A SENSE OF FOREBODING HAS DEEPENED ACROSS OUR LAND … Spiritually, socially, politically, economically, the fierce consequences of our choices as a nation whirl around us and threaten us with catastrophe. The storm clouds gather; the thunder rumbles; the darkness descends. While the tempest approaches, many are asleep. Others sense danger in the air but are uncertain of its source and scope. Now a new book, The Burden, has appeared in the hope of rousing the sleepers and clarifying the danger.Best-selling author Paul Thigpen insists that we are seeing today a repetition of the historical pattern so vividly presented in biblical prophecy, an echo of events that took place long ago. God’s ultimate response to sinful nations is merciful but terrifying chastisement. Our recent history invites, perhaps demands, such chastisement. If we turn from our evil ways, we have hope of avoiding disaster. But the burning question Will we turn? What they’re saying about The Burden …“An astonishing work … of relentless spiritual force and prophetic potency …”Joseph Pearce, Writer-in-Residence, Thomas More College“A strange and marvelous book of poetic prophecy for our perilous times …”Fr. Dwight Longenecker, author of The Gargoyle Code“A brilliant work — bold, daring and fabulously engaging …”Matthew Pinto, Coeditor, The Amazing Grace Series“It will sober the foolish and bring tears to the wise …”Al Kresta, President and CEO of Ave Maria Communications“Searing and luminescent …”Brian J. Paul Thigpen, Ph.D., is the editor of TAN Books. An award-winning journalist and best-selling author, he has published forty-two books. His work has been translated into twelve languages and circulated worldwide.
This small book of prophetic poetry is for the most part beautifully written, with great resonance with, and allusions to, Biblical prophecy throughout. An excellent feature is a table of Biblical allusions afterwards, to allow the reader to explore Thigpen's Biblical resonances in greater depth and detail.
It may be hard to read (emotionally), for someone whose heart is similarly "burdened." In particular, for one who sees the danger, and sees so many loved ones and innocents blithely blundering into it--indeed, choosing it--it can be quite painful at times.
It is perhaps comforting, to know one is not the only one so "burdened." But that comfort comes only after the discomfort. Then again, I doubt Jeremiah was anybody's favorite party guest, either. . .
This book proceeds in the style of the Old Testament prophets. It seemed as if it were inspired by the Holy Spirit to awaken in us our goal of Heaven. I was especially taken in at the first chapter where God seems to be warning us of the evil behind the massacre of the unborn.
Excellent read. All people should heed the warning. Learn the truth. God is real. Seek him. Scripture is weaved skillfully as the author tells the reader the truth with a passionate fervor that time is running out. Mercy is there. Arms open wide. Today is the day of salvation. Seek God now while he still can be found.
I read this book in one setting, I could not put it down. It held my attention and so easy to understand. It sure leaves one to take a good look at where they are in their life. I would highly recommend this book.
This is such a profound work of beauty and everyone needs to prayerfully study it and ask the Lord for understanding. I can't imagine anyone reading it and not being spiritually moved.
