"ARC received from NetGalley for an honest review

It took me a while to get into this book, think I struggled with 3 main characters and had to keep really thinking who had done what. It's a typical chick lit book. Took me a while to read as it really didn't grab me.

This release by Victoria Fox was much the same as the last book of hers I read. The last one I read was good but it felt like there was something missing, and sadly I felt the same about this one. We meet Robin, Turquoise and Kristen who are the three main characters are who have strong characters but they just didn’t catch my interest. I also found myself struggling to distinguish between the three of them, so at times I would lose who I was meant to be reading about.

The writing style was fine and the story trundles along but I just couldn’t connect with too much in this book. I can’t even give a definitive reason. It all seemed okay but there was nothing for me that made it all that memorable. The storyline was okay but at times it felt a bit too drama filled and jaw dropping, making me just dislike it more.

I certainly don’t want to sound too harsh and maybe this was just not the right book to read at the right time for me. Sometimes I find that I have to be in a certain mood for books. Sadly this book didn’t cut the mustard, and although not a bad book I just didn’t enjoy it enough for it to be memorable.

Pure indulgence on so many levels, it's got everything.

I loved getting to know all of the different characters and there own individual stories which you get to discover as you progress through the book.

Interview with Victoria Fox: http://stephinlondon.com/2013/05/17/i...

Last year on holiday in Fuerteventura (oh so distant past) I devoured Shirley Conran's Lace in a matter of days. Wicked Ambition is, without a doubt, Lace for summer 2013. Seriously. I felt like I should be reading this book on a hot, sunny beach while sipping a mojito and not on a crowded bus in rainy, depressing London. Now magazine has branded the book '600 pages of sin' and they're not wrong. There's loads of treachery, sex, revenge, more sex, violence, sex and well... sex!

Having never read any of Victoria Fox's other novels, I didn't quite know what I was getting into when I requested the advance copy of Wicked Ambition on NetGalley. All I knew was that the blurb sounded fun and like a much needed break from some of the more serious (aka depressing) stuff I've been reading, plus blogger friend Leah over at Chick Lit Reviews and News seemed pretty excited about it so I thought I couldn't go wrong.

Wicked Ambition is the stories of three women--Robin, Turqouise and Kristin--and is as much about the drama that comes with fame as the connections that tie them together. I really liked how Victoria wove in certain sub-charaters and situations that connected the women together without being overly (and painfully) obvious. The sex scenes, because how could you not talk about those, were written very well and without the cringe factor despite being pretty graphic. Like Lace, there's a little something for everyone here, minus the goldfish!

As a whole, the novel was like one of those guilty pleasure celebrity reality shows only sexier and a lot more dangerous and I found it really hard to put down! I kept wanting to read on a bit further, just one more chapter, until I found myself at the very explosive climax (ha ha) and satifying (the puns are too easy) ending.

I love bonkbusters--they never pretend to be what they're not and they never fail to disappont. I'll be eagerly awaiting Victoria Fox's next novel... after I've read her back catalogue of course!

Wicked Ambition is out on 7 June in the UK and the US, just in time for summer break!

I’m slowly being tempted back into the chick-lit genre by Sophie Kinsella’s recent books, but it’s been a very long while since I’ve read what’s now called “bonkbusters” (is this a uniquely British term, by the way)? The latest one making headlines is from Victoria Fox – the cover of her new book WICKED AMBITION appears to be everywhere nowadays, so I decided to take up an offer to find out what today’s bonkbusters are all about (as an aside, that term makes me laugh – can’t believe I’m actually typing that on my blog).

So a bonkbuster obviously opens with a bonking scene (okay, I’ll stop now – sorry!), and the story takes off at full speed from there. Victoria Fox’s main characters are loosely based on real-life celebrities, with just enough hints that you think you know who she’s using as inspiration, but not enough to guess for certain. Or maybe I’m just not up to speed with the latest going-ons in Heat magazine (which is more probable, I admit).

Despite the alternating POVs and the fast-paced plot, I had no issues distinguishing between the characters or keeping up with their drama-filled lives. This is not a subtle book – Victoria Fox doesn’t hold back when it comes to unveiling dark secrets and their consequences (cue the occasional dropped jaw), and everything (and everyone) is full-on. Obviously, there is some very satisfying comeuppance for the villains in the end, but I admit to feeling faintly dissatisfied when I closed the book – the very black-or-white approach to characterisation meant that the story lacked a certain something, and despite Robin, Turquoise, and Kristin triumphing in the end, I felt that the women lacked empowerment for much of the story.

