CYNTHIA HEALD is a popular speaker and author of the Becoming a Woman Of . . . Bible studies, which have sold millions of copies. Her passion to help women walk more closely with God and live life to their full, God-given potential is seen in Drawing Near to the Heart of God. She and her husband, Jack, are full-time staff with The Navigators in Tucson, Arizona.
Excellent study. Great way to learn more about becoming a woman of strength through Christ. I liked the format with scripture to look up and meditate also thought provoking questions. Some other highlights were quotes from biblical scholars- Oswald, Murray and others; also real life examples of godly women.
Such a sweet book! As someone who tries to do a lot on her own this book humbled me. Reminding me that through all things I need God. That He is the one who will supply me the strength I need to go through my days.
I was blessed to receive an uncorrected proof of this book as part of a bible study with Cynthia. In each chapter, Cynthia provides an example of someone who has been strong for God in recent times, pertinent quotations from Christian scholars such as Charles Spurgeon and Oswald Chambers and scripture references to dive into. Then she offers "Thoughts from an Older Woman" to illustrate specific ways she tries to become receptive of God's strength. I particularly enjoyed the chapter entitled "Strong Enough to Be Holy" in which she stresses the importance of actually planning to pursue God by pleasing Him in everything we do, say and think and by never putting our Christianity on a shelf with the other idols. This book is convicting and Bible-dependent. Get ready to devote yourself to God and His Word.
Most of the Book was pretty good. The things she covered on the thorn in the flesh is absolutely terrible. If something is provided for in the atonement, no one, including God has to pray three times to remove it. Healing came with the stripes of Jesus, and it doesn't say... unless you have too many revelations. That's the same as saying forgiveness of sins is offered to every man but so-in-so because God shows them too many things. The things she has to say regarding holiness is dynamite, but I almost did not make it through the rest of the book after reading that religious train of thought in chapter two.
This book is a very intense Bible study suitable for individual and group work. The author challenges us to learn how we can use our weaknesses to rely on and be empowered via God's strength. Each chapter contained many quotes and scriptures to teach us how to dwell in God's strength and love. We learn how to be true Proverbs 31 women of dignity and strength. I found that it took several weeks to complete this highly recommended book.
