Psychiatrist Rayne Westerfield has found purpose in helping patients, especially those with PTSD, heal at the Resting Warrior Ranch. For her, there’s no greater calling than equipping people to fight the worst of their demons.

But she’s never allowed anyone to help her fight her own.

She’s kept her distance. Kept herself buttoned up tight. Even the people in the small Montana town she’s known for years—the ones she calls friends—don’t know who she really is, and the fears she hides.

And that’s okay.

But it’s not okay to Cole Phillips.

The FBI agent’s first interaction with the Resting Warrior Ranch a few months ago wasn’t under the best of circumstances, but he’s determined to make up for that now.

Where everyone else sees ice in Rayne, he sees fire. And he’s not going to let her fears keep him at a distance.

Especially not when Rayne witnesses something she shouldn’t and a killer comes after her. Cole will battle the criminal determined to silence her, and the fears she’s buried so deep.

The healer has fought for everyone else. Now this warrior will fight for her .

Montan Rain
2.5 Stars
Montana Rain is the 8th and final book in the Resting Warriors Ranch series. Sorry to say IMHO its not the best of the lot. It’s not terrible. It’s just that IMHO the plot has more holes in it than a piece of Swiss Cheese.
Let’s start with the female protagonist Rayne Westchester who has been a secondary character in all the books as the go-to therapist for our band of Resting Warriors and their significant others. Despite being a mental health professional, due to childhood experiences Rayne has allowed her illogical fear that if she gets too close to someone they’ll come to harm, to prevent her from forming any close relationships romantic or otherwise. Although her friendships with the Resting Warriors and their significant others who were all at one time her patients seem to be exceptions to that rule. She knows in her brain this is an illogical fear, but she can’t get past the fear to allow herself to fall in love with someone or form deep relationships.
Then there’s the plot itself. **Spoiler Alert** plot reveals ahead.
For this reader these impossible plot twists were just too much to allow me to just roll with them.
There’s of course an exciting finish where Rayne has to be rescued from the mob by Cole. And a very nice H.E.A. for both Rayne and Cole and all the couples in this series since this is the final book.

It was interesting how Cole was smitten with Rayne, but Rayne didn't want anything to do with him. It really took him a long time to get her to change her mind, even though you could see she was interested in him. When she told Cole her history, it all made sense, her walls firmly in place for a reason. You would think with her job, she would have gotten beyond that. Of course it didn't help later on what happened to her family.

And what bad luck Rayne had, a chance encounter really turned her life upside down. It was a good thing that she had the guys at Resting Warrior and Cole to help when she really needed it.

Towards the end, things got really hairy for them, I hated that Rayne gave herself up, but also understood why she made the choice. So glad that Cole and the FBI got there in time to save her.

Loved the ending to this one, brought the book and the series to a close in a great way!

The last installment and what a way to end this series.

Cole and Rayne had a moment the last time he was visiting Resting Warrior Ranch. But a full year has past since they saw one another and by chance they run into each other while visiting Chicago. Little did they know that chance in counter would change their life forever. Trouble collided with Rayne and decided to follow her home. And when it came knocking, Cole is there to make sure she comes out on the other side unharmed and his.

I've been reading every book in the series and its sad to see it end. Every single couple was captivating and I can't pick a favorite. This series is definitely one of my favorites out there that's for sure.

Cole Phillips is coming to Montana to make up for the mistakes he made and to get close to the woman he can’t stop thinking about.

Warm summer air filled my mind, along with the faint thump of nearby music in that trademark Montana silence.

Rayne Westerfield will not let anyone get to close to her especially Cole. When she finds herself in trouble he’s right there to the rescue.

Cole got under my skin. He pushed my buttons on purpose.

I’d never been kissed like this. Like he was kissing all of me and not just my mouth. Like Cole was pouring starlight directly through my lips.

This last installment of the Montana series went out with a bang!! The perfect amount of suspense and romance to end one of my favorite series.l

Montana Rain is the eighth book in the Resting Warrior Ranch series and the last book in the series. 🥲 The series started out being co-written by Josie Jade and Janie Crouch and then they started to just be written by Josie Jade, which is super cool. This book can be read as a standalone, but I highly encourage you to read the whole series in order. If you don’t have time to read all that, then I suggest you read Montana Freedom before this one so you will understand the situation better where our main characters meet. I had to go back and read some of the book to refresh my memory.

