Talking, Following Directions, And Disruptions In Class: Three Learning Stories For School

Rate this book
A compilation of three Little Learning Books by Lorin Neikirk, these stories are designed to improve behaviors in the classroom. With repeated exposure to the stories, kids internalize the messages, building self-discipline and motivation. Much thought has gone into each sentence and picture, and the wording is specific and logical to a child's mind. Very descriptive of each point, even very young children can "read" the pictures and get the message. Most importantly, students understand their own benefits from appropriate talking, following directions, and not being disruptive in class. When a child sees the benefit to him/her self, they repeat the behavior and it becomes habitual, positive behavior, creates an environment conducive to not only learning, but teaching as well.

I compiled this book because I felt that it made sense to have "set" of the of stories that all worked together. There are several, and when I originally published them, teachers never really bought just one. There were three that teachers gravitated to, usually buying two out of the three. It made sense to me to put together a set of all three at a price that would have been less than the cost of two. Since then, this book is the one that most educators like best. The message is consistent, but that's not really the biggest pull... I think the benefit is really that the logic is consistent, and when the kids finish the book they are already so on board, it's a no-brainer. The reasoning I use is different from page one anyway... I use an intrinsic reasoning method that a lot of teachers and parents either don't think to use or don't have the time to consider. So already the kiddos understand why following directions, listening, keeping quiet, etc., are good ideas. but the gentle repetition of that intrinsic reinforcement of the model is really pretty priceless when you think about it! Lol!

Anyway, this is the "what did you think?" section and of course I like this book! I wrote it! But I thought I would give some reasons why I like it, why Ii put this particularset together, and why it works the way it does.

That makes sense, right?!
