Eiichiro Oda (尾田栄一郎, Oda Eiichirō) is a Japanese manga artist, best known as the creator of the manga and anime One Piece.

As a child, Oda was inspired by Akira Toriyama's works and aspired to become a manga artist. He recalls that his interest in pirates was probably sparked by the popular TV animation series titled Vicky the Viking. He submitted a character named Pandaman for Yudetamago's classic wrestling manga Kinnikuman. Pandaman was not only used in a chapter of the manga but would later return as a recurring cameo character in Oda's own works.

This volume was so good and features the death of well mentioned in the volumes name and when he dies, its so emotional and seeing Luffy's reaction to it just broke me and like even after they rescue him and he wakes up and cries for his brother, its just emotional. And then there is the death of whitebeard and the blackbeard twist with his powers and a massive victory for the marines but now that ONE PIECE is real has been declared, more and more pirates are coming out. And we learn of the backstory of Luffy and Ace when they were kids. Its such a great volume and sheds so much light on one of the most crucial moments in the series history. Brilliant writing and twists and turns just wow!

5 TURNING POINT STARS!

The first REAL death that really knocked me off. I'm wailing like a baby!!! What a feeling. This two great man death will bring another movement in the pirates' world. Damn Ace always be my fave and the most handsome/normal character ever :D

The War was the climax of the first half of One Piece. The peak. Where mostly everything came to a head, where the plot threads up until that point were bound together, and where we could finally see just how high Luffy yet needed to rise - just how formidable the true great powers of the world were. It teased great many things, gave us a bit to taste of so many characters and plot points, all the while still leaving the main course for later. To this day, it has not been topped, and the main course remains uneaten, yet we can already smell it coming...

Anyway, now it's the time for wrapping up and denouement. Some extra backstory for Luffy, who was somewhat lacking in tragedy and loss as compared to his crewmates. Ace desperately needed some fleshing out, too. But Sabo rather came out of nowhere.

didn’t think people could actually die in one piece. dealing with this about as well as luffy is (not at all). also how great is it that the volume is just named after the main event. how did people feel when this first came out, “oh new one piece!!! ….oh.”

First chapter of this volume is Ace's last words and they destroyed me. The parallels between Ace's life and relationships with his father figures are done really well. Then Blackbeard comes. Then Whitebeard's death. Then hell breaks and Shanks has to save everything. This was Oda's goal from the beginning and he executed it perfectly.

After the dust settles we go ten years back and we heal with a flashback of Ace, Luffy & Sabo. Like that doesn't end in tragedy, right...

In this volume, Oda concludes the Marineford war; It was an action-packed, fantastic, emotional arc.
What an amazing conclusion to Paradise saga; the first half of the Grand Line. A new era will begin with the second half, the New World.
New threats and challenges that Stawhats must overcome, a Power-up is needed or they won't survive.
Wonderful arc. I can't wait to find out what will they do next.

Ouch! This one hurts! I did not expect this war to end the way it ended. I just don't have the words to talk to how devastated I am. But this was so beautifully written. I am excited for the new era and how things will go in this new era. I also loved the ending showing the background of Luffy and Ace’s friendship/brotherhood. Felt it was a great way to wrap this volume up.

”I'm a worthless man…With the blood of a demon flowing through me… Thank you.. For loving me…”

ace died in luffy's arms.

the death of akainu will be a satisfying one to read.

”Take Ace's brother and go, Jimbei. His life is Ace's living will. We'll protect him in Ace's place. If we let him die, it'll be a disgrace to the Whitebeard pirates.”

teach got more criminals from impel down to follow him.

i've always told “gold d. roger” was his name but it's actually “gol d. roger” and apparently teach has “d” in his name as well.

“one piece is real” whitebeard ignited the belief again. he wasn't after the one piece nor was he after fame. whitebeard just wanted a family and he got his wish. edward newgate died standing up at age 72 after waging a war to get his son back.

blackbeard stole whitebeard's devil fruit. (first the similar name and now this? be original dude) but then again, now blackbeard has 2 powers???

crocodile's a surprisingly good ally??

LAW CAME AROUND!!! SHANKS CAME TOO!! sengoku allowed shanks to take ace and whitebeard away for burial.