Montana Rain is a small town protector romance that has the perfect blend of action, suspense, romance, steam, redemption, forgiveness, and so much more. It’s a great story about healing and love where life has left both our main characters have been battered and broken and together they can heal and battle the past that haunts them.

If you have been reading the Resting Warrior Ranch series then you know who Dr. Rayne Westerfield is. For those who haven’t read the series yet, Dr. Rayne Westerfield has been known for her role at the RWR as their resident psychiatrist. She has been known to help all of the founders and some of their loved ones in their times of need. She is everyone’s rock, the one they turn to in their desperate times of need. But no one knows the truths, the fears, and what haunts Rayne. She has tried to hide her insecurities and put up a brave face in front of everyone, but only one person has been able to see through her walls and is determined to break them down and see who she really is.

If you remember from Montana Freedom, Special Agent Cole Phillips with the FBI made his debut appearance. He wasn’t the nicest human to the Resting Warrior Ranch crew and others while in town so he left a bad impression on a lot of people. After the case he was chasing leads from closed, it left him in a state of limbo. Instead of being on desk duty and listening to all the whispers, he decided to take a leave of absence and that meant he was heading West to Montana. To a small town called Garnet Bend to try to clear his head, mend some bridges, and if he saw a certain red head in town, then that would be the cherry on top.

The relationship between Rayne and Cole is fast paced and based off them knowing each other from Montana Freedom. It’s been awhile since the two have seen each other, but they both held real estate in each other’s minds. After the way they went their separate ways months ago, they run into each other again and it is just as awkward as it was back then but the magnetic connection between them was just as strong. After their reunion, things start to get suspicious and Rayne is in danger. Knowing who she needs to call for help, she calls the one person she least expected and it turns out to be the best decision she ever made. Together the two of them can heal and live their lives the way they should without any strings holding them down.

Like I mentioned before, this is the last book in the series and it was a great way to end it. I am sad that it’s over and fingers crossed we will see the RWR crew and their loved ones again. I highly recommend this book and the entire series. If you are looking for a good book to get lost in, then this book is it.

Congratulations Josie Jade! I just saw the other day where this book got an orange banner for being the best seller in Medical Romance.

Terrific ending to the series. Cole first appeared in Montana Freedom , where he was part of an FBI team. He didn't know then that his partner was in cahoots with the bad guys. Now, he's dealing with the mistrust of his fellow agents, so he takes a leave of absence to deal with his feelings and get some distance from the workplace stress. He's also determined to mend fences with the men at the Resting Warrior Ranch and see if there is anything to his feelings for Rayne.

Rayne is the psychiatrist who works with the wounded warriors at the ranch and anyone else who needs her help. Though she has become close to the people of RWR, there are parts of her past she keeps locked away. Though she is equally attracted to Cole, she refuses to do anything about it because she believes terrible things happen to those she cares about.

Rayne is able to maintain her distance from Cole until a chance encounter in Chicago brings them together, and the sparks are stirred up again. While she's relieved to go home and put distance between them again, she has no idea that Cole is headed to Garnet Bend for the next four months. I loved her first encounter with him and how he puts her on notice that he's determined to pursue their attraction. He won't pressure her but lets her know he isn't going anywhere.

Things change when she sees a news story about a Chicago murder, and then her office is broken into. The team at RWR is looking into it and is not convinced it's a coincidence. When her home is broken into, Rayne barely escapes discovery. The first person she calls is Cole, who rushes to her side. It doesn't take long to figure out what has happened and that Rayne is in danger. I loved seeing Cole's protectiveness come out.

Cole whisks Rayne off to his cabin, hoping to keep her safe while the team at RWR works their way through the possibilities. Rayne is wary of being alone with Cole, afraid that her resolve to resist him won't last. Things get complicated when a freak blizzard snows them in. All of this alone time gives the attraction between them time to build. At the same time, Cole's understanding and patience enable Rayne to finally open up about the trauma in her past that keeps her from allowing herself to care about anyone. Breaking free of that guilt lets Rayne give in to her attraction to Cole, and they find plenty of ways to stay warm.

But their peace doesn't last long, and with the end of the blizzard comes the end of their safety. The action picks up as those looking for Rayne find their hideout. There were some tense moments as Cole and Rayne avoided detection, but they knew their options were limited. The only thing to do is to return to Chicago and deal with the issue. The action was intense, with threats, kidnappings, and a ticking clock. The final confrontation had me glued to the pages with its twists and turns. I loved the ending, especially Cole's plans for the future. The epilogue was a terrific wrap-up for the book and series. I'd love to see a return to the ranch sometime in the future.

