Jonathan Harker, a young English lawyer, is traveling to Castle Dracula in order to finalize a real estate transaction. He has been personally requested by Count Dracula. What Jonathan doesn’t realize is that Dracula’s interests do not lie with him, but with his beautiful fiancée, Mina.As soon as he saw her face, Dracula knew the ritual was a success. After all these long years, his love has returned to him. However, many things (such as Van Helsing and Jonathan Harker) stand in the way of their happiness. Sure, he could kill them all and take what he wants. However, his greatest desire is not to possess Mina, but to love her and have her return his love. Therefore, Dracula’s fate and the fate of those closest to her lie in Mina’s hands. She has dreamed of him all her life. But what will she do when she learns her dark prince is real? What will happen when she knows him, not as a dream, but in the flesh? This book contains scenes of graphic violence and sex that may be offensive to some readers. This is NOT a romance novel, although there is a romance involved. In the Flesh is Erotic Horror.
I've read their Red riding hood retelling before and bought the collection of Dracula and Frankenstein retellings. It took a long time for me to really enjoy the book as for the most of it I tought it would be closer to a 3 stars. But by the end I really came to like the characters a lot. But not a complete 4 star read. More so 3.75 stars. But looking forward to the Frankenstein one as it was the one I was most excited about
I’m a sucker for a retelling, so when I saw this on KU I snagged it up. This is a Dracula re-telling, and I got sucked (pun intended) right in. Dracula has been waiting for the reincarnation of his beloved wife, and after 400 years he FINALLY sees her in the newspaper. This is a sweeter more sensitive Draky as he LURVES his Mina. I didn’t find it scary or overly kinky-erotic, but there’s plenty of steamy sexy-time and action to entertain.
So, why only 3 stars? The story is told by reading journal entries from 5 different people. At times, I had to remember what that particular character was doing last I saw them, which messed with my flow. I also didn’t really care what a couple of those characters were up to. My main grump was the ending. It ends very open-ended… like I would expect a book 2, but there isn’t one, so I’m assuming this is a 1-and-done, and it just didn’t feel complete.
Dracula had been separated from his love and soulmate, Mina, for centuries. He has finally located her again and sets out to reclaim her. Mina recalls nothing of her previous life with Dracula, although she has erotic dreams of a stranger. When they meet again, Mina begins to recall her previous life with Dracula. The tale is intriguing and I truly enjoyed it.....I just hoped I'd get more of the future at the end.
I didn't like that the POV jumped from person to person throughout the entire book. I found it a little harder to keep up with each person each time it switched back to them. I had to remember the last thing they were writing about so I could understand what was going on at that point.
There were a few grammatical errors but nothing major and not too frequent.
Aside from those things, I enjoyed the book. I'm not a historical story person at all. I normally won't even consider reading a book if it's historical. This didn't come across too much like a historical other than some of the verbiage that was used. I'm also not a huge paranormal fan. I have a few authors that I adore and will read their PNR but rarely will I read from a new to me author. It was done well. The central story was definitely the romance, the feelings of devotion and love, and then it was the Dracula "horror" story after that. It isn't overly gory either. It was well balanced.
I will say that I wouldn't consider it "erotica". While the sex scenes were definitely hot and not uncommon, it just didn't come across as an erotica book.
For those who read erotica, it really wasn't that. It was more of a romance retelling of Dracula, which was perfectly fine (I just don't think it should be labeled erotica). For those of us who root for Dracula and Mina, I think you will happy with this author's re-telling. However, I think there should have been more at the end, we don't get to see what happens in the future and that took away from the proceeding story we just read. That is also the reason why this story has 3.5 stars instead of 4 or 4.5 stars.
I'm still looking for a Dracula retelling that doesn't leave me wishing there was something more.
I absolutely loved this spin on Dracula. This story had all of the elements we are familiar with concerning Dracula: werewolves, Gypsies, silver bullets, even Van Helsing was a major character. The love between Dracula and Mina seemed to jump off the pages. The surprise ending was great. I wish there would have been an epilogue or second installment. Yes, there are gruesome elements, but one would expect that with this subject and they were fantastic in my opinion.
