Regardless of one's stance, Michael Moore's impact on global politics and filmmaking is undeniable. From his humble beginnings as a Flint autoworker's son, he's transformed liberal politics and pioneered a distinctive political filmmaking style. Long before his Academy Awards controversy, Moore was challenging everyone from corporate giants to his peers. 'Michael Moore' by Emily Schultz, the first biography, chronicles his journey from a shy Eagle Scout to a vocal Bush critic, without bias.
Emily Schultz is the co-founder of Joyland Magazine. Her newest novel, Little Threats, is forthcoming from GP Putnam's Sons for November 2020. Her novel, The Blondes, released in the U.S. with St. Martin’s Press and Picador, in France with Editions Asphalte, and in Canada with Doubleday. It was named a Best Book of 2015 by NPR and Kirkus. I’m a big fan of documentaries and I’ve watched a number of Michael Moore’s films. The book left me wanting more no pun intended. I felt that too much was spent talking about some of of the comedy and later sided works with Jon Candy for example versus going into details of more of his documentaries andinvestigative stories
I skimmed a lot of this because it covered a lot of stuff that I'd never had the opportunity to see before (the TV show, The Big One, ect). With that said, though I really enjoyed it. I only wished it covered more of his life.