MONTANA RAIN is the eighth and final instalment in the contemporary, adult RESTING WARRIOR RANCH romantic suspense series co-authored by Josie Jade and Janie Crouch. This is former US Navy SEAL turned FBI Agent Cole Phillips, and psychiatrist Rayne Westerfield’s story. line. MONTANA RAIN can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary. RESTING WARRIOR RANCH focuses on the men and women who own and work for Resting Warrior Ranch-a spin off from Janie Crouch’s ZODIAC TACTICAL series.

NOTE: Due to the nature of the story line premise, there may be triggers for more sensitive readers.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Cole and Rayne) MONTANA RAIN focuses on the rekindling relationship between Rayne and Cole. Months earlier, FBI Agent Cole Phillips’ assignment placed everyone in danger including our story line heroine. Cole left, leaving an angry and bitter Rayne Westerfield to help the people struggling in the aftermath. Fast forward to present day, Rayne continues as the in-house psychiatrist for the Resting Warrior Ranch, and Cole has been relegated to desk duty in the FBI’s Chicago office but a seminar focusing on PTSD brings Rayne Westerfield into Cole Phillips’ orbit, and the Chicago mob is about to take aim at our story line heroine. What ensues is the rebuilding romance and relationship between Cole and Rayne, and the potential fall-out as the Rayne has something the Mob is desperate to find.

The world building focuses on the fractured and acrimonious relationship between our story line couple. Cole knows there is definitely mixed feelings from Rayne Westerfield but Cole knows Rayne is the only woman he will ever love. Trying to stay one step ahead of the Mob means going into hiding with a woman who is struggling to understand what is happening and why, including her feelings for a man she is unable to trust.

The relationship between Rayne and Cole is one of second chances, of a sorts. Cole is struggling with events from the past, blaming himself for what happened and why. Rayne is battling between head and heart, believing Cole is the cause of so much strife in their lives. As Cole and Rayne go into hiding, their mutual yet different pasts reveal a kindred spirit and heart breaking pain. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

There is another large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters including several of the previous story line couples. We are introduced to several members of the FBI, as well as members of the Chicago Mob.

MONTANA RAIN is a story of power and control, murder and the Mob, acceptance and forgiveness, friendships and love. The fast paced premise is intriguing and entertaining; the romance is seductive: the characters are determined and desperate.

Montana Rain Review ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️

I was so hoping that Rayne would get her own story because she’s such an amazing character. So as sad as I am that this is the end of this series I’m so glad it ended with Rayne and Cole. Rayne and Cole remind me of Grace and Harlan and the way they pick on each other and get one another riled up. Rayne is the wonderful therapist that has helped every one of the Resting Warrior Ranch men, their women and the clients that have come to the ranch to heal. She’s a strong, independent woman who truly loves helping others, especially the ones she considers friends and family. Rayne truly helps all of those she comes across even sometimes a stranger she doesn’t actually meet. Cole was one of the FBI agents involved when Emma and Daniel were almost taken out by Cole’s partner who ended up being the one they were hunting for. Cole still can’t believe he never saw his partner as the madman they were hunting until it was almost too late. Cole didn’t make the best impression on the men of Resting Warrior but will do anything and everything to try and make that right. It’s funny when the one thing you truly pine for all of a sudden appears right before your very eyes. It just so happens Rayne and Cole find themselves both at the same place at the same time. The excitement from this chance encounter is short lived when Rayne all of a sudden becomes a target when she returns to Garnet Bend. As fate would have it Cole chooses Garnet Bend to try and recharge from the FBI and possibly mend the fences with the men and women of Resting Warrior. Rayne wants nothing more than to give into this pull she has towards Cole but refuses to out of her own personal fears. However when Cole is the one she calls when danger hits her too close to home, will she still be able to resist him? What happens when the danger you’ve been terrified of comes knocking on your door and takes those that mean the most to you? Can you ever truly let your walls down in order for someone to see the real you? Can Cole and Rayne find their way to the life they both yearn for even when the path is filled with danger? With all of the books in this series I couldn’t put them down once I started them, but this one even more so! I absolutely loved every single heart stopping, tear inducing, passion filled moment of Rayne and Cole. I truly didn’t think I could love characters more than I already did, but these two they are just beautiful in their own broken puzzle way. I encourage you to read this series if you enjoy strong alpha hero men, sassy independent women who will do anything to protect those they care about. Also if you enjoy books full of humor, sarcasm, passion, spice, love, romance, action, sadness, drama and every other emotion there is to feel. Thank you Josie Jade for such a beautiful series that will be on permanent rotation for me!!!!

