The Mastery #2

Master's Return

Rate this book
Dr. Bob Taylor lies comatose, his consciousness inaccessible to the finest of the Mastery's Trackers, while he and his Guardian seemingly live on as husband and wife in a sleepy English village with their pets, two black dogs with glowing orange eyes-a gift from the powerful and intimidating Colonel Tarbold. Sid Solomon awakens in the Mastery's infirmary with no idea how he escaped the todar. He and his rival, Lin Kuan, now Grand Master, must overcome their mutual distrust in order to locate Taylor and his Guardian on the astral plane before the mysterious Power that has them imprisoned can complete its chilling plan. Tim Wake continues to baffle the Mastery with his uncanny abilities while repelling them from his dreams, aided by seductress Gwen. Despite the Mastery's intrusions, Tim comes to question her motives, leading him to a difficult decision and a confrontation with her secretive Mentor. Master's Return is the sequel to Master's Journey and the second book of The Mastery, a trendsetting new series that trounces conventional genres of Sci-Fi and Fantasy in its fast-paced romp across the astral plane. Dream-shields, alternate realities, the origin of the gods, the nature of time, and the purpose of consciousness itself-all feature prominently in this unique and innovative metaphysical thriller.

I read the first book in record time and launched right into this one. As with the first, it is a page turner. Although this book goes more in depth with the astral plane, constructs, other dimensions. That part did go above my head a little. But overall an excellent read, a true thriller. Fantastic characters, fantastic action. The author is very gifted at taking the reader into realms beyond the physical. I do recommend this book, as well as the first, to anyone who is a fan of metaphysical thrillers, sci-fi, or interested in these types of ideas.

I won this in a goodreads giveaway.

The sequel to "Master's Journey" is proving to be a better, more thought-provoking read. There is great character and plot devleopment

Sid Solomon wakes in January 2029 with no knowledge of how he escaped the Eternal Death. He later learns that the current Grand Master, Lin Kuan, helped him back into his body. Now Sid has to determine whether he can trust Lin...and how far he should do so.

Robert Tyler is a prisoner in his own poisoned mind. He's "married" to Nora, and the Colonel from the first book is there with them. The Colonel tries to seduce Nora and weave his evil ways into Robert's mind. Tim manages to zenze Tyler's mind and can tell that Nora is in danger. Something that Sid and the other Masters have to determine is whether Nora is truly a Guardian or if she's a Power.

Tim learns of Gwen's deceit. I'm very glad that he didn't give in to the evilness of her Mentor, but insteads brings both of them back to 'safety' within the Mastery.

The YhrsH signals and the Fifth's vision play into Sid's future decisions, and those of the Masters. More Powers of various religions are brought into play, but this one focuses more on ALL- Christian and Hindu play larger roles than the Pagan ones (like in the first book).

There is a lot of talk of the astral, and otherworldly phenomena. I find it all to be fascinating, interesting, and a fun thing to read. Master Thomas is a cool guy! Tim's natural abilities grow.

I love that Cheryl believes that no one deserves the Eternal Death, not even an evil being

Master Thomas learns what the dark Aeons have in store for the world...and the astral.

I am uncertain if the series is at an end. It feels like the end of "Harry Potter" - if it's done then it's an 'okay' done. There are things left to be done, and all is certainly not well, but it's a fairly content ending. However, if it's not, there is a lot of story to be told.

Wonderful. After getting caught up with a new job it was a delight to have the works of Simon Seth Reede in my hands. Fantastic writing style and great story-lines. Compelling and intriguing. A book I will read again and again. I had the pleasure of reading both Master's Journey and Master's Return and I simply do not have enough wonderful and profound words to describe just how much I enjoyed reading these two books. Thank you so much to the author for your patience and all of the hard work you have put into your writing. It shows.

The sequel to "Master's Journey", "Master's Return" is every bit as intriguing and thought provoking as Master's Journey" was. There were a few slow places in the center of the book, but the need for the content of these areas became clear as the rest of the story unfolded. A well-written sci-fi, fantasy, metaphysical novel. I hope to be included in the Mastery's future adventures.

Even better than the first book. Sid Solomon must save Dr. Taylor and his guardian from an evil entity and save the current time stream. Somehow Tim Wake plays a big part in transversing a black hole which is the secret to it all.
