NEW YORK TIMES & USA TODAY bestselling author Melanie Shawn writes HEAs filled with sweet and sassy heroines, heroes who are cinnamon rolls in the streets alpho-holes in the sheets, casts of supportive *cough: meddling* friends and family who put the fun in funny, toe-curling combustible heat, and sugary sweet “aww” moments that will have your hearts and e-readers melting.
DNF...lacklustre...initially, I wanted to discover the references of the ‘Fabulous Four’, the dynamics of Karina, Lauren, Amanda and Samantha. Collectively they represent a bond that defines friendship, independently they were insecure, vulnerable and lacked self-confidence, except maybe Lauren.
This failed to keep me engaged, I found myself easily distracted...a repetitive theme featuring different characters.
On their first date — Luke tried to wrap his mind around everything he had learned about Sam. He had never met anyone who was so blazingly confident in some aspects and yet so unsure of herself and insecure in others. As they pulled into Samantha’s driveway, he had been lost in his thoughts. The result of all that deep thinking, was that he had barely said a word. As Luke turned in his seat, he saw that she was already getting out of the passenger side door. “Bye, thanks for a great night!” Samantha said quickly, and much too brightly, as she shut the door behind her and practically sprinted to the gate. Luke, has finally regained his senses he jumped out and was at her side almost immediately, before she even got the gate open. “So that’s it, no good night kiss”?
Oh!” Samantha turned to him, eyes wide and voice infused with innocent surprise, “I didn’t know you wanted one.” He smiled. He loved how she was constantly saying unexpected things. “Well for future reference, just know...I always...want a kiss.“Oh, OK,” she said, looking up at him, her eyes widened.
“Can you get drunk off of a kiss?” she mumbled then, realizing she had spoken the sentiment aloud, clapped her hand over her mouth. “Didn't mean to use your outside voice, huh?” He saw a bright red blush creeping up her cheeks, which was still clapped over her mouth, and she shook her head furiously. “You crack me up Samantha! Why didn't anyone ever tell me you were funny?” She shrugged, “Nobody ever told ME.” “Well, I'll tell you what, beautiful. If it is possible for a kiss to intoxicate someone, then that one definitely put me over the legal limit. Good night, Samantha. Thank you for one of the best nights of my life.”
3.5 I'll Always Want One Stars, rounded to 4. This is just plain sweet and pure entertainment. Sam has had a crush on Luke since she was fifteen and hung posters of him all over her room. He's a snowboard sensation and that's her sport. When Sam started on the professional scene at age eighteen is when Luke first set eyes on her. There was just something about her. Oh, she was way too young for him, but for some reason, he had to keep tabs on her and make sure she stayed safe. Finally, he's got a chance to keep Sam within reaching distance. There's an opening for a ski pro at the resort where Sam works, it's close to Luke's hometown, and he's no longer competing. Imagine Sam's surprise when her crush of all crushes walks in for an interview. Sparks fly and the fun begins.
Loved it! Soooo romantic <3 and the end... I shed a tear or two... maaaaaybe three.
Sam is just so adorable with her doubts and her worries and Luke... *sigh* Luke is just so perfect! and I love their chemistry and the way they react around each other.
The whole babysitting thing, too cute!
The story was really good and I love how the Fab 4 stick with each other through thick and thin. The end was sooo sweet, poor Sam, how she must have felt, and Luke, trying to find her...
Lauren´s reaction at the end was like, wow... she´s my least favorite character cause she always seems so cold, but I´m guessing I need to read her book to see more of how she is.
If you love reading a fantastic story.. you have to read this third book in the series.. Melanie and Shawna have again written and awesome book....this is the story of Sam and Luke.. Carry Me Home Luke and Samantha Book 3 Teenage crush/age gap (8yrs)
If you are looking for a sweet, slow burn romance, this just might be your book. I love this little town, and the Fabulous Four. It was a good story.
Sam is the athlete of the four best friends. An Olympic snowboarder. Uber competitive, hates the thought of losing at anything. Very sweet and innocent. Very trusting and to a certain extent, naive. But loyal to those she loves. Has had a huge crush on Luke since she was ten years old. She covered her bedroom walls with his posters. Luke is the oldest of his three brothers. He’s returned home to look after his mother after the death of his father. A competitive snowboarder, the best in the world at the prime of his career. But an injury ended his competition days. He first laid eyes on Sam when she first came on the scene. Every time he has approached her, she’s turned and left the room. The mountain resort that Amanda and Justin, from book one, own is expanding. They just happen to need two ski pros. How fortunate Sam and Luke are both available, and living in the area. Now Sam just needs to get over her crush long enough to stay in the same room with Luke for more than two minutes. It might make working together a little easier. Hope Falls is a quaint small town in the Sierra Nevada mountains. It has quite the cast of colorful characters. The four besties are wonderful. A close knit group that you can depend on for literally anything. I loved Luke. He was a really good guy. He took Sam’s idiosyncrasies with a grain of salt. He was patient with her and with the help of her friends they worked through them. Sam I struggled with a bit. I had a hard time believing a grown woman could be as clueless as she was. Yes, I get the way she grew up and the intense training she was going through, but at times she behaved more like a young teen. And the need to win at everything was a bit over the top. But she had her moments. She was fun, had a cute sense of humor. A relatively drama free story. Slow burn, but it is spicy when they finally get there. Dual points of view. No cheating. There is a happy ending. What I’m missing in this series are epilogues. It would be nice to get the rest of the story. Or at least a small glimpse of what came next.