Western Montana set romance
PTSD and retired military themes
1/5 romance
1/5 physical intimacy
1/5 suspense
1/5 storyline
HEA - Yes

Possible triggers: Kidnapping, torture

The good:

The other characters get a nice amount of screen time.
The character progression for the other characters (excluding the main couple) was nice to see.

The bad:

Words cannot express how disappointed I am in this final book. If I thought that the previous books had any insta-love, this book blew them all out of the water. An incredibly rushed storyline and romance, and very poorly written suspense.

I did look for the suspense. I used a magnifying glass and found nothing until I moved onto an industrial grade microscope. Compared to Montana Sanctuary (book 1), I honestly didn't feel any raw emotions for our FL at all - which was unfortunate.

Rayne was written in such a way that all of her previous expertise was rendered questionable (if not completely dismissible) because of her inability to have any emotional intelligence at all. The authors did her character a great disservice.

Cole was thrown into a pot and boiled down into a mindless, golden retriever, alpha-wanna-be. I was so disappointed with his character that I did multiple double takes. It was like his whole personality was recreated since Montana Freedom (Book 6) just to squeeze out one last book.
The worst part is that Cole morphs into a faceless Resting Warrior copycat when the book might would have probably been much more fun if he had stayed as a grumpy black bear.

The scene in the cabin where our ML and FL hadn't showered for days and decided to get-a-feasting was so cringy that I endured actual pain. I don't know who thought that was sexy, but I felt like exfoliating with a GI scrub brush and bathing in a whole bottle of perfume after reading that part.

One thing I do want to mention is, while this last book was a total let down, I appreciate this series and the journey it took me on - while I was reading it actively and when I was pondering the contents. If you have trauma, I want you to just consider giving these books a try. They, especially the 1st, 2nd, 4th, and 6th are actually quite good in my opinion and have brought up some pretty deeply buried things for me. For that reason alone, I do recommend this series.

This is the last story in the “Resting Warrior Ranch” series by Josie Jade. Rayne Westerfield, the ranch’s psychiatrist, is the heroine in this book. Rayne has been the therapist for the PTSD patients who are at the ranch, and her strength has always been there to help all of them. But what no one knows is that Rayne has her own issues and fears that she has managed to hide from everyone she knows – except for Cole Phillips. Cole is the only person who has ever managed to see beneath Rayne’s mask.

Cole is the FBI agent who helped rescue Daniel and Emma in Montana Freedom. That is when he first met Rayne. Sadly, even though he saved the couple, by the time he left town, everyone, including Rayne, was angry with him. Cole had discovered that his partner was a traitor, but he had not realized it until too much damage had already been done.

Cole and Rayne meet again when they both happen to be at the Chicago airport at the same time. However, Rayne does not want to have anything to do with him. But, what she doesn’t know is that Cole is moving to Montana to take a desk job for a while.

However, as soon as Rayne returns home, she discovers that someone is violently searching for her. She knew that she had witnessed an unusual situation in the Chicago airport, but she had no idea that it was serious enough to put her life in danger.

Rayne is very frightened for her life. She doesn’t know who is after her or how to stay safe. Plus all of this brings back a past incident that happened years before – one she has always kept hidden. However, since Cole has always had strong feelings for Rayne, this strong, brave, FBI agent chooses to help her with her problem.

Readers will instantly become addicted to the non-stop action and riveting suspense that fills this book from the very beginning to the very end. This page-turner is also enriched as this author skillfully weaves this beautiful love story of Rayne and Cole throughout this complex plot.

Oh i love this series and often then men ( and girls) spoke about their therapist Rayne but we only saw very little from her until now. It was great to finally learn more about her and how the situation evolved.
Rayne has become a friends of the resting warrior team so she choose to stay their friend but stop being their therapist for ethical reasons. However that came in handy when after an incident while at a conference in Chicago she got stuck with mafia trouble. She knows Daniel and the guys are the best to understand and solve the problem......what she was not expecting was to see Cole, the FBI agent, with them and determined to protect her.

