How People Get Power helps organizers and community leaders bring unity and success to those they serve. Kahn describes how an effective organizer enables others to improve their lives by convincing naysayers, persuading policy makers, and using self- determination to create change.
This was a very interesting book. Kahn basically breaks down the art of organizing into specifics for anyone about to take on this challenge. I live in a very, very poor area and kept imagining how I would apply each and every idea to this area as I was reading the book. I belive Kahn's ideas can be applied to other areas of organization, such as education, too. Of course, this book is not for everyone. I think the reader must have a passion for a cause before they will let themselves get lost in Kahn's work.