— the war has ended —

with whitebeard's death, chaos still ensued in the territories that was once his. innocents were still killed and lands were taken over by other pirates. regardless, there are more problems on the marine's side as well despite their “win.”

many prisoners had escaped impel down and the government is trying to cover it up.

jimbei and law's crew were brought to the isle of women with boa hancock while ivankov left.

luffy's awake and in grief.

backstory on how ace and luffy became friends, and the subsequent friendship with sabo.

One Piece, Vol. 59 continues where the previous tankōbon left off and contains the next eleven chapters (574–584) of the on-going manga series.

This tankōbon concludes the Marineford Arc and begins the next one. Portgas D. Ace dies from his injuries and Monkey D. Luffy is devastated by the loss and the pirates, having failed to rescue him, flee. Whitebeard tries to avenge Ace, but he is killed by Blackbeard and his own crew of Impel Down escapees.

Blackbeard absorbs Whitebeard's ability to create earthquakes and uses it to lay waste to Marine Headquarters. When the battle turns into a battle royale between Blackbeard, the navy, and the retreating pirates, Red-Haired Shanks – Luffy's idol, intervenes and convinces all sides to stop fighting.

As the world comes to grips with all that happened during the war, Hancock takes Luffy back to the island of women to recover. Luffy spends his time there reflecting on how he, Ace, and a boy named Sabo, have come to consider each other brothers despite having completely different backgrounds.

This tankōbon is written and illustrated by Eiichirō Oda. For the most part it is written and constructed rather well. Portgas D. Ace dies from his injuries after protecting Monkey D. Luffy and he does not take his death well. Luffy reminisces about the time he and Portgas D. Ace and another boy named Sabo became brothers.

All in all, One Piece, Vol. 59 is a wonderful continuation to a series that seems really intriguing and I can't wait to read more.

The title of the volume (and first chapter) handily gets reviewers out of any spoiler jam: Luffy's six-volume quest to save his brother ends in failure. As does Whitebeard's three-volume war to rescue his crewmate. The consequences for both of them - and the series' status quo - are enormous. The volume leaves full exploration of those for later, though, concentrating on wrapping up the battle before slipping into an elegiac flashback to Luffy and Ace's boyhood.

The end of Ace's story - and the volume's other big exit - are suitably operatic, and Eiichiro Oda deservedly and unashamedly milks those scenes. (I can only imagine what the reactions to these episodes on publication must have been). But the pace hardly slows - at least until it's flashback time - and the general "end of season" feel is only enhanced by huge moments for characters like Shanks and Coby from the very dawn of the series. Even if the bizarre invention, interplay and good humour that makes One Piece special is mostly on hiatus in this volume, it's also where the series justifies its extraordinary length and epic ambitions.

For me, One Piece is best Manga ever written. The story always touch my heart, it is a combination of faithful friendship, laughter, loyalty and action.
Some people might find this manga as silly and pointless (I’ve heard this before) but they never truly read the Manga and therefore judging it simply from the cover. I’ve been in that position too…and thank God I finally looked beyond the cover and found the greatest adventure any Mangaka ever written.

*cries like shit* I feel like giving this Marine-ford arc and the brothers arc some thoughts. Beforehand, I wasn't really invested when I first read these few volumes. I liked Ace but I focused more on the strawhat crew rather than everyone else, but after re-reading this, I realized these two arcs mean alot to to the series as a whole, the background of Ace, friendship, the definition of justice, the politics and of course determination. Enemies united and fought together for a same goal and the results were still heart-breaking... but this was a crucial stage and a reminder for everyone especially Luffy. Boy, manga really affects people in many different ways. 4.5 stars!

This volume one hell of an eventful volume by far the whole series. It had too much action but they were all really interesting and meaningful. Nothing was unnecessary. And the elements like tragedy, betrayal, loyalty, courage, inhuman treatment, deception, pay back(for better and worse), flashbacks were all perfectly portrayed in this war arc making this volume the best of best. I have lot of feels. One piece finally broke my heart. Congratulations.

While I found Marineford generally too long for my liking and did not care much for Ace until the very end, I can certainly see the reason why so many people regard it as of the top tier arcs in one piece. The conflict and portrayal of power-struggle are superb and I especially love how 'the end of the era' can be felt even by newer fans like me just through the sheer emotion. While I would have preferred more focus on emotional feats of the story instead of constant power-scaling, I would like to revisit this arc later in anime adaptation