Because of her past, Rayne has kept people away and she did the same with Cole after a passionate kiss but he is not letting go and she is relieved to have his help and soon she can't keep him away and the chemistry is firing.
Cole is on admnistrative leave because his partner was corrupt....while he had nothing to do with that he still feel the blame and he is feeling guilty so until the investigation is finished he prefers to take a leave and he knws the place to go: resting warrior ranch despite the way he got to know about it. The fact Rayne lives in Montana is just the bonus...at least that's what he is telling himself. Now when he hears that she is in danger, nothing could stop him to protect her..and a cabine surrounded by a blizzard is the perfect place to reveal secret and built trust.

I really liked the chemistry between Rayne and Cole and the investigtion was well built...it was a wonderful romance suspense and i loved to see deeper insight into the characters'past and family. So really a good instalment perhaps just a little too steamy for me.

What a great wrap to the series.

We've met Rayne throughout the Resting Warrior Ranch series as she helps these warriors deal with past losses and PTSD. Just like so many others, Rayne is hiding her own trauma. She lives to serve others, not really dealing with her own baggage.

Likewise, we've met Cole before, although not in the best light. So determined to catch the bad guy, agent Cole was willing to put people at risk to achieve his goals, all while being hoodwinked by his partner. Now on administrative leave as his oversight in not identifying his partner as one of the villains is being investigated, Cole has come to Montana to recover and heal.

He had met Rayne before when on the case that went so poorly and felt a spark. Now that he's back in Montana, he's hoping he will have the opportunity to get to know Rayne better and find out if that spark can become a flame. When Rayne sees something she shouldn't, and the mafia is after her, Cole certainly won't let anyone threaten the woman who might become his future.

The pacing of the story is brisk, with lots of mafia action. Rayne proves herself to be both strong-willed and intelligent. As Cole gets under her skin, we also see some cracks in her armor revealing the vulnerability beneath the professional, in-control persona she usually shows to the world. Cole even convinces Rayne to open up about her own past, helping her to heal.

It's a treat to see another side of Cole - he's no longer just that uberfocused FBI agent. He becomes a multilayered, more human character. As the reader is informed about Rayne's past, she too, takes on additional dimensions and complexity.

The love story between these two characters is engaging and moves quickly, pulling the reader along for the ride. I love that both Rayne and Cole, secondary characters in previous books, get their own happily ever after in a way that is a bit unexpected and exciting. It was also lovely to see cameos from the other couples in the series included in the storyline. Such a great wrap to the series.

Five stars.

This is an honest, voluntary review of an ARC of the story.

I received this book as an ARC for an honest and voluntary review. I've read the entire Resting Warrior series, this book is the conclusion. All of them can be read as a standalone. Rayne Westerfield has been a periphery character for the entire series, and has made cameo appearances in Janie Crouch's Zodiac Tactical series. She finally has a chance at her HEA, however she doesn't want it. As a therapist she knows that it's not her fault that anyone who gets close to her runs in to some devastating event. But she just can't allow anyone to get close to her for this fear. That's why she pushed Cole Phillips away the first time they kissed. However fate brings them together
Cole Phillips has baggage of his own, he never realized his partner with the FBI was corrupt until someone almost died. People almost died because of that mistake and he blames himself, doesn't know how they could forgive him. He decides to take administrative leave from the FBI while the investigation continues as he feels all the eyes of his coworkers on him.
When someone starts targeting Rayne for a chance encounter in Chicago, Cole is going to do everything to keep her safe. Eventually that's going to break down her walls. The FBI may think his involvement with Rayne is a way to redeem himself with the Bureau, but he could care less. It's all about his love of Rayne and keeping her safe.
This was a great ending to a great series. They all can be read as standalone novels, the characters of previous books interact at family dinners, but each book has minimal bearing on the next one.

Montana Rain by Josie Jade
Resting Warrior Ranch #8

Great ending to a wonderful series ~ Loved this book and the series it is part of!

What I liked:
* Cole Phillips: FBI agent on administrative leaves, ex-Navy SEAL, lost someone important to him in the past, taking time to decide what he wants to do in the future, feels a connection to Rayne and to the Resting Warriors Ranch
* Rayne Westerfield: psychiatrist, well thought of, knows she has and is dealing with personal issues-guilt-triggers that keep her from the life she would love to embrace, good with people, is in the sites of the Mafia, friends with those at the Resting Warrior Ranch, attracted to Cole but afraid
* The strong chemistry between Cole and Rayne
* Cole’s patient gentle though sometimes teasing way Cole gets under Rayne’s skin while also getting closer and helping her open up
* Rayne’s sister and mother
* The way the Resting Warrior men and women come together to support, assist, and protect those they know and care about – they have a LONG reach
* The handling of the blizzard by Cole and Rayne
* The plot, pacing, setting, and writing
* The conclusion and knowing what lies in store for the characters in this series.

