Duncan Helm loves the Brazen Bulls MC with his whole heart. It is his family and all he’s ever wanted, but he had to fight his father, Maverick, tooth and nail to claim his birthright and wear the Bull. Since he finally got a seat at the table, he’s never known a moment of doubt that he is where he belongs. Until now. The club is making a big move, and to get what they want, they’re doing things Duncan can’t quite square in his conscience. Now he’s starting to wonder if the Bulls are what he’d always thought they were, and if not, what that means about who he is.
A few years ago, Phoebe Davis returned from Afghanistan with a Purple Heart and a long road to get back to herself and her home. Now she’s living a quiet, good-enough life, running a farm-animal rescue in rural Oklahoma, building a found family with her best friends and making it work. But they’re living at the edge of their resources, without much room for trouble. As is usually the case, that’s when trouble turns up.
Duncan and Phoebe meet on a dark, cold January night, on the side of the Broken Arrow Expressway. Phoebe needs help, and Duncan was taught never to ride past a motorist in distress. By the time dawn breaks, they both suspect that chance meeting has changed the route of their future.
But Duncan is struggling to understand what path he should be on, and Phoebe is facing the possible washout of her whole life. They don’t know if they’re heading in the same direction, or if they should be, or if they even can.
I was born and raised in the Midwest, but I was transplanted into the dusty soil of Northern California and have apparently taken root there. An inveterate geek and gamer, I am a fan of many things considered pop culture and maybe even lowbrow.
As a reader, my favorite genres are science fiction and fantasy, but as a writer, I've found my home in romance--or perhaps it's better to say simply "love stories." I have a yen to try other genres, too, at some point, but for now my muse wants to tell stories about lovers and families.
I write for the joy of it, and I write stories that I want to read. If others like them, too, that's just the cherry on top. I’m not interested in rules and formulae. I follow my muse and my characters and let them take me where they want to go, wherever that might be. I like big emotions, dark and light.
I like complicated characters with flaws and weaknesses as well as strengths, and I like each character’s strengths and weaknesses to be different from those of other characters. I’m much more concerned that my characters be interesting and diverse than that they be widely considered to be likable. I try to create people, not types.
Likewise, I want my stories each to be distinct from the others. Once I’ve told a story, I don’t want to tell it again. So even within a series, one of my books might be very different from the next. Some might be very dark, others equally mild.
That isn’t to say there aren’t trends and recurrences in my work. I’m drawn to certain themes and settings, and my muse has her favorite toys and tools. But I guard against those tendencies becoming a formula.
A note: I don't spend much time here on Goodreads. I try not to read any reviews of my own work. Besides, this is a site for readers, but since I write at a fairly manic pace, and read and edit for other writers, I don't have much time to read recreationally. Mainly, I log on to update my info. So if you message me here, it might be a while before I see it.
All the love and adoration for Susan Fanetti who with, Respect, concludes another MC romance series that I absolutely love. The legacy kids of the Brazen Bulls are heavily featured and their stories are thrilling, progressive, romantic, and real. Ending with Duncan, you’ll be reminded why you love the Helms and all the Bulls so much.
A great end to the Brazen Bulls Birthright series. I love Duncan and Phoebe's story. I love the fact that Duncan found a good woman to fit into his life. The fact that Phoebe was a veteran and did something as unselfish as running a rescue farm for horses and other farm animals.
The beginning is perfect. I could literally picture Phoebe on that cold day trying to get the badly abused horse to trust her was beautiful and heart-wrenching. Duncan finding her on the side of the road was a life saving miracle for Phoebe who didn't know how she was going to get a very scared horse to her farm. As the story progresses it is easy to see that Duncan had fallen in love with Phoebe but didn't think he was ready for commitment. The run with his father, Maverick, and the rest of the Bulls was probably the eye opener for Duncan. I love how although the Bull family were outlaws, they had morals that they lived by. The advice that Maverick gives Duncan is priceless and Duncan is aware of just how important his parent's relationship has been to him and his siblings.
I thought of the book as multi-faceted in that Eight is still getting put in his place by Cooper and JJ (!! of all people - YAY!). I can't believe all of the 'kids' have grown up and become adults worthy of their birthright. Susan's incredible talent has come through again. Bringing these wonderful characters that we, the readers, have grown so invested in. I feel like I personally know and respect them for who they are and the lives that they chose to live.
Highly recommend any and all of Susan's books, especially the series and how she talently evolves her characters beautifully and fully. Thank you Susan! So looking forward to your next masterpiece!
I’m feeling a strong sense of sadness and melancholy right now. I’ve rated the book 5-stars even though it’s really 4-stars because it’s the series I’m rating.
I can’t believe the series is over. One of my very first reads was Night Horse MC and then Brazen Bulls. I feel like these guys are my family. I’ve “watched” them grow, fall in love, suffer loss and trauma and grow up. And Dunc’s book was the perfect ending. This book had an underlying message about family and love. And Respect.
I love Phoebe for Dunc. All her faults were her strengths and his calm and strong nature just supported her. And she complimented his unsure personality. The need to understand and ratify the inter arguments he had about his club and good and bad.
I particularly love Duncs relationship with his dad in this story. I loved Mav’s story and found this was a perfect epilogue to Mav and where he’s at now.
I want to hope there is more in this series. Not Birthright but the next generation but maybe it’s time to end on a high. Make me want to keep dreaming of what happens to them all.
Thank you Susan Fanetti for taking me on this MC journey over the two clubs. I’ve loved every minute of it.
Great ending of the saga of the Brazen Bulls, I will miss this series. I liked Phoebe and Duncan individually but it took a while for them to grow on me as a couple. Not sure why, but didn't really understand or connect with their chemistry. Susan did a great job, as usual, depicting characters with mental health issues, in the case of Phoebe, she had TBI and PTSD. I also liked the fact that Duncan struggled with some of the violence the Bulls engaged in; he did his part but he didn't like it or always understand it. This book really highlights the importance of family, whether it's created by blood or by love. The only subplot I didn't like was the rich woman who came after Phoebe, didn't seem plausible to me.
I enjoyed this one more thanW the previous. It wasn't as juvenile although at times I wish I could slap Duncan upside the head...lol. Phoebe had suffered and came through in the end with some complications but she carried on. I love animals so what she did for a living was awesome. Phoebe has a strong personality so she'll keep Duncan on his toes. I can't believe this is the end of the Brazen Bulls. Hopefully there will be more to come.
Sad that this was the last in the series. I loved the Brazen Bulls, the original series, and this, the next generation series. It's hard hitting and full of the feels at the same time. I highly recommend reading it if you're looking for a great storyline with some spice on the side. Susan Fanetti is one of my favourite MC authors and never disappoints.
