Courtney Will always dreamed of finding her Prince Charming and living happily ever after, like in the fairy tales she read as a child. Her dreams were shattered one fateful night when her prince turned out to be her worst nightmare. Burying herself in her job as an editor, Courtney tried to forget her past, and she lost hope of ever finding true love.
Reed Moore’s past filled his world with guilt and anger, and then a mistake in college deepened these feelings. Fearing he will one day repeat his father’s mistakes with the woman he loves, Reed has vowed to never give his heart to anyone
Reed and Courtney have each spent years building walls to guard their hearts, so when their feelings for one another explode into something unexpected, they argue and throw hurtful words at each other in hopes of avoiding the truth.
Will Reed end up being the Prince Charming Courtney has dreamed of her entire life? Is Courtney the woman who will help Reed move past the guilt and anger, so he can embrace love?
Can their broken dreams become their happily ever after?

No, absolutely no. This book was just like her other books. I loved them at first, until I realized it the same thing over AND OVER AND OVER again. With a bunch of whiney characters. And could they have sex like 600 more times in this book? I basically skipped 1/2 the book because it was sex scenes. I like sex just like the next girl, but ease up give me some plot or action. I felt like it had potential to be good, but it fell way flat for me. I don't think I'll read any more of this series.
I am torn between 2 and 3 stars for this book. Again the story is promising. But the wording is very rough and repeative. Very desperate needs of better editing. And the sex... it was hot. But too much. Just too much and almost 80% of the book is filled with it.
I give 3 stars to credit the story. Its just a pity does not develop very well.
I really wasted my time on this one. I'm going to try not to rant because I'm a writer as well and I know how delicate we can be.
I've read this authors work in the past and her writing has not improved. It's completely immature writing, what i'd expect to read from a teenager or something. lots of telling rather than showing.
I didn't feel the emotions with the characters because it was just a story being told, there was no feeling, no sense, barely any imagery going on. Lots of "we all ran up and did this."
And what is this... "Shit on a brick. My breast is so tender." Ok, moving on.
I struggled through 80% of this book it was so incredibly hard to stomach and so damn repetitive.
Kelly Elliott is becoming a must-read author for me. She wrote a really good romance for two deserving characters. Broken Dreams is the second in this series and it was an absolute delight to finish a well written, emotionally driven story. Reed Moore and Courtney Will both had a past to overcome, filled with hurt and abuse. A little finagling from their friends had them both house sitting together and made them realized that maybe they could take a chance on each other. Lucky for us that Ms. Elliott gave them a good story that had me laughing, crying, and sighing throughout. I could not be more satisfied for their happy ending.
Both Reed and Courtney were introduced in the previous book and I would have to say that they did NOT get along at all. However things changed when Courtney’s boyfriend cheated on her and Reed’s relationship was going somewhere he didn’t want it to go. Both of them were unhappy and after they finally cleared the air between them, they decided to start fresh and hope that their attraction could lead to something lasting.
Thankfully Reed had goals and he set his mind to make them come true. For the first time in Courtney’s life she was swept off her feet by a man who could rival one of her romance book characters she loves to read. She could face anything as long as she had Reed with her. Their love making and declarations of love made the story what it is; a romance full of heat, acts of selflessness, and devotion.
The story would not have been complete without the interaction of Whitley and Layton, their very good friends. The girl’s witty banter and potty mouths were constantly getting them in trouble, which made for some very funny scenes. In addition, their competitiveness on public sex just had me chuckling and my hubby wondering what was making me laugh. Oh, to be young and in love! Both characters had issues that needed to be addressed and thankfully Ms. Elliott gave them good conclusions to their past hurts. When the author added music to the story I just knew what she was trying to convey at that moment. When you add a prologue to boot, I got everything I want in a romance novel. Thank you Ms. Elliott from the bottom of my heart for Broken Dreams. I can’t wait for Walker and Taylor’s story, Broken Promises, next year.
Ashley 4 STARS
Kelly Elliott delivers another sweet story of love in Broken Dreams. For those who have read Book 1 Broken, Broken Dreams picks up right where it ended with Courtney and Reed’s story. What I enjoy about Kelly’s books is that her heroes are definitely alpha’s but extrremely sensitive and romantic. Reed quickly realizes that Courtney is the woman of his dreams and he will do what he has to in order for her to know it. Readers will enjoy how Reed tries to make Courtney “swoon”. In Broken, I didn’t connect with Courtney and felt she was immature.
This opinion stayed during the first half of Broken Dreams. I wanted to smack her a few times for “getting in her own way” with Reed. By the second half of the book, I geniunely felt for her and her struggles along the way to Reed.
Overall, a sweet not too angsty love story with a great ending. The bonus scene was wonderful and the series will continue with the next generation of the characters in Broken and Broken Dreams. I can’t wait for that installment.