The author did not lie when she said this was not a romantic retelling of Dracula. There are dark, brutal and savage displays, so not for the conservative, vanilla romantic readers. Although I will say that the love between Mina and Dracula is still conveyed quite beautifully. I enjoyed it but I think some will find this too graphic
An interesting retelling. I was a little disappointed in this one. It had some interesting ideas, it was clever in places, quite erotic, a little frightening at times, all pluses. But, I feel like the end was a little rushed and the eroticism seemed to taper off. Not bad. Worth checking out if you are interested in erotic horror and Dracula retellings.
Here is the telling of Dracula and his beloved mean and all that before And after he becomes a vampire and although it's the same in some ways in the end it's completely different I love the retelling better than their your original
A well written rendition of a classic story this is an exciting read that is both entertaining and fascinating. The writing is very well done and really pulls you in.
I really enjoyed this book. It’s sexy as fuck. It’s dangerous and just on the right side of horror. Dracula was funny and sassy, I loved a certain threat he made to Johnathan. Mina is perfect and just how I wanted her to be and the end is great. I’d love to see a sequel to this as in many way its open ended and you know what they say about Dracula... he always comes back. Definitely on my reread list and I might get the paperback, that’s how much I like it.
"The loneliness of centuries was in his kiss and a passion hotter than any flames burned in his eyes."
First of all, I love vampire lore. I studied it, made an elaborate and important paper on it. On the evolution of the vampire, from a monster, from the anti-hero to a tormented hero, a modern, romanticized version of said monster. I love Bram Stoker's Dracula, the one this book was loosely based on. Though, it's more based on Francis Ford Coppola's Dracula movie.
Second, this has to be one of the hottest books I have read in a good while. It has quite a few hot and detailed scenes. Pure, amazing smut. Not at all disgusting and repulsive.
You don't have to have read the classical Dracula to read this one. As I said, it's very very loosely based on it. It has the characters and a little bit of the plot Stoker came up with. But that's it. The rest belongs to T.K. Hardin. And she owns it. I applaud the way she transformed the characters.
The original Dracula is one of the very first anti-heroes in literature. The other one is Heathcliff from Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte. So, imagine my surprise - a very pleasant one, I have to add - when this version of Dracula is anything but. It's more like the modern version of the vampire concept. More human. It has feelings. It is tormented. It loves. And, more importantly, it is a hero.
And it sold its soul for the woman he loves, to have her again. I absolutely fell madly in love with this Draky. He's amazing. He loves Mina deeply, had for centuries and would do absolutely anything for her. And he does.
4 1/2 - 5 stars. It has emotion in it, it has some pretty scary scenes too, detailed and gruesome but nothing one can't handle. The sex scenes are unbelievably hot - four-somes, voyeurism, you name it. I swooned and melted and fanned myself.
I highly recommend it. For me, it will be a sure reread.
Blurb: Can death stop true love? Fans of Bram Stoker's Dracula and the True Blood series really enjoy Dracula: In the Flesh.
Jonathan Harker travels to Transylvania to meet with a mysterious client, Count Dracula. Dracula's interest is not in the business that Jonathan Harker believes, but rather in Harker's fiancée Mina, the reincarnation of the wife Dracula gave his soul to be reunited with. Can Dracula win her love for a second time? Or, will his curse keep them apart forever?

I liked this way more than the original Dracula. It's very entertaining. The author takes the original tale changes a few details and adds a little sex, gore and humor. In my opinion, it isn't a story to be taken seriously. I found it fun and different. 3.8 stars
I absolutely love this version of Dracula! This book is now my go-to book when I have a hankering for some Dracula goodness. The writing is powerful, the tale emotional and the ending is sublime. The author captured my heart with this tale.
This would have been a better book had she stuck closer to the ending in Bram stokers "dracula". Having a child thrown in randomly and Dracula's head grow back like a starfish were poor choices to put in the ending.
