Little Billy is the light of Polly's life -- it's for her son's sake that she puts up with an unkind mother-in-law and an isolated farm. Then Billy is knocked down by a car, his father killed attempting to save his life, and Polly, cast off by her husband's family, is left with a child who may never walk or talk again. Polly's own family, the Kershaws, provide all the support they can, but they are unable to outmanoeuvre the malicious Dr Browning-Baker , who is determined to have Billy taken away from his mother, depriving him of the exercises and stimulation that are his only hope. Forced to flee to the Fylde coast, Polly and Billy find that their future may lie with another damaged family -- an ex-Army captain whose First World War marriage was a terrible mistake, and his daughter, who has never recovered from the hostility of the mother she loves. But danger threatens their fragile happiness...

I enjoyed the first book in this series-Our Lizzie- but this was even better and towards the end I was so gripped, I lost all awareness of time and ended up having a lot less sleep than usual in order to finish it.
Another fab read about Polly Kershaw this time from tears and sadness to tears of happiness Polly had a good if not exciting marriage to Eddie but in Richard she has found fulfillment 5 STARS now to read our Eva .
Another gripping book from Anna Jacobs . She always creates such wonderful characters . Polly's life is changed forever when her husband is killed , trying to stop their toddler son Billy from being run over . The little boy suffers traumatic head injuries . Her inlaws wash their hands of her and soon Polly and Billy are forced to move away to a small village on the Lancashire coast . Meanwhile Richard Mercer has come home at the end of the First World War to realize that his hasty marriage to Florence has been a huge mistake. She cares about nothing but money , not even their daughter Connie who is lame after an accident . He has been left a house at the coast and would like to live their with Connie . First however he must do something about his grasping wife .
I'm glad Polly had the courage and determination to keep her little boy it,was sad she lost her husband but thankfully the other doctor was there to help plus her family. The captain and his daughter were lovely but his wife and cousin weren't what an awful pair they made, loved this story happiness in the end. This author deserves a 10star 🌟rating.
An excellent sequel to "Our Lizzie" which I read earlier in the year. I thoroughly enjoy Anna Jacobs books. Whilst they deal with difficult topics, they are written in such a way that reading her books is a "break" from my heavier (often non-fiction) reading. If you have not enjoyed any of her books before, I recommend her.
Another awesome book from Anna jacobs. I love her series they give so much entertainment. I can’t turn the pages fast enough and I feel like I am living in the series. Onto the next one.
Book 2 of the Kershaw sisters' series is the story of Polly who for her son's sake that she puts up with an unkind mother-in-law and an isolated farm. Then her son is knocked down by a car, his father killed attempting to save his life, and Polly, cast off by her husband's family, is left with a child who may never walk or talk again. Polly's own family, the Kershaw's, provide all the support they can, but they are unable to outmanoeuvre the malicious Dr Browning-Baker, who is determined to have Billy taken away from his mother, depriving him of the exercises and stimulation that are his only hope. Forced to flee to the Fylde coast, Polly and Billy find that their future may lie with another damaged family - an ex-Army captain whose First World War marriage was a terrible mistake, and his daughter, who has never recovered from the hostility of the mother she loves. I enjoyed this even more than Our Lizzie. I liked how Polly emerged from her own dire situation, remaining lovingly committed to her son which is not always the case and found hope for her and her son.