In the past I have stated how much I love Kelly Elliott's books and was really looking forward to reading this book. Sadly when I reached 20% into the book I already did not like it and found it painful to read the rest. The book was sadly a snooze fest! If you like books which just talk about how much they love each other and have sex twenty million times then this is a book for you. I felt that it lacked a story! It tried to add some drama at the beginnings with the characters scared they were going to lose the other over events in their live that not even break up worthy anyway!
There is no moment in this book where you even want the two to get together because there is never that moment where you connect with the two characters. Finally the book is the same as all her other books. Texas cowboy finds the girl of his dreams and gushed about it on every page there after. Come on Kelly Elliott give us something different with the next book!
Damn this author for writing truly terrible books that somehow trap me anyways. I rolled my eyes so far back in my head from the cheese factor i think at one point they just went all the way around. Since by and large id be writing the exact same review im going to deviate from my normal review formula and just write the things i either forgot to write in the first review or things that deserve mentioning in this one. 1) Just because you can curse doesnt mean you have to or even that you should. And if you cant do it without sounding like a middle school who just learned all the naughty words maybe you should skip it. 2) O...M...G....the repetition! i know i mentioned this in the last review but seriously its by and large the exact same book with only fairly minor changes...even the dialogue is pretty much identical. There was less winking in this one...but more pouring into. And you dont need to say i love you or baby in every sentence come on! 3) The heroines past was more developed and helped me understand her actions in the last book. The heros past made me wonder why it existed because it was nothing special enough to explain why he was such a dick in the first book. 4) How in the world do these people not get sperm everywhere? They have sex all over the place, they never use a condom, and yet theres only ONE cleanup scene. Ick...just ick if you ask me. Also how do these people live lives or walk normally with all the freaking sex they have? 5) Why are the mean so emotional? More emotional then the women! 6) Dude seriously having a woman call her friend a cunt? not cool! Its bad enough that there are still men who think its ok to use that language but to trivialize it like that? Seriously. 7) At all times this book alternates between sounding like something a teenager wrote and something a scientist wrote. When reading the sex scenes in my head i couldnt help but giggle because no matter which way you read it theyre funny. Either its gushing and over the top or its a monotonous dry read of material thats supposed to be sexy. 8) Even after all that I still somehow want to read the next book! What is this witchcraft?! Thank god by the time it comes out i will have forgotten about it. These books were good for a laugh...though a solid portion of my laughs came from the cheese factor rather than funny scenes but hey apparently it worked.
I loved Courtney & her sassiness in Broken so I'm glad that I got to hear her story in Broken Dreams. The only thing that throws me off is that once these couples finally get to the whole "I love you" everything from then on is all hearts & flowers sappiness ... it's all good though cause there are some pretty hilarious moments that I just couldn't help but laugh out loud. And it also has to be said that Reed DID have some serious "swoon-worthy" moments. Anyhoo, I'm off to read The Marriage Bargain to see if Nick lives up to all his swoon-worthy hype I've been reading about :)
As always (with Kelly Elliott) I loved the plot and even the characters but the writing???? That kind of ruined everything for me! So immature! Love isn't only about sex you know? No, apparently, for some weird reason, this writer didn't know. Apparently she thought, that involving so much sex in a story was necessary to make it more...interesting? I think half the book was made out of sex. I can't even begin to tell you how maddening and how annoyingly frustrating that was...
Kelly Elliott ... seriously woman? I'll be mailing yet ANOTHER dentist bill to you, the amount of cavities I get from devouring your books! I was REALLY looking forward to reed moore of this series (HA.. I had too, A+ solely for those brilliant names). While reading the first book I was so frusturated with Court and Reed, like just get TOGETHER and work out your sh*t. Let me just say I was NOT disapointed on how everything turned out. Courtney is quite a relatable character; she loves too reed, searching for her Prince Charming, and is waiting for her HEA. Reed on the other hand like Nick from The Marriage BargainJennifer Probst is an amazing book boyfriend and so very swoonworthy! This book picks up from the last, Courtney and Reed have to house sit for Layton and Whitley. They've denied their feelings for sooo long and perhaps the three weeks will FINALLY make them realize they belong with another...
So the next one is coming out in JANUARY 2015... WHY KELLY WHY?
Unappealing blurb: heart wall builders 🙄🙄🙄 And bickering because can’t admit love for each other, double 🙄🙄🙄🙄. I won’t even read reviews. Maybe I will to see if they’re funny as the ones for 1st book. If so I will link then here
Wow - highly emotional and a beautifully written story. Courtney and Reed instantly have an attraction for each other but at the same time tend to rub each other the wrong way. But their hate turns to love when Courtney's walls come down. Finally she they both see exactly what everyone else has seen from the beginning. What takes this story to a different level is the absolute no holds barred love that Reed shows Courtney with every single one of his actions. He is the perfect Prince Charming. This is a must read book that will lead the reader to a book they will read and re-read over and over again.
