The girl floating in the water at the end of Duval Street had a life full of secrets, one of which caused someone to kill her. Dead women can't talk. But to vacationing Professor of Forensic Psychology Rex Jamison, it’s just a matter of figuring out how the dead are going to tell you what they want you to know. Newly promoted to Detective, David Sharkey entices Rex to team up with him to solve his first murder case. Secrets, lies, jealously, and greed will soon take center stage and everyone becomes a suspect. When another victim appears, the town’s people are sent into a tail spin and the summer heat is turned up on Sharkey and Rex to end the terror now.
Why Aborted: the writing felt amateurish and made worse by the awful narrator who didn't bother to pause between sentences, was wooden and read the book as if it wasn't a story with dialogue and people in it but a shopping list.
A fatal mistake for an audiobook author is one that is read by the author. It looks like this was read by a family member, which is just as fatal. It was HORRIBLE. I think it might have been a decent book, though a bit amateurish. Looking forward, I see that all the books are read by the same Dan Hilleren so the chances of this getting better are very low. I think it could be a good series though I will likely never find out.
I never read this author before. I was captivated from the very beginning. The style, characters, and flow was excellent. I have to read her next book.
I found this first book of the Key West mystery series by Elizabeth Hilleran very exciting. it was fast moving and had many twists and turns. I loved the setting. The descriptions of Key West were perfect. I recommend this great book to all who like cozy mysteries with a good storyline in a beautiful setting.
This book reads like a term paper in school without contractions. Spoken language isn't perfect so this book has no personally in the speech patterns. Nice mystery but hard to read.
I really liked the story line and the character development. The variety of characters and their interpersonal relationships were compelling. Cannot wait to dive into book 3
