Sentinals #6

Sentinals Destiny

Rate this book
Birlerion’s leave of absence expires, it’s time for him to return to work. Before he has time to sit behind his desk, or discover the source of the brooding threat that is hovering over him, he is sent off to Terolia to negotiate with the families for a bride. The succession must be protected and it’s time for Anders to marry.

As he travels through the deserts, he realises that it is the Veil that is hunting him, and it wants his blood. But no one will listen to his concerns about the Veil. The healers believe he is struggling to adjust after his recent traumas. Their arguments are persuasive and overrule saner minds.

Betrayed by those he loves, driven by an oath invoked by the king, and with only Jaredion and Leyarille to protect him, Birlerion goes on the run across Vespiri, Terolia and into the islands of Birtoli, the home of the Oath. If he doesn’t discover a way to stop the Veil from killing him, it will not only be his life that is lost, it will be all of Remargaren that is destroyed.

Book six of the Sentinals Series, Sentinals Destiny, is the final book in the saga of Remargaren, a vibrant, ancient world of high fantasy suffused with magic and adventure.

Sentinals Destiny

I was sent an ARC for this book by the author (thank you) and this is my honest reveiw.

It starts almost directly after book 5 has finished and Birlerion is still recovering from his injuries and trauma he was subjected to. He slowly returns to work and is sent to Terolia to find King Anders a new wife and help secure the future of his kingdom.

However the Veil still plagues Birlerion and he comes to fear that it is hunting him. Everyone believes he is suffering from trauma related anxiety and very few people believe and support him. He finds himself on the run from the very people he once trusted.

What an absolutely epic finale to the Sentinals Series. I wasn't sure where Helen would go with this. It was unexpected, dramatic, and non-stop action packed taking you to all your favourite places in Remargaren.

There was a lot of lore involved it this one and history with the veil and how it works but you don't get bogged down or lost in the explanations it drove my interest and intrigue. Such turmoil for Birlerion as people distrust him, and characters you wouldn't expect either. That was hard reading as I just wanted to give them a good shake and scream, "what are you doing???". I liked the arena part of the book, obviously not the experience for Birlerion, but it was a very interesting part, it felt very epic.

I love how the series started with Jerrol and everything that he was able to do and offer the people of Remargaren. But the series has moved on and Birlerion has become more then just Jerrol's shadow and shield. I'm glad that there will be more of him in future books and how he copes with his new role.

Leyarille was such a strong role in this as well standing up to so many people even her own father. She fought for what she believed and trusted and such a support for Birlerion. It was good to see her develop in the last two books.

I've followed this series for the last three years and I'm sad that this part of it will end. I'm so happy that there will be a prequel and also other stories set in this world. It's a world high on the list of book worlds to visit. I would struggle to pick which place to visit first though!

Sentinals Destiny

I received an ARC copy of this book, and I am leaving an honest review.

In this final chapter of the Sentinals Saga, Helen Garraway, takes us full circle through everything that has passed. It has been a remarkable journey that she has taken us through, I for one feel sorry that it has come to its close.

These books are so unique in their content, her characters so vibrant and real, that you go through every emotion with them, even the villains; of which there are a few. In Sentinals Destiny we learn the truth about many things that have passed through the pages of the other books. It centres on my most beloved of all characters ‘Birlerion’ who was the first sentinel to be awakened, and was instrumental, and at the heart of the last days before The Lady Leyandrii’s sundering of the bloodstone, and bringing down the veil over the world of Remagaren to save it from evil. During this epic story, he has paid a heavy price for his loyalty, far greater than any other character you will encounter within these books. It is only fitting that he should feature in the close, and what a close….. Here we see him fight his last battle, but this time, not with adversaries, but with the veil itself.

Jerrol, his most trusted friend, the one who woke him from his sentinal all those years ago, refuses to believe what Birlerion is trying to tell him, leading to disastrous consequences, for when he realises his mistake, it is too late. Only two people shield Birlerion from this onslaught, Leyarille, Jerrol’s daughter and her cousin Jaredion.

These books are outstanding, both in the written word and the storyline, and so worthy of the awards and accolades they have been given. Although the end of this last one will greatly surprise you, as it did me, but what a satisfying ending. Helen Garraway, to my mind, has left a small chink of an opening, for maybe a new series?

This is an epic tale of love, loyalty and betrayal, with a tumultuous ending to an unforgettable series.

(I received this copy for the ARC group, so I got to read it early. Eat your hearts out.)

"Sentinals Destiny" follows Sentinal Birlerion as he learns his destiny. What begins with nightmares progresses and his Captain Jerrol, out of concern for his safety, separates him from the two people who best protect him: Leyarille and Jaredion. He is also torn by two different commands: a public one from his Captain and a private one from the King. Which takes priority and how can he get both done in their timeframes while separated from those who can protect him?

The action never stops; awake or asleep Birlerion is busy. This book ends the Sentinal Series wonderfully.

The Sentinels series is one of the most exciting, action-packed, and multi-faceted fantasy series I have ever read. The author is a master at world-building and creating characters of depth and complexity. I thought the series was at an end after the Ascendants were defeated in Sentinels Justice (book 3), but the saga of Remargaren and her champions continued. This book is the exciting continuation of Birlerion's story, and provides a magnificent conclusion to the saga.

I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving this honest review.

Just WOW!

This multi volume series is one of the best I've ever read. The best part is thst it truly ends, unlike many I'm still reading that cintinue the story until youve forgotten the original story line.

Ms. Garraway has a wonderful grasp on her universe, her magic, and especially her very deep and complex characters.

If you've never read any of her stuff, you're definitely missing out!

New world spanning opera, with a little magic

I thought I'd read all the types of fantasy and the Sentinel series comes along. Great characters that grow through the years. Final book a clean finish. Future adventures with next generation opens all types of doors. Like McCaffery's "Pern" and Patricia kennalty Morrison " Keltia". I'm glad to have found Remargarin and all it's drama. Keep up the good work

Another amazing book that shouldn’t be missed. Anders needs to get married and is definitely searching. There seems to be a danger following him, but no one is taking it seriously He has to fix this first as it’s extremely dangerous. Outstanding.

Beware of spoilers. This was a very good read. Some of the back and forth with the main characters did not quite ring true. But, maybe that was intended, probably was. We also did not get a final conclusion with some of the key characters, just this time with the wrap-up of the Sentinals Series.

Excellent!! What a grand book to finish this series with. I really enjoyed it. I was very impressed with this story from the first book to the last. I was happy to read that Helen is going to use some of the same characters in a new series... I can't wait.

What an epic book! Birlerion isn't really back in his office yet and is still suffering from his trauma when Jerrol sends him to find a bride for Anders. At the same time, Anders summons the Oath and gives him the task of bringing it to him by the end of the year. From then on, Birlerion must fight constantly, even in his sleep, and only Leyarille and Jerodion can help him, while his most trusted friends distrust his concerns and worries. Will Birlerion and his two young supporters be strong enough and his old friends be able to see past this latest trauma? A fantasy story full of action and suspense that sometimes makes you want to shout at the characters and ask if they mean business... Helen Garraway has (once again) created a captivating book with eloquent imagery