What I didn’t like
* Who and what I was meant not to like
* Thinking about how ruthless, cruel and evil some people are and what they will do to further and maintain their hold on power

Did I like this book? Yes
Would I read more by this author? Definitely

Thank you to the author for the ARC – This is my honest review.

This was a fantastic read! I truly enjoyed it and was pulled in from beginning to end. This book can be read as a standalone but if you have read others in the series you will get some extra enjoyment as we have already met both characters (and love Rayne) and get to catch up with previous characters and where they are now. I loved getting to know Rayne better and actually see who she is in this one. I also loved that Cole is getting some redemption in this as well. Rayne ends up thrown into a situation by chance and thankfully Cole and the Resting Warriors are around to help her out. I loved watching Cole work for things in this one. He had been a complete jerk the last time he was in Montana and around these men for the most part and while things weren't that bad with Rayne, he didn't show himself in the best light and he is trying to show his true self and be better. This story had plenty of action and intrigue as we are trying to put the pieces together of who is after Rayne and why. What the connection is and what they think she has since it seems to have followed her from Chicago. I loved watching things develop between Rayne and Cole as well. They push each other, in the best ways, and Cole did a great job of being around and showing that he cared and wanted to put in the effort without it going too far. This story was well written and engaging and really held my attention the entire time. I am sad that this series is over since I have really enjoyed it but this one did a great job of concluding the series as well. Can't wait to see what comes next for this author.

Great ending to a wonderful series. I’ve loved every book in the Resting Warrior Ranch series and ending it with Cole and Rayne was perfect. She made an appearance in all the books in the series as the ranch psychiatrist helping everyone else deal with their struggles. She had her own demons to fight but kept them hidden from her friends and as best she could from her family. When an unexpected situation puts Rayne’s life and the lives of those she cares for in danger Cole and the guys at the ranch step in to help.

Cole made his first appearance in Montana Freedom and didn’t quite make the best impression. From an operation that spiraled out of control, people at Resting Warrior ended up getting hurt – almost killed – on his watch. He came through in the end but still feels like he has many things to atone for and while on leave due to that specific situation while the FBI sorts out the details of his involvement he picks Garnet Bend, Montana as his place to regroup and make amends. Running into Rayne was just a bonus.

Sparks fly when these two get together but for personal reasons and guilt Rayne denies the attraction and tries to stay away from Cole until an incident happens that puts him first in line as her protector. He’s going to prove to her that he’s changed and let her know for certain that he won’t leave her side. He’ll stand by her and fight for her and them until the end.

Loaded with suspense, danger, action, mystery, family, romance, and more. Rayne and Cole’s story was perfect for them and the perfect way to end the series.

Rayne and Cole

This book felt like a bit of a bonus. Rayne had been featured in most of the books in this series, but mostly just in passing. I liked getting to know more about the therapist who helped the Resting Warrior gang so much in the past. The tone was also a little different with both Rayne and Cole being on the periphery of the main ranch crew.

Rayne and Cole had a little bit of a second chance romance. They met in Montana Freedom when he was chasing the criminal after Emma and Daniel. Cole was still recovering from the case, both physically and professionally and decided to take a four month leave from the FBI.

While in Garnet Bend, Cole planned to shoot his shot with Rayne because she was the woman he couldn’t stop thinking about. His appearance ended up happening at just the right time as Rayne was the target of the Chicago mafia and he would do anything to protect her.

Rayne and Cole getting snowed in at his remote cabin was the best thing to happen to both of them. It allowed them time together without interference and allowed them to open up. Rayne held on to a lot of guilt and believed that if she let anyone get close to her they would suffer, and Cole was just the man to break through her barriers. He gave Rayne space when she needed it and knew exactly when to push.

The suspense and action at the end really drew my attention. It was fast paced and in line with the suspense that had taken place in all the previous books. I really liked the ending and the love between Rayne and Cole.

