It isn’t the chair rocking by itself that sends the young family fleeing in the middle of the night. It’s when it stops rocking and all hell breaks loose. This family needs help. Enter PEEPs (Paranormal Entity Exposure Partners) armed with the latest hi-tech gear and the ghost communication abilities of Mia Cooper. But this isn’t a normal case. Some of the ghosts aren’t playing fair. Some of them are armed. Mia’s attention is divided between this case and her friend Sabine, who has gone missing during an out of body walkabout. Can she pull it all together in time to save Sabine from a narcissistic collector and help PEEPs to survive the destructive forces that have come to play via their ghostly attachments? Ghostly Attachments is the sequel to the popular paranormal adventure The Hauntings of Cold Creek Hollow.
My idea of a great vacation is a porch swing, view of the water and a pile of books to read. Once upon a time… I wonder if those words spoken to, or read for the first time, were the catalyst for the spark that lit the fire within us. To write and tell a story the way each of us does is a gift and a responsibility. We sometimes toil hours with an idea, or even just one sentence, not knowing if anyone beyond us will ever read our words. We do it for love. The love of bringing to light the world that resides inside our heads. It does not matter if we have a happy ending or a soulful gasp. What matters is that we put these thoughts on paper. So keep writing my friends. Keep taking us to the secret corners of your mind. Be brave. Tempt fate and above all enjoy.
This series is just ridiculous in that it is unbelievably implausible, throws all but the supernatural kitchen sink at you, has poor dialogue, and tends to not really explore the interpersonal issues it purports to explore (e.g. central couple breaks up with no warning and flimsy post-hoc excuses), but yet is engaging. This book was chockful of ghosts and paranormal stuff. Seriously, we had not one, not two, but 6 separate ghosts running around -- some just there for the heck of it and having nothing per se to do with the main story line -- a possessed stuffed toy (in the least scary stuffed animal experience ever), haunted rocking chairs, and some possession. I think that the overkill actually is meant to be entertaining and I find it really is. Even with dueling ghosts that shoot real bullets (see the kitchen sink reference above), ludicrous in this context (!), I found myself engaged with this story and series. I am not sure how Aaron is doing it, but I am unfortunately hooked. I am onto book three even though my literary fibers are screaming I shouldn't like this.
I’m still undecided on this series. Like The Hauntings of Cold Creek Hollow, I really liked the storyline of Ghostly Attachments, but I really dislike most of the characters.
I particularly struggle with the inconsistencies in their interactions. I can only assume that a lot happens “off-screen.” In the book, we read that Burt ensures that Mia’s usually empty refrigerator and cupboards are stocked with food, does the cooking, always makes the coffee, and is happy to embrace Mia’s salt rituals and yet Mia becomes angry because “it seemed more and more that the drudgery aspect of their shared coupledom fell to her..." Really?????
I have moved on to Sand Trap because I do really like the ghostly storylines; but, unless the character interactions improve a LOT, I will finish there.
Another solid story from Alexie Aaron. I think all in all the two plots were very well juggled with a lot of solid ideas and good writing. Dolls are always creepy (always) and this one was no exception. As a reader, I really liked granny. I liked how the PEEPs took care of her too. I also liked how OOBing became a thing and how some of the characters got better at stuff. I would really like to see more power growth for Mia.
That said, there were a few things that wasn't great. If you read my review of the first in the series you already know I am not a fan of "manufactured" love triangles. This time there isn't just one attempt, but ultimately two attempts. Tied with the abrupt change in behavior of a key player and this makes it very annoying. It is sad really when authors feel they can't generate enough conflict externally that they have to invent conflict with "out of character" behavior. Sure, maybe he is possessed by whatever possessed Mike during the first book. But Mia has been able to see possessed people in the past.
A great addition to the series. Grabbed me right from page 1 until the last word. Loved the ending and am looking forward to what happens next. As with the 1st book I really Loved Murphy, the ghost. If I could I would definitely rate this book a 10+. So pleased to discover there are many more books in this series. Can't wait to read every one. Fantastic, fabulous, riveting, entertaining, enjoyable series.
I do enjoy reading about the adventures of Murphy, my favorite axe man and Mia who has a special gift. She can see and hear ghosts. Mia also helps out the ghost hunters, PEEPS, on occasion. Never boring!
I wanted to like this book... I liked the story of the haunted items that ended up together and triggered a haunting. But everything is so easy for the main character, Mia. Whatever she wants to do, she's able to do better than anyone else without much of an effort or struggle. Consequently, things started to get a little ridiculous as she gains bizarre abilities at the speed of light. And like the first book, the personalities of all the characters give the reader whiplash as they change direction without warning.
This is an interesting series but it did drag for me in places and I found myself picking up other books to reading in between this one. I did enjoy the story line but is not action packed and there is only so many haunted houses that you can read about with evil and not so evil ghosts inside before I lose interest but if you enjoy ghost stories with a twist then give this series a go. I loved Murphy's character the most and I enjoyed reading about his interactions with the main character who felt something for him regardless of the fact that he was a spirit and not flesh and blood
Loved it - this was book two in the series and was yet another good paranormal romp with "PEEPs". I must try hard not to read all the books in the series one after the other, but I want to save some for my holidays!
Highly recommended page turner and very enjoyable.
I enjoyed this book so much that I bought the audiobook, which I also loved!
Forgot to add this to my currently reading shelf until I was nearly done with it. This seems to be a situation of a series that is at it's best in the first book. This book was so unbelievably ridiculous and outlandish that it made it hard for me to enjoy. Such a shame too, the author was onto something good with the first book.
Fantastic sequel to a great book. I love Mia and all the other wonderful characters the author has created. The story moves very well and keeps you flying through the pages as long as your eyes will last.
Really enjoyed reading this book will read the next one soon. I love the ghosts and the way the characters see them and try to correct injustice so the ghosts can move on
I had read some mixed reviews on this series, and am glad that I paid no mind to any of them. To me this is well written with interesting characters, and plenty of suspense / adventure that pulls you quickly through the story.
some men can't handle strong women. some men want to control women. add ghosts, vengeful spirits, haunted objects, powerful entities, stir well and, voila, you have a fine tale of chaos. Re read in june, 2017. Love these stories. Great characters, good plots, lots more f action, terror.
3.5 stars. I did enjoy this story, but felt a bit bored by the side story of Sabine. I found myself hanging for it to get back to the PEEPS team to see what was happening with the haunting. I love that Murphy seems to be a staying character, and can't wait to see what the next story holds.
