A book with lasting power that thoughtfully discusses "Man's vital but alienated relationship to his animal self." I still talk about parts of this book on my tours, like the remarkable life-cycle of a Cattle Tick and the way some humans, at this time of year, are oblivious to weather and atmospheric conditions. In winter, many of us Northern Latitude types increase our activity level to a fevered pitch, instead of resting (hibernating), the way animals do at this time of year. Consequently, each year we have a huge flu season and die-off in January.

One of the very important books I read as a young adult. Human behavior is shown in the mirror of other species. Full of insights.
