Blessed be the Name: A Study in the Names of God

Rate this book
A Bible study on the names of God provides the Bible student with an insight into the nature of God. The names of God found in scripture each tell us something about his nature and his relationship to his children. El Shaddai says he is all powerful. Jehovah Jira tells us of his provision. He is our healer in Jehovah Ropha and The Good Shepherd in Jehovah Raah. Adonai tells of his Lordship and Yahweh Shua (Yeshua) speaks of his salvation. Some Bible studies about the names of God almost imbue them with magical powers. That was exactly what God did not want. That's why the name he gave himself was simply Yahweh or "I AM." No, these names of God are not magical, they are, however, a way for us to understand his nature and most importantly God's relationship with his children.

In this Bible study series, we look at fourteen names of God. Each name advances our knowledge of God's nature. Each name is a bit of theology reduced to a single word.

This Bible study takes a discovery approach. Included in each lesson is a short commentary, followed by some scriptures and study questions. The study is appropriate for either individual or small group study.

I am a retired college professor. I live in California's Central Valley where it gets hot in summer. I hate summer. Currently, I'm writing full time. I don't think of myself as retired as much as the college is paying me to write my novels and Bible studies. I've been published in just about every venue. Fiction, nonfiction, radio drama, live drama, video documentaries, novels and book length nonfiction. I've been traditionally published in magazine and book format, and I'm currently engaged in Indie writing publishing my own stuff and loving it.

I live a fairly quiet life. I'm a life long single and live with my five cats. So, I'm keeping alive the cultural archetype of the Retired Old Maid School Teacher with Cats.

I write science fiction and cozy mysteries and have combined the two in my Dark Side of the Moon mystery series. I also teach writing and self-publishing in my online classes. Once a teacher....

Names of God

This book is not as comprehensive as other, longer books but it is balanced and has good scripture references to augment your study.

It was informative but I was hoping more of a educational aspect rather then a "preaching" approach at the end.