I have been hoping and waiting for Rayne’s story since she was introduced. She was always the ultimate professional, serving as the psychiatrist for not only Resting Warrior Ranch but also their community. She always seemed to carry such a heavy weight on her shoulders - as I expect psychiatrists to do. I loved FBI agent Cole Phillips and how he challenged Rayne in all ways. He has to earn the friendship and respect of the Resting Warrior Ranch men and their partners due to his behavior and the danger his last assignment placed them in in a previous story. He owns it, and they all respect that about him. He decides to take administrative leave to explore the chemistry he and Rayne have. However, Rayne is trying hard to ignore and then reconcile her feelings for Cole despite what happened. She doesn’t think she should have her own happiness because of past trauma. He pushes her on this and brings her out of her own self-imposed shell. Add in the danger and the snowstorm, and you have a heck of a last ride for this final installment of the series. My only comment would be that, at times, the story dragged a bit. But overall, it was a great story which I highly recommend. What I admire the most about this series is the authenticity of working through trauma, friendships, supporting each other, acceptance and giving each other space when needed, and forgiveness. I will miss these characters. I was honored to receive an arc, and this is my honest review.

I voluntarily reviewed a copy of "MONTANA RAIN"
What a powerful conclusion to this phenominal series so full of emotional turmoil, angst, grief, loss, steam, conflict, danger, kidnapping, murder, past traumatic issues, twist & surprises that keeps you turning the pages to the end.
Rayne Westerfield is a psychiatrist that works with Resting Warrior people dealing with PTSD, among other things she very close to everyone but she hides herself from everyone her fears from her past holding herself hostage to letting herself let anyone she loves getting up close.
Cole Phillips is an FBI Agent on leave after an incident his former partner betrayed him & hurt people from Resting Warrior Ranch, he knows & wants a relationship with Rayne but she hates what he did to her friends, but he's there to make amends to the guys.
Rayne & Cole ran into one another in Chicago she was at a conference, while talking a woman runs into her three men chasing her, what she didn't know is she drop something into her bag that Chicago Mafia wants back, putting her in grave danger.
I definitely recommend to get this extremely well written conclusion to this amazing series we get "Cole & Rayne's" story the journey they take you on is quite the dangerous rollerciaster ride, will these two get their HEA, its a must read you can't miss what a way to end this series sad its over so many great characters you fell in love with along the way.
PHENOMIBAL ROMANCE I LOVED IT 🖤 🖤 🖤 🖤 🖤

Rayne and Cole’s story in Montana Rain, the eighth and final book in the Resting Warrior Ranch series, has to be my favorite of them all. Don’t get me wrong they are all so good, but something about Rayne’s story really got to me. She has been such an important part of this ranch that has helped so many people suffering from PTSD that it was really great to know about her story and to follow along with her happily ever after. The hero in this story is none other than Cole Phillips, an FBI agent that didn’t have the greatest relationship with those at the ranch.

These two have been attracted to one another for awhile, but Rayne is unable to get over things that have happened in her past. Their relationship takes a turn when they happen to be in Chicago at the same time. A chance meeting in the same hotel bar ramps up Cole’s decision to try to have a relationship with Rayne. Cole has decided to take a leave of absence from the FBI after the debacle of the last case and the first place he thought of was Montana and to be near Rayne. Even though he was not sure what his reception would be at the ranch, he knew that was the place he needed to be. Surprisingly to him, he was welcomed by all except for Rayne, but when danger followed her back home, she instinctively knew he would protect her.

Overall, I really enjoyed their story. The connection between the two were on point, the suspense kept me on the edge of my seat, witnessing the strength of their feelings towards one another was absolutely perfect. What a way to end an amazing series!!

First let me say to find out this was the last book I’m sad. Ok let’s start with how I felt with this book. Twists and turns. I loved it.
Well Rayne Westerfield the psychiatrist at the Resting Warrior Ranch is an amazing women who takes care of everyone who needs help. While in Chicago she runs into a man FBI agent Cole Phillips who did something she wants nothing to do with him after what happened when he was in Montana. Now they run into each other. He wants to apologize. But she’s not sure what to do. Upon leaving there meeting something strange happens. She passes it off, and heads home afterwards. But the situation in Chicago leads into something she never expected. Then seeing Cole again in Montana shocked her to say the least. What was he doing there? More importantly what was she going to do about her situation. The men and women of the Resting Warrior Ranch will do anything for her. She doesn’t want to bring danger to there door, but it seems like she did anyways. That when she turns to Cole for help..

What will happen? Well I can’t say anymore. So much more to come. Just buy, and please buy the rest in this series. You will not be disappointed. A bit steamy in each book so be prepared.

Buy the book. It’s to be released 9/22/23

Simply wonderful read and a great addition to the series, written with great depth and amazing action
I have had the pleasure of reading everyone of these marvellous books in this simply amazing series and I guarantee that you will enjoy this story between Cole and Rayne and the spark of connection between the characters. FBI agent Cole last appeared at Resting Warrior Ranch and the FBI Agent Cole was a determined character always determined to capture its adversary and he had been hard working and honest and hoped this work ethos would preserve his career.

