The Harbinger: Fact or Fiction?

Rate this book
In The Fact or Fiction? author David James exhaustively documents and responds to the serious flaws found throughout the New York Times best-seller from Charisma Media, The Harbinger. Messianic rabbi Jonathan Cahn believes he has discovered an "ancient mystery" in that "explains everything from 9/11 to the collapse of the global economy." As Cahn states at the beginning of his book "What you are about to read is presented in the form of a story, but what is contained within the story is real." Many have accepted Cahn's message as being genuinely from God. However, David James has clearly demonstrated that The Harbinger falls far short of meeting the biblical requirements for such a message from God, being based on the mishandling of Scripture, faulty theology, misleading statements, the selective use of historical facts and unsupported speculation. David James is co-founder and Executive Director of The Alliance for Biblical Integrity.

Good book and well written. This critique of the original book, The Harbinger by Jonathan Cahn, does not attempt to distinguish motive which is refreshing. David James presents his case for the use of the proper biblical hermeneutic taking into consideration, grammar, history and context. He could have focused a little more on Christology and how that needs to be the center of any biblical hermeneutic which would have sealed the case in my mind. Cahn, in his attempt to stir up repentance in the US, basically does the same thing that David Wilkerson did a decade ago with his Racing Toward Judgement Racing Toward Judgment by David Wilkerson . One can't stir up genuine repentance and turning to the Lord Jesus Christ for salvation with attempted prophesies that never materialize or that are built on faulty premises. Just proves that those who attempt that are 'false prophets'. You can't sensationalize faith in the Lord Jesus Christ .... nor is it a fad of some type. It is a life long commitment to a person forever!!!

I was going to buy 'The Harbinger', but bought this instead, and I am so glad I did. Mr. James sets out a clear and easily understood answer to many of the assertions put forth in that book. If you have read 'The Harbinger' this would be a great follow-up, and if you haven't yet, read this one first.

Whew…saved me from deception! I do believe the United States has turned away from God and, as with all who turn from God, there will be consequences, but The Harbinger appears to be historical fiction with a big emphasis on fiction, and this book spelled out the difference between the history and the fiction. Adding historical facts and information that Jonathan Cahn either left out or twisted to create his amazing story. I highly recommend everyone who read The Harbinger to also read THIS book!

Fantastically researched and presented

Thank you so much for opening our minds to the fraudulent content of The Harbinger. When I bought that book I was extremely interested in your book and thought I should check it out. I'm so glad that I did because my eyes were opened to the truth.

ok, I read the harbinger a couple of years ago. I read it as the fiction book that it is. at the time of my reading of it, I commented to several people that it was one of the most laboriously dialogued books I have ever read. redundant and downright annoying. that being said, I took it as an ambitious fiction book and nothing more. I have never recommended the book to anyone. that being said, this critique of the harbinger was almost as laborious as the actual book. the author grasps for straws throughout using words like presumably or it appears so or we must deduce. A LOT of speculation. the only reason I gave it two stars instead of one is basically one chapter that pointed out that the author of the harbinger skews salvation. in my opinion, it is the only valid argument in this entire book. don't waste your time on this book or the harbinger.

A very good warning against twisting the Scriptures to make it say what we want to hear, even if it's something we need to hear. A good basic manual on hermeneutics. I would recommend it to everyone.
