* Highlander’s Runaway Bride is a steamy Scottish Medieval Historical romance novel of 60,000 words (around 300 pages) written by Maddie MacKenna and published by Cobalt Fairy.
No cheating, no cliffhangers, lots of steam and a happy ending.
Liked: Maddie is a new author to me, but I’ll definitely be checking out her back catalog! I love a fake relationship, bonus being one with a sexy scot! I liked how this had the added mystery of who was behind the attacks, and especially how Evan backed Delilah all the way!
Disliked: It usually is my gripe with historical romances, but it’s a virgin heroine and experienced hero again.
OM/OW: No OW or OM involved.

Great story of a Laird wanting peace for his clan now that his father died, so he goes to the enemy to ask for peace but not sure he will grant peace between the two clans. But in the end he was refused so he asked the run a way bride if she would fake engagement, which she reluctantly agrees to the temporary engagement. But the two clans had a common enemy, that turned out to be a trusted friend. The culprit was discovered to late that one Laird died before the traitor could be stopped. It did bring the other clans (tribes) together. The fake engagement became real because the couple fell in love and got their happily ever after.
Laird Evan is tired of the attacks from his enemy Laird Hudson and has a plan to end it. Propose a false betrothal with the eldest daughter Delilah and sign a peace agreement. Delilah is known as the runaway bride because she ran away on her wedding day and her sister Dakota had to marry the groom in her stead. Evan and Delilah have a history together in the their youth and each had a secret crush on the other then. Now, as adults and enemies they must come together for peace and find out who is causing the attacks between their clans. I didn’t like Delilah at first but she grew on me quickly. Great story and characters.
Delilah was the runaway bride that her father is now trying to marry off to strengthen the clan's holding but everyone is afraid to take a chance. Then Evan one of her father's enemies son's arrive to try to make peace. He is the new Laird of his clan and will do anything for peace even marry Delilah. The two were friends in the youth and still have some feelings for each other that brings them to make a pact. False betrothal and get the peace and split later. The world has other plans for the two amid attacks and treachery around then. Great story Ms. MacKenna.
This has been a enjoyable series to read, being a lover of historical romance that's filled with action, suspense, mystery, betrayal, and of course loves conquers all make for a great plot. So again this have been a great series with well written characters and plot that holds you captive from beginning to end, so I hope this is not the end of this series there's Daisy, Dominic, and Elise who's just waiting for their story to be told 😇😇 just saying . Again enjoyed Evan and Delilah story it truly is a great read !!!
In the typical Scottish fashion this book is about the fighting between the different clans but Another main theme is love That grows. The characters were well written and you got where you like them through the story well some of them you didn't.. The mystery of who was really instigating the problem was 1 that was that 1st hard to figure out but as the story progressed it became easier. I fully enjoyed the story As I have other books that I have read by this author.
Anyone who loves romance would love to read this book. It's true the Clans of Scotland had a lot of wars between them selves. Marriage was often a solution to peace between them, but how many really fell in love? It's amazing how a person pride gets in the way of saying what they really want from another. The main characters were able to finally tell each other their true feelings.
It was fairly obvious from the beginning of the story that Delilah and Evan had feelings for each other that they wouldn't admit, even to themselves. Agreeing to a fake betrothal to achieve peace between the clans seemed like a good idea, they thought. Except when they realized the feelings they had were no longer fake. I enjoyed the way their relationship evolved and their loyalty, especially Evan's to Delilah's clan.
I liked it well enough but didn’t care for Delilah in the first book so I entered this book with preconceived opinions about her. And I couldn’t love her in this story either. Even though the premise of the book was a good story and the author was inconsistent with a major theme and even the mystery plot. I can’t explain further without giving away the story.
Excellent book by Maddie MacKenna! She brings such life into each of her characters. There are triumphs, tragedies, strength of family, and love.
A story of hope for a lairds clan. To bring an alliance of forces, for hope and prosperity for all. Mix in a betrothed to add more to clan mistrusts - why not!
Who would have thought when Delilah and Evan antagonized each other when they were younger that it would turn out to be love as they grew older. This story grabbed me from the beginning as soon as they met. There are twists and turns a plenty to find out who is causing all the clan troubles. Another wonderful story by this wonderful author!
Evan and Delilia’s story tells of clan attacks, feuds and distrust between their two clans and how they try to end the violence. With all this going on they come together to find a solution and love. The story is filled with the work cut out for them and the characters, in their roles, paint a clear picture for you.
This was a very good follow up to the first book. I love how the siblings had each other’s backs. I love the characters and storyline so much. I can’t wait for the next one to come out. 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰💜💜💜💜💜😊😊😊😊😊
Delilah & Evan's love story is precious! Childhood friends that enter a false betrothal for peace amidst clan tragedies. Enjoyed knowing these characters. Have fun seeing the fullfilment prove blossoming!
This was a good story about betrayal by a clan allied to both the McGunn and O’Reid clans. As he was stealing from both clans he was pitting the two clans against each other. Follow Delilah and Evan’s fake betrothal as it becomes true love.
This was definitely a great book in this series. The storyline had me laughing and crying throughout the whole book. These characters in these books seem so real. Love these Historical Romance Series.
Love all of Maddie's stories. This one is so enjoyable. Wonderful characters. Adventure and some scary moments! Altogether, And another triumph for Maddie! O, and be sure to read the preview . Historical info invaluable!
I loved this story so much more than the first book in the series. There was no dancing around the love and affection the H and h felt for each other. Great story.
