Dr. Wiersbe and his wife, Betty, live in Lincoln, Nebraska.
This volume has been my companion for the last three years as I have read my way through the Bible a chapter (or occasionally two) a day. Wiersbe has a wonderful knack of summarising each chapter succinctly and often quite strikingly, too. He often gets to the heart of the passage in just a few lines and then inserts a personal challenge. So this has been a very valuable help to daily Bible reading.
I was looking for a commentary, but this book gives a synopsis of each chapter in the Bible. I recommend this book, if that is what you are looking for. It was not what I needed.
I have been reading through the One Year Bible for the last year and accompany my reading with this book. Wiersbe uses simple language to summarize each book and chapter of the Bible. The language is simple, but the wisdom profound. There are many references to other scriptures which could easily deepen your understanding of the passage. There are also wonderful quotes throughout which are thought provoking, encouraging and comforting. I highly recommend this resource.
I have read Warren Weirsbe for years. He's like an old friend that you have coffee with. First the good, Warren Weirsbe will always be a help to you. No matter what you read. Now the not so good this is not a a verse by verse exposition. So if that's what you're expecting don't buy it but, you will benefit from his knowledge and understanding of God's Word.

Dr. Wiersbe put together a great resource that will last the test of time. It's very useful for Bible study and even giving a sermon outline for those who don't regularly preach.
I downloaded a one year bible reading plan from the Navigators and picked up a copy of this book, With the Word, for help understanding the passages. I'm almost half-way through reading my bible. With the Word has been extremely helpful to me in understanding the passages. The bible plan I'm using goes back and forth from old testament to new, which I greatly appreciate. Some of the bible chapters are easy to understand, but others are not. I had tried to read the bible on my own years ago, but with this book, I'm getting far more out of my readings. Each day, I read the chapters from the reading plan, then write down in a spiral notebook what it means to me. Then I pull out With the Word and it gives more depth and sometimes historical perspective to the reading. I have to say this is one of the best experiences of my life. I've learned so much and now, instead of dreading the next reading assignment, I can't wait to learn more. Highly recommend for anyone wanting a deeper understanding of the Holy Bible.
