Horrible Things: 101 Sick Ideas Never Seen on TV

Rate this book
WARNING: This is a book of sick and twisted humor. It's offensive and not for the squeamish or the faint of heart. If you are a sensitive person or easily offended, this is not the book for you.

"Horrible Things" is a nauseatingly clever collection of 101 cartoon inventions never meant for TV. Famed cartoonist Sam Gross refers to these cartoons as "Insane" but we like to think of them as sick and twisted. There are early signs of controversy with this title.

Examples of these mad inventions include Salad on a Stick, Giant Hairy Fruit and the Edible Goiter. The book is intended for adults with a juvenile sense of humor and juveniles with an adult sense of humor.

Readers of Mad and Cracked Magazine will surely enjoy this disturbingly witty book.

Firstly, thanks to Jerry Z for sending me a copy of his book for me to review. Unfortunately, I have to admit that I really didn't like it! In fact, I would go as far as to say some of it was just downright offensive - not even vaguely funny. I tried to get into the spirit of the book (obviously the title speaks for itself) but some of the things just made me feel really uneasy, including multiple references to encouraging suicide, trivialising suicide bombings, and even a "joke" about dead babies. All I can say is, this book really wasn't for me, and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone unless you have a really sick sense of humour. Sorry Jerry!

I entered to win an advanced reader copy of Horrible Things: 101 Sick Ideas Never Seen on TV through Goodreads.com and I will definitely be passing this book along to some of my friends who share my twisted sense of humor. I think I might buy a few copies as gag gifts for Birthdays and Christmas this year too. It reminded me of an adult version of the Garbage Pail Kids that I read when I was a kid.

My favorite... The Hooter Scooter!

This book is not meant to be taken too seriously, so leaf through and enjoy the silliness!

I received this book free as part of Goodreads First Reads. While the title gives an idea of what is inside the actual book is somewhat difficult to look at. Simplistic black and white drawings of the ideas is a blessing. Some of the "ideas" are rather disturbing and just not funny in the society we live in. Others are funny. Not something I would recommend to friends.

I received this book as part of a Goodreads giveaway. I almost wish I had not won it. I have a dry and expansive sense of humor, but this book goes beyond that. I would not recommend this book to anyone, unless you like toilet humor, sick humor, and downright crude humor. There is not one thing in this book that made me laugh.

I would give this book 2.5

I received this book free as part of Goodreads First Reads. The book consists of crude black and white drawings with labels and descriptions. Some of them were interesting and somewhat funny, however many of them were not.

Individuals who like the raunchy frat-boy humour would probably enjoy this book.

I received this book as a good reads giveaway.

A few of the ideas were funny, might even have bought one or two myself hahahah.
To be honest though this is a book I would leave in the downstairs toilet for guests to read.

A Beavis and Butthead style of book, when "reading" it you can almost hear the author sitting there sniggering (uh...huuh huh huh). My favourite has to the Hooter Scooter! this did produce a B&B like snarful from me.

I received a free copy of this book through Goodreads First Reads Giveaway. This book is definitely meant for someone with a warped sense of humor, which is not me. However...my husband loved it! If you like shows like Tosh.0 or Family Guy, then you will probably love this book!

Awful

I started reading this because I thought it'd be funny. It was so disgusting, I chose not to finish it. I wish I could burn the images from my brain. My advice: skip this one. There's nothing funny here.

most funny, a wonderful gift book for the right person -- a book of one panel cartoons of crazy inventions, less sick than offbeat, odd and eccentric (although some, yes, are genuinely sick).

Entertaining. Great little book for the coffee table for guests to read. Good conversation starter. Would make a great gift for anyone with a good sense of humor.

I found a few things funny, especially the hilter lawn ornament, and the aunt fanny doll.