Perhaps I was expecting a bit too much from this – if you’re looking for something with substance, this won’t be one for you. Having said that, WICKED AMBITION kept me entertained over a long train journey, and I suspect it’ll fit the bill perfectly if you’re into bonkbusters and want an escapist holiday read.

Having never read any of Victoria Fox's previous novels, I didn't know what to expect, except of it being a bonkbuster. I like to read bonkbusters from time to time, maybe it sound funny but they are in some way refreshing. In my opinion, it is not so easy to write a really good bonkbuster novel because actually they are always the same: we have some female characters with dark past and secrets, they are usually good women, then we have bad boys, we have thriller, drama, sex and romance. And now try to write a good book when already hundreds were written.
Well, Fox has written a good book. It has all that I was hoping for. The three main characters here: Robin, Kristin and Turquise are interesting women. The are linked to each other, even if they don't know each other at the beginning and the flow of action brings them in some way together. There is a lot of drama, a lot of suspension and tension, a lot of dark secrets and underneath all of this I was wondering which of the celebrities are hidden behind the main characters. Because I think you can't stop comparing and guessing.
Like in a typical bonkbuster, the plot leads to very interesting and sudden end and here is where I found the weakest point of this book. Because in my opinion the actions leading to the end were too long, weren't as important, and I just wanted to finish reading. Till this moment the book was strong five stars for me but because of this I am giving it 4 stars.
But nevertheless, the book is worth its time. There is a lot of action, revenge, bad characters but the good always wins:) Now I'm sure I will give other Fox's books a go.

I was really looking forward to reading this book as I have never read any books by this author but she is often compared to Tasmina Perry who I love so I couldn't wait to try one of her books. Unfortunately I can not give a full review for this book as I didn't manage to finish it. I got to half way and although it was an action packed storyline which those of you who follow my reviews will no I love, I was really struggling to distinguish between the three main characters and so I was getting frustrated and confused at not knowing who was who and so I had to put this book down. This is a book I really battled with as the storyline seemed entertaining and one that I would usually enjoy and actually it was that that kept me reading but with the characters not being developed well enough I had to admit defeat. I would still say if this book is in your local library then pick it up and give it a try as the storyline is great and you may have more joy in telling the characters apart.

This was such a great read. some of the things that happened where a bit unexpected and really kept me wanting to know more. I love how the paths of these 3 famous women crossed. Very entertaining. Although some bits in the book dragged on a little especially when you need to get to the good parts.
Its worth a read. I think it will make a nice summer holiday book when you are chilling by the pool side.

First book by Victoria Fox that I have read,it's a sexy, fun, glamorous read with lots of drama that ticks pretty much all the boxes of a great chick-lit/bonkbuster read. It had plenty of likable & not so nice characters and a good plot to bring them all together.
I enjoyed this book and I already have Temptation Island by the same author on my to read pile and I look forward to reading it soon.

It was interesting reading stories from three different POV's that all interrelate at some point. It kept the book fresh, intriguing and dramatic. This read held my interest nicely and was an enjoyable novel. I liked each girl individually and they were all quite different from each other, each girl had her own issues to deal with and the ending was rounded off nicely. Worth a look.

These types of books are my guilty pleasure. So easy to read and lose yourself in. I love how it's from a different characters perspective for each chapter so it keeps the story moving along. A bit predictable at times but that tends to be the case with this type of fiction. Still a thoroughly enjoyable romp.

I liked parts of this, but not the entire thing. Whilst I love drama, there were far too many high powered storylines in this book. My favourite of course has to be Leon's story with his brother Marlon as that story has such a human element, which is more than can be said for some of the others.
Worth a read if you enjoy bonkbusters.

Good book but like others I found myself getting confused with the characters and having to think who's who, the storyline had variety in it however I found it a little predictable at the end, perfect for fans of tasmina perry books like me though!

Slow to get into, but ended up being enjoyable. I found it a bit hard to keep up with the many characters, all of whom were linked, but it is a good read. Recommended, altho don't be surprised if you think you'll never get to the end of the 600 pages!

Not one of her best, but it did get better after 60%. I hope in future novels she moves away from this predictable format of her last few.
