「無頼派」「新戯作派」の破滅型作家を代表する昭和初期の小説家、太宰治の短編小説。初出は「改造」［1947（昭和22）年］。魂が抜けたように卑屈で頻繁に愛人の元へ出かけ、革命について説く、元ジャーナリストを夫に持つ「私」の繊細な心情が語られている作品。その豊かな作品世界は、短編ながら戦後の太宰を理解する上で示唆に富む。
