When Catherine Breaux sets out to find her brother's killer and bring him to justice, getting set upon by bandits along the Natchez Trace is not in her plans. Yet, when all seems lost, a mysterious night-riding stranger comes pounding out of the night to scatter the outlaws.
Wealthy planter, Jase St. Claire's timely appearance is a mixed blessing. He may have saved Catherine from ravishment at the hands of the outlaws. . . but who will save her from him?
Upon discovering that the hotheaded young lady is set upon seeing the infamous renegade, the Black Lion hanged for murders being perpetrated along the deserted wilderness highway, Jase decides she will be safer as a guest at his plantation. Especially, since he is the man she is seeking.
Keeping Catherine out of trouble, however, proves harder than he imagined; keeping his hands off her is impossible, even while he tries to catch a killer.
I liked Jase and Catherine's story because there was alot of passion on both sides, not just in love but for what they believed in. Everyone makes mistakes and is entitled to a second chance but there are those too, that are beyond redemption. I'm glad to see she saw the difference. There was a lot of action in the story and I could hardly wait to reopen my kindle to see what would happen next. I loved how strong Catherine was and the fact she didn't let Jase intimidate her. In fact, even at his angriest, she went toe to toe with him. Ms. McClafferty has a real winner with this one.
Catherine & Jase St. Claire begin their rocky journey to love when she goes looking for the Black Lion, whom she thinks killed her brother. As it turns out she doesn't really know much about this person nor whether he actually killed her brother. As the story plays out Catherine winds up being engaged to the person portraying himself to be the Black Lion, all the while trying to blame various criminal activities in Jase. Good story.
Jase or Jason who was the Black Lion is no longer. Catherine is a force to be reckoned with. The lives of the men in her life have had sorrowful young lives. The lives of Americans & Indians during that time of our history was truly horrific. You see a part of that in this story.
This book was absolutely fabulous! The story kept at a fast pace with an interesting premise, the love story was delightful, and the bad guy was truly reprehensible.
"Forbidden Flame" is absolutely one of the most interesting romance books I have read. Good character development, good flow, and occurrences to peek your interest. This is a definite keeper.
