Before I lay me down to sleep

Gail Washington story had me in tears. She went through so much. Her last wish/ matchmaker endeavors was granted through her clients/friends Nathaniel and Zaya and Raven and Morgan. The journey getting there was full of highs and lows but in the end everybody was happy.
That Monroe I could have kicked his tail to kingdom come. He was so selfish and trifling. That goodbye letter read by Gail's father had in all in my feelings.
I'm so ready to hear what happened in book 2. This was my first book by the author and it won't be my last. I truly loved this book even though I used a half box of Kleenex 😜😜. It was a well written story that kept you by the end of your seat. I loved the quotes at the beginning of each chapter.

Living in your purpose

This book truly showed Gail living in her purpose. No matter the circumstance, she knew that she was the glue that kept Raven, Morgan, Zaya, and Nathaniel together. It’s inspiring to see someone know exactly what they want without doubting themselves and even though wha Gail wanted was devastating to those around her, she stood firm in her decision. Very well written book.

For Gail

So many layers to this novel. The thing I feel are important take aways from this book: love is power, and it is expressed in many ways. Love without conditions is freeing and joyous. Another take away, equally important, take care and protect your physical and mental health.

“Before I Lay Me Down To Sleep” by Obsession is an emotional story about Gail, a physiologist who is given six months to live and her strong determination to put together four of her clients in hopes they find love before she is gone. Gail is a loving person who finally surrenders to the idea she has lived her life pleasing everyone but herself. She is a very head strong, rational character that sincerely seeks to help others find the love that they lack.

In this romantic drama there are four, very different characters that play key roles in Gail’s life. All are patients of hers and all have the same problem, laid out in different ways. Each character in this story has been forbidden the warmth and comfort of true, unconditional love. Not just romantic love but love from a mother, sibling, a trusted adult or best friend.

I find it interesting how point-of-views are transitioned in indie books. I am noticing a trend forming in some of the novels I have read. I felt the quotes heading each chapter were profound and that there was no true need for the announcement of the point-of-views. If I mentally removed the chapter headings and omitted any reference to what character was in front position, the transitions were smooth and spoke for themselves. I also feel that this story would be better suited with another run with an editor or proofreader. For me, it would have been a 5 star read but the editing issues I found, small but noticeable, keep me at a 4 star rating.

Each of Obsession’s characters in “Before I Lay Me Down To Sleep” has their own heartbreaking story that brought me to tears. I found myself emotionally connected to everyone, but more so to Gail and her heartfelt sincerity when it came to love. With demons of her own and devastation hitting her from all directions, I felt like I did when I watched “Soul Food” for the first time and cried like I do when I watch “Steel Magnolias.” Obsession has created a heart-wrenching story that brought me sadness, tears, joy and a new hope that even the most broken person can heal with the power of forgiveness.

In Before I Lay Me Down To Sleep by Obsession readers are introduced to Gail Washington, a therapist who just found out that her husband has been unfaithful. Gail also learns that she has six months or less to live. Gail comes to the realization that she will be leaving behind clients and friends who are still in need. Gail decides her last act of good faith will be to throw a gathering that will help her match make her clients. This is Gail’s last wish before she dies, will everything go as she planned it?

Nathaniel, Raven, Zaya and Morgan are devastated when they learn their therapist is dying. All of them are beside themselves especially since Gail does not want fight with treatment. Gail demands them to show up at her gathering especially if they care about her. All four individuals realize that Gail will not take ‘”no” as an answer so they all agree. Gail has surprises for her clients and as the night gets underway Gail’s hope is that her four clients will have matches made in heaven.

What I Did Not Like: I hated that this book had to end.

What I Did Like: This book brought out different emotions in me from sadness to frustration. Gail’s love for her clients rings true in every aspect of the book. These clients have different backgrounds but the same thing in common they need and want to be loved. This author’s writing style captured me with the first chapter and could not stop reading. These characters were well-developed and consistent with the story line. It had drama, deceit, and betrayal which are everything a good book needs. I definitely recommend this book to others.
