When the victims of a hideous 'blood farm' are found dead in an abandoned building, Detective Mark Gregory is reminded of a traumatic incident from his past. Unfortunately for him, the medical examiner assigned to help with the case is Abby Hart, a woman who has secrets of her own.
As Abby and Mark investigate the latest deaths, they discover a sinister, seemingly empty church in the heart of the city. A mysterious cult is gathering, determined to raise the father of the vampire race, who was supposed to have been killed many years ago. Soon, Abby is drawn into the heart of the cult, which is when she realizes that rather than trying to stop them, she might actually want to help...

Just when I thought I'd had enough of vampires to last me a lifetime, I read this. And now, I'll have to read more of the series. Well-written, with plenty of mystery and suspense.
This is the 2nd Abby Hart Book that I’ve read, but I guess it’s the 4th in the Series. Abby is a ME for NYPD. She and a police detectives get assigned to a mass murder scene that nether of them are prepared for. To Abby it appears to be a blood farm. (Blood Farming, taking hundreds off the streets of NYC and using them as blood banks. The people they are taking are considered “dispossessed vagrants”, druggies, mentally ill, homeless, men and women who work in prostitution. People that no one sees or care about. No family ties, no community ties. Individuals/outcasts that the general population knows about, but they don’t care what happens too these “street people”.) To the police detective it is a mystery that he has no idea what to do about, or even how to start such a massive investigation. No witnesses, no survivors, and no suspects. As they start to investigate they both run into some pretty odd “people” who want them to stop their investigation. Abby discoverers something/someone has been watching her for many, many, many years. “The Disgrace” sends one of his henchmen named Absalom to try and get Abby under control, she’s to involved with the human race, and she leaves her vampire side hidden. They run into an Ancient race called The Strix. There is enough information on the characters backstory that this can be read as a stand-alone novel.
Another amazing book by the incredible author that is Amy cross, she writes in a way that keeps you reading, you get drawn into boom.and learn a lot from each character as you come across them, this is the first book in it Abbey heart series. Following the Dark Season books, this story brings Abby Hart once more into a starring role.
Trying to live in the human world, while dealing with her past, Abby is now a pathologist who is looking into a series of gruesome murders...
Enter Mark the detective...
I do like this author's writing style, which easy flow of alternating first person narrative, combined with an intriguing plot, makes for a compelling read.
Overall, a good story with a great mix of fantasy and reality.
Another enjoyable well written story from a consistently good author. I love the air of mystery attached to the heroine's background which I'm sure will give scope for further adventures. If you want a light easy read vampire book then head for this story.