When maybe fate or karma had drawn him to Chicago he had been surprised when he had accidently run into Rayne and he follows her to his home and Cole is so determined to keep her safe but she has other ideas. I love the interaction of these characters and the redemption that the couple are able to experience their life together on a new strong and determined path, something they have worked so hard to earn together.

I assure you that you will love every moment of this book it is simply a fantastic read.
I voluntarily received and review an Advanced Reader Copy
I thoroughly enjoyed the book and look forward to reading any future publications; keep up all the great writing.

I have been waiting for Rayne to get her book and was thrilled that it's finally here, but so torn because this is the final book in the series and I so do not want it to end. That being said Rayne's story was so worth the wait. Rayne has been touched on in all the previous books in this series. As a psychiatrist she has helped many of our Resting Warrior/Garnet Bend folks. She is sweet and kind but you just know that there is some pain she is hiding. Cole was introduced in a previous book and he is still haunted by the fact that as an FBI agent he was unable to see that his partner had been dirty and he wants to make amends. The two of them have that instant chemistry, that push and pull that make this book an instant page turner. When Rayne's life is in danger Cole immediately steps up. No one was going to hurt her while he was around! As with all books in this series, there is a wonderful and symbiotic progression in both the romance and the suspense. As the story got closer and closer to the end I found myself literally getting closer to the end of my seat. No spoilers from me here but wow that climax! I also loved revisiting with all the Resting Warrior folks and their women. This is just a beautiful story and a wonderful way to end the series.

This is the 8th and final installment of the Resting Warrior Ranch series. I have really loved this series and really hate leaving.

So glad for Rayne's and Cole's story, although wasn't sure I liked Cole in Montana Freedom -- until the kiss! Now, after this book, I love him! They're great together.

Rayne has been in the series from the first book as the psychiatrist for the RWR and has helped the owners, their ladies, and others. She hides secret fears, though, from everyone.

Cole showed up in Montana Freedom as an FBI agent investigating a case. He was a jerk! At the conclusion of the case, major betrayal set Cole back. Now he believes the FBI doesn't trust him and decides to take a leave of absence to try to get his head on straight.

Even though he's not sure how all at the RWR will handle him being around, he heads to Montana from Chicago to figure things out and to see the woman he just can't get out of his head or heart -- Rayne! They run into each other briefly in Chicago, part ways, and then trouble finds Rayne. That trouble then shows up in Montana at Rayne's office and home, Cole steps in to protect Rayne.

Lots of twists and turns and intimate scenes! Loved this book and what a wrap-up for the RWR!

Great story with a lot of ups and downs, romance, angst, and suspense. Keeps you engaged to see what happens next. Rayne is the Psychiatrist at the Resting Warrior Ranch helping Navy Seals suffering from PTSD to heal while dealing with issues of her own in silence. Cole is a former Navy Seal, now an FBI agent here on administrative leave, due to the ongoing investigation into the death of his partner, and his own wounds. However, Cole has a lot of baggage to unload before his life can calm down.

Besides physical healing and his emotional healing, Cole asked to come to be near Rayne and try to close the gap between them so they can move forward. This situation is already difficult enough when Rayne witnesses something unexpected and now has a killer after her.

Once they become snowbound it is up to Cole to protect her from a killer, and the fears she has been suppressing for too long.

Montana Rain is the final book in the Resting Warrior Ranch Series. This has been such a great series, I hate to see it come to an end but I was so excited to finally get Rayne and Cole's story. Rayne is the resident psychiatrist for Resting Warrior Ranch and has been there throughout the whole series helping the RWR men and their families fight their demons. She is always the first to step up and help support others, but refuses to allow anyone close enough to help her fight her own demons. Then we have Special Agent Cole Phillips, Cole made a terrible first impression the last time he was in Garnet Bend and now he's back to try to right the mistakes he made and hopefully get closer to the one woman he hasn't been able to stop thinking about since his last visit. Rayne has mastered the art of keeping people at a distance and she does the same thing with Cole. But once she witnesses something she shouldn't have she'll have no choice but to break down those walls and allow Cole in. Cole is more than willing to step up and protect Rayne from the criminal trying to silence her and help her overcome the deep fears she keeps bottled up. This was a great conclusion to an amazing series, I can't wait to see what Josie has in store for us with her next series.