The main characters seem super immature and juvenile for being in their 20s/30s. I get that Sam is the big V and needs her card taken away. But even then, with her life experience and time snowboarding, it doesn't seem like she should be so immature about everything.
I didn't find these guys super relatable. They had their moments, for sure. But their immaturity really killed some of it. And the whole "your manager is borderline harassing you" line was a bit silly and over the top (not in a good way). Sam wasn't exactly defending herself and standing up for what was happening - her retirement. So, it's not unreasonable her manager, who'd been her manager forever, would be trying to rope her back in. Luck on the other hand, his original retirement purpose wasn't clear. And I didn't think he retired so long ago. It made me wonder how they'd be in the same circles if he was retired and she was just starting out. 🤷🏼♀️
Anyway, the ending also wasn't that believable. Was it cute? Sure. But does anyone know a piece of paper, let alone a napkin, that's been opened/closed a bunch of times and left in a wallet for ten years and isn't disintegrated beyond recognition. But it did make for a sweet story. Just not white realistic.
So idk. It wasn't a super horrible book. But definitely not the best.
Sam is starting her first real job, working with one of her best friends, Amanda and her fiancee Justin, at the lodge. Amanda's father, Parker, left her and Justin. Her first duty is to help Amanda with the interviews for who will become her co-worker ski/snowboard instructor. Imagine her surprise when she hears the voice of the last person she expected, Luke Reynolds. Luke retired from snowboarding after an accident several years ago, but Sam has had a crush on him for a long time! Will he get the job? Amanda would be crazy not to hire him as he is still a huge name, and he would bring in a lot of business. Can Sam make herself work with him? Or will she default to her old reflex action anytime he walks into a room? Or will she need to bow out? She decides she can try her best to work with him and try to ignore the goosebumps and tingles anytime he is near. Only is that what Luke wants? He came to Hope Falls because of Sam. Why? What happens when she tells him her secret? Only one way to find out is to read this great story by Melanie Shawn! It will keep you guessing right to the end - in a good way! 👍
Carry Me Home is a fantastic contemporary romance by Melanie Shawn. This is a well-written book populated with a great cast of characters. Sam loved her snowboarding career but it's time to move on. Luke's snowboard career ended with an injury just as Sam's was starting. Now they are working together to help get a new venue at Moutain Ridge Outdoor Adventure up and running. Sam and Luke's story is packed with drama, humor and sexy bits. I enjoyed this book and look forward to my next Melanie Shawn book. Carry Me Home is book 3 of the Hope Falls Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliffhanger.
Luke and Samantha have know each other fo 10 years having traveled and completed in the same snowboarding field. Luke has been in love with Samantha for years. Samantha has had a crush on Luke for years
When Luke and Samantha start working together on the snow slopes their love for each other comes out.
The story was easy to read and sucks you in from the first word. Luke and Samantha are easy to love and even easier to love together.
I’m really looking forward to the next book in the series.
This is book 3 of the Hope Falls series
A really enjoyable read and I would highly recommend.
So glad to read Samantha's story! She's a great down to earth gal and is trying to decide if she wants to keep snowboarding professionally. When Sam is back in Hope Falls her best friend Amanda offers her a job as a ski pro at her resort. When Sam finds out that there is another ski pro position open and they are interviewing Luke, her secret crush. Luke and Sam keep their feelings close to themselves and no one really knows how they feel about each other. These two are so cute together! Love this series!
The story line was sweet, some ways believable. Luke & Sam were almost too good to be legit. The Fab 4 are definitely not believable, women like these, in their professions, would Not,or couldn't drop everything at a moments notice. The premise is good but not realistic. Although out of your other books I have read this one is Sweet. I do appreciate you not being any more explicit than you already are, better to leave something to one's own imagination. JMO
I liked this book best so far, out of the series. The other things that truly bothered me were the things we never found out. Like, what did she do to make trainer/manager finally leave her alone? Did she ever fully retire? If those were answered in this book, I probably would have given it a 5 star.
I almost gave this a 2 because the plot seemed SO rushed! I honestly got creepy vibes from Luke- age-gap/border-line stalker from a far kinda thing. Sam was ok. I loved her in the other two books but in this one she was just kind of silly. There was a tiny bit of excitement at the end and it bumped it to a 3 for me, but by a hair.
It's Sam's turn for a story, and this inexperienced girl is going to finally get some action. I like Sam a lot, and Luke was a great character, too. It was cute that they were crushing on each other and didn't know. It's nice to see them both get what they want. Fun and spicy.
