Anya
Misty has been brutally attacked and she is literally hanging on to life. Thomasina, Misty's mother, and Baron 'aka" Brick, Misty's ex and now step-father, decide to take Misty out of the hospital and bring her home with them to care for. In the meantime Brick cannot stand seeing his former love in so much pain. When Misty asks him to do her a favor, he will have to make a decision that can potentially be life altering.
Brick decides to go after whoever is responsible for Misty's attack and he is determined to exact revenge. In his search he comes across a young woman by the name of Anya and decides to offer her a place to stay. Anya tells Brick that she is in search of her long lost father and the story quickly shifts into that search. Anya is so taken by Brick's take charge and helpful ways she begins to develop feelings for him. Brick lets her know up front that he already has someone that has his heart, so no one will ever be able to take her place. So just enjoy the time they do have with each other, because there will be nothing more.
“Brick” by Allison Hobbs is the 4th installment in the Double Dippin' saga. After reading “Brick,” I had to take a second look at the synopsis and realized that it had nothing to do with what I had just read. Misty was hardly even mentioned in the first 160 pages and Brick had still not even attempted to go on any "rampage" or a "trial of bloodshed and carnage." (Quoted from the synopsis.) There was a lot of sex that really did not fit into the storyline. The character Anya kept mentioning her ‘inheritance,’ making the reader wonder the reason she was even receiving an inheritance until page 226. I have been a huge fan of Ms. Hobbs since her first novel “Pandora's Box.” Unfortunately, this just so happened to be the only one thus far that disappointed me. Instead of reading like a sequel, it read like a completely new storyline and seemed to mainly center on new characters.
