When the teenage daughter of the biggest movie star in the world goes missing, Webb & Associates -- a private security firm catering to the rich and famous, is called in to assess the situation. Enter Ryan Archer. As a former Marine and former FBI agent, Archer has a combination of skills and training few others can offer. When he is given the task of locating the missing girl and returning her safetly to her family, Archer finds himself investigating a mysterious, powerful, and ultimately deadly organization that will stop at nothing to protect its secrets.
The Prophet by William Casey Moreton is Book 2 in the Ryan Archer series and follows on from his great first novel, 72 Hours, which was very well received. MC is Ryan Archer, ex-FBI and ex-SEAL, now working for Webb and Associates, that provides security services to the rich and famous. Harley-Davidson rider Archer is assigned to the case of a kidnapped movie star's daughter by a mysterious religious cult. Naturally, this leads to many twist and turns, (plus several typos) along the way in this all-action, quick-to-read thriller with a hint of romance (in the modern sense), though this is not graphic or distracting from the development of engaging characters (apart from Archer's slightly misogynistic/sexist attitude at times, which is rather out of step these days), leading up to the final denouement that is just slightly cliff-hanging and teasing, to encourage you to buy the next book in the series. Why not try The Prophet and decide for yourself - and #1 too - to get you 'in the mood' for an exciting tale that you're sure to enjoy!
I didn't en,joy this novel as well as I did the first. In this novel Archer is just taken to far over the top. He is not Mitchell Rapp are Reichert but he does have his own spot in action hero novels. I did enjoy reading the book. More tonight does a good job in developing his characters . You feel as if you know them on a personal basis.
I would recommend this novel for fans of this genre. It was well written and I enjoyed the way the teenage girls were developed in the story they really brought a lot to the story. But Morton has left room for a sequel and I am looking forward to seeing what happens to Silas.
Definitely a good read, Ryan is a character I look forward to following in hopefully more stories to come. It's not as non stop action as 72 Hours, but a great read in its own style....
Unlike the Ryan Archer#1 book, we really didn't know the "bad guy" early on in this book. Moreton did a great job of character development and storyline as the book went on. I greatly enjoyed this book!
As usual Moreton has created an unforgettable character in Archer. A hero who rescues hapless victims from a ruthless cult. Edge of your seat kind of action. Next book in the series, please...
This was a good fast read, not as action packed as the first book. Archer is back, working for a friend & helps on a kidnapping. The ending leaves some unanswered questions on the case & is wrapped up to quickly. The link between the two books is also not explained, surf shop worker to helping best friend at his security firm. That said, I do look forward to the next book.
He did it again. William Moreton wrote two in a row that are awesome.
Two in a row. Fast paced, tough as nails, sharp witted Ryan Archer solved the problem and took care of it. I like these books. Easy reading. Good characters. No foul language. I gave it five stars it deserves them.
I've enjoyed every book I've read by Moreton and this one is no exception. His action is always fast-paced and his protagonists are likeable. His antagonists are despicable and easily detested. I rate this one 4.8 stars and would have rated it 5 except for several places in the book that were poorly edited.
This is the second of the Ryan Archer series that I've read, and another really enjoyable story. Hope the author writes more featuring our hero. He's larger than life, the kind of guy who 'bubbles my hormones' even tho I know he'd leave me waving forlornly as he rides away on his Harley. Sigh...