The love story of Samantha and Luke. Samantha is an Olympic Snowboarder retired. Luke is a superstar Snowboarder who return to Sierra, Nevadas. They meet and fall in love. They both are looking for someone to love forever. A great story.
Oh myhb gosh! Sam and Luke story was so beautiful! I'm so happy to see all the girls together again! I love that they are always helping each other out! My favorite part of Sam and Luke story was the end when he told them about how they first met. So beautiful! Can't wait to read about Lauren next!
Man I fell in love with this book. It was sweet, innocent, and sexy all in one.
Sam was a professional competition snowboarder. All of her adult life she was living with her coach/manager and did nothing but train and compete. She is twenty-seven years old and had never had a boyfriend. When she was a teenager she was in love with Luke. He was a professional snowboarder and had posters of him all over her room. She told her best friends that she was going to marry him some day. Little did she know that he felt the same way. She told her coach that she was going to retire, he agreed for her to take the year off but to wait to retire until after that year to see if she still felt the same way. She knew she was not going to feel differently but she went along with it to satisfy him. She wanted to move home and find herself. She had always had everything done for her. She never got to live on her own and make her own decisions and she wanted to change that. Her best friend Amanda owned an adventure resort and asked her to be one of the two pro skiers they wanted to hire to work the resort on the new lifts they were making. She was so excited she agreed. Little did she know that her crush was the first applicant to apply.
Luke was a retired snowboarder after a career ending injury. After that he went from resort to resort to be an instructor after that. He was known as a playboy. He was not looking to settle down. One day he met Sam. She was just starting on the scene and his was ending. He was older than her and she was only eighteen and he knew he was too old for her. He tried to speak to her but she ran away. He felt embarrassed because of his age and felt dirty for having feelings about her. But that is something you can't control is feeling of the heart. He kept tabs on her over the years and after his dad passed away he decided he wanted to be closer to home. So he put feeler out for resorts close to his home. Sam's manager called him and told him that Sam was taking a year off. He needed to find out for himself that she was ok. He also seen a post about the resort in her home town. That would be perfect because it was close to his family. When he saw Sam that day for the interview he knew this was the right thing. His family was glad he was finally taking his head out of his ass and trying to get Sam.
She didn't think she was even in his league and she had such a crazy crush it made the first few encounters awkward because she had trouble speaking and staying in the same room with him. He slowly wore her down though and they stating dating. Things were going great, the day of the reopening of the resort, he proposed to her in front of everyone and the television crew. She said yes. That night she lost her virginity and everything was looking great. That was until the next morning when his phone started chiming. And she didn't want to wake him up so she swiped it to make the noise stop. That is when she saw a text from her manager asking if she agreed to come back. Then the very next second was a text from some female telling him that she missed him and then a text of her boobs. She was so upset that she ran out of the cabin.
When Luke work up to a raging snow storm outside and no sight of Sam he was frantic. Then he found her engagement ring and he panicked even more.
What happened when he finally found Sam?
Did she take the time to listen to him and get his side of the story?
I was really excited to start reading Sweet Victory. Sam was so cute in the other stories I read so I was looking forward to getting to know her better. Really I thought I would like her like I liked Amy. Sam was fun, but I didn't enjoy the story as much as the 'Snow' stories (the last 4 in the series). Not sure why but these first four while good were not as good as the last ones.
Sam has always been focussed on her snowboarding. She has not had much time for an actual life since her training takes up so much time. She is on the top, but recently she has been feeling like it is too much. She has never even really had a boyfriend or anything and she thinks it is time to change that. She decides to take a year off and spend some time with her friends in Hope Falls.
Luke has always had a crush on Sam. Whenever he sees her it makes him happy. The problem? He apparently did something to make her hate him as whenever he is in the same room with her she immediately finds a reason to leave. When he learns that Sam is going to be staying in Hope Falls he moves back to the area as well. When they both end up working together at Amanda's outdoor adventure company things are looking up for him. He is determined to figure out what he did to make Sam hate him, apologize for it and get her to like him. It was sweet.
So this story was good, fun to read and all that, but I have been going through all of these Hope Falls books pretty quickly. They are starting to get a bit...I don't know if it is just that I have read them all back to back basically so they are starting to blend together, or if these first four books in the series I just don't enjoy as much as the last four. If that is the case I read them out of order. These first ones just seem like the same basic story again and again. They work together, fall in love, yey! Like this one they are both top athletes on the snow and now work together on the slopes so it was...I kind of wish it wasn't just both people are the same (both realtors, both top athletes, etc). Like I wish Sam would have found some nice boy who doesn't even know how to ski or something. It just...I don't know. It was a good story, I did enjoy it, I just am starting to get a bit tired of the same basic storyline. Oh well.

Sam has only crushed in Luke for years, without his knowledge. Luke thinks he did something wrong and Sam hates him. He is ready to settle down and stop being self centered. If only he can convince Sam how beautiful and strong she is and how much he loves her. I adore Sam. The ending was perfect.
