Detective, and ex-military man, Layton Shayne’s newest case has taken him from his home out west into the dark and ominous swamplands of Louisiana. His client Leticia Carter has only told him that the case is simple and involves three siblings with the last name of Kennedy. Layton’s job is to discover who should inherit the old family estate located in Shelby, a town so small it doesn’t even show up on most maps. Immediately after he entered Shelby, the detective met some colorful and mysterious characters. It wasn’t long before he discovered that there was an ancient supernatural element which held the citizens of the town in fear.
Soon after meeting the Kennedy sisters and their handsome brother Alex, Layton noticed that the old southern veneer of the town was thin and disintegrating by the minute. He’d need to depend on his military training to learn not just who to trust, but in order to survive. Somehow in the middle of all this, love comes to the lovelorn detective from more than one direction. Layton knows that work comes first and the case he is there to solve, which sounded so simple, is anything but that. If Layton manages to survive night treks through the swamp, an impromptu trip to New Orleans, some wise-cracking kids, and the lusty inhabitants of Shelby, he still has to come up against supernatural forces and mysterious blue light orbs with the power to kill.
No matter what the outcome, Layton Shayne’s life will never be the same.

Blue Light By Night started off like what any other mystery usually does. A detective is off to investigate his latest case assignment and he does not really know what to expect. He does know that his assignment is simple: finding out who is the real heir to a vast estate way deep in the South. Simple enough, right? But then it takes on an unexpected mysterious turn that hints of something deeper. Evil.
As the story starts, readers get a film noir feel, much like those old black and white detective mysteries produced by Hollywood in the late forties and early fifties. Soon, the appearance of an eccentric female character jumps the feel to a more deep south Midnight-In-The-Garden-Of-Good-And-Evil and so I thought: Oh, okay. A mystery based in the south. But I took a look at the cover and the title and nothing connected. This is when I started thinking that there is something deeper lurking within the seemingly simple plot. I recall that this is the same author who did Dueling Divas which was a complex mystery that could never be read rushed.
In this author's second mystery, we meet private detective Layton Shayne and he is just getting past his heartbreak from parting ways from his partner of ten years. As he meets the eccentric inhabitants of Shelby, New Orleans, he slowly comes to a realization that what he knew of the world had just stopped at this town's borders. Somehow, Shelby was not what it pretended to be. Soon he meets Alex, the golden lion of the cards. In this man he finds the answers to the town's mysteries and an unexpected romance.
Alex Kennedy is a golden prince, literally. His family had founded the town of Shelby and his sense of duty to it and its inhabitants had been taught and fully integrated into his system since the day he was born. Meeting Layton should have just cleared up the question of which among him and his two sisters were to inherit the estate. The answers he finds are something totally unexpected and unwelcome. Deadly.
Shelby is a town founded on Christian faith but thanks to the founder's wife, this faith takes a front seat as a cover to an ancient, darker spirit. The investigation that started out simply soon turned into an investigation into the darker past of the town and a cult that was older than Christianity itself. It was so old and hidden in history, even the present day followers were not all that certain how it came to be. All that Layton knew was that this dark spirit manifested itself as a Blue Light By Night and Alex's life was in mortal danger.
This book is huge. The blurb suggests a light read but is actually not. This is a thrilling, suspenseful mystery that got tangled up in a web of supernatural evils. True to the Antonio style, it is not a good idea to think one could just read through this within the hour. I am a fast reader, but it took me more than a day to get this done for the mysteries unfolding and the elements of religion-versus-cult were quite thought provoking. Try adding in the elements of flirty southern men and women (some in the nude, some clothed, some gay some straight), nude yoga and some hot man-on-man tangle in the sheets, and you get a story that is thought provoking and erotic without necessarily merging the two elements.
Reaching the end, the excitement of the Final Battle gave way to a supposedly more relaxed life for Layton and Alex. It is soon apparent, however, that we will get to read more of these two men and their fight against good and evil. The battle they had fought and won was just the tip of a bigger supernatural evil they know not what.

A clever little mystery, with supernatural overtones is just the thing for a backwater town in the Louisiana bayous.
Layton Shayne, PI, is in town to determine who precisely is the true heir of a disputed estate, and he finds more than he bargained for.
Fresh out of a relationship, having walked in on his lover in bed with his nephew, Layton isn't ready for love, but he eventually finds it.
Needless to say, he solves the crime, and like the RCMP, he gets his man - in a way he hadn't expected.
The characters are finely drawn and the good guys are likeable, while the bad guys not so much.
As with all books, one character stood out: the eccentric Miss Lucy, and I can't wait to read more about her.
Sequel, please.

I have to say I am disappointed with that book. Story was at start really pulling but more I read more boring it got and more hard it was for me to end that book.
From my point of view nobody will loose nothing if he/she skip it altogether.