I vaguely remember the story about Reed and Court, but the one thing that made me realize that the characters from book 1 is the same in this book was...when Reed said Layton to fire Mitch coz Mitch has been in contact with Layton's father..
The downside of stories that started in a different book is that, I don't friggin remember much! The characters were apologizing for hurting each other but I don't even remember what they've done to each other!!! There's no way in hell am I going to re-read a book just to get a glimpse of what happened to them.
I don't know what changed coz I love Kelly Elliott's novels but now, I find her novels like A FOREVER LOVE & BROKEN DREAMS too cheezy, the guys were too romantic in a nauseating way which was okay in WANTED series, but to always have that same male characteristic is getting boring..
UUUGGGGHHHH....maybe my taste in reading has changed since 2013, when I read the first book in this series or maybe this book just wasn't' for me. My first problem was, I didn't remember shit from book one so I spent most of the read being completely lost. None of the characters or their story line rang even a bell. Second, I hate over the top, nothing but I love you, types of stories. Maybe book lone was the same, maybe it wasn't, please see the above comment because apparently I can't remember shit from that book. There is an audience out there for one dimensional character and weak romance stories. Unfortunately I'm not that reader.
I liked this book. Though I loved the first one better. I was too fond of Courtney. She was very needy and a bit selfish. I thought Reed was a very sexy man. And I loved that he felt such emotions to cry so often.
Okay, so I had marked this as dnf, but since it’s an audiobook, I ended up listening to it after all. I liked the story and the characters well enough. What didn’t work for was the author kept going on after the story should have ended. Plus there was just too many sexual scenes fir my taste. Other readers may love that, just not me. Happy reading/listening!
Why does my Prince Charming keep turning out to be nothing but a monster?
We met Courtney (Whitley's friend) and Reed (Layton's friend) in Broken. In my previous review I called it an "Anti-relationship". They had an immediate reaction to each other and it was often not a positive one. They fought, fussed, resisted, denied, and hurt each other. They were both so stubborn and their communication was completely ineffective and often times painful. Courtney had up big walls and had huge trust issues. She dreamed of perfect book boyfriends, but her past had shown her that those types of men do not really exist. She pushed Reed away knowing he could get to her and cause intense reactions in her. And in trying for another option, she not only pushed him away further but also found herself hurt again. Reed also had issues from his past that caused him to shut down, be insecure, and avoid real feelings.
They were a complete mess. Their dreams were subdued by demons of their past. They were afraid of getting close and hurt. The past, their fears, and other people kept them apart and from admitting their true feelings for a long time.
But when Layton and Whitley went on their honeymoon, they forced their friends to deal with each other finally. So they had no choice but to face their feelings, fears, insecurities and try to figure out what they really wanted and needed.
I have been rooting for these two all along. I loved their fiery interactions as well as their sweet ones. I loved seeing them grow and change individually and together. Once they opened up, it was a whole new world of discovery for them. Reed could be so endearing and swoon worthy. He really tried hard to be who she needed. And Court was strong willed and sassy, but sweet under her armor. Once they let go, they had hot chemistry and passion. And once they got under each other's layers they were understanding, supportive, and surprisingly functional.
"Reed, our dreams are no longer broken, not when we have this kind of love together."
"No more dark roads and broken dreams, angel. Only sunlit roads and dreams coming true from this point on."
Their relationships and the love they share with their best friends was really special. They stand together when needed, swap secrets, and push each other when necessary. I enjoyed seeing Layton and Whitley's happy story continue. I admit that at times I was thinking that this was a much happier book than Broken. Reed and Court could be so sweet and loving that is almost seemed like too much happiness and not enough drama. But then I realized that Reed and Courtney had so many misunderstandings and bad times in Broken, that they deserved to have some happiness and easy times. But of course, there was also some drama, twists, and past issues causing tension and adding to their fears and insecurities. And there were new challenges and changes for both of the couples to face. But all in all, this was a sweet, funny, engaging read with likable characters, strong ties, and deep connections.
Kelly Elliott creates these characters and communities that suck you in and make you feel like you know them. You feel their sadness, pain, and joy. You become invested in their outcomes. I loved the sneak peek into the next book Broken Promises and I cannot wait for their story and more in the future with these characters.
Thanks to Kelly Elliott for providing me with a complimentary copy in exchange for an honest review. Will be posted at Reviews by Tammy and Kim.
I read Broken and I thought: OK, that was nice, relaxing, easy reading, let's give a try to Broken dreams .... not Ok, I finished reading this one more because I have pushed myself to do it but ..... God .... please... can you stop with the "I love you"s. I admit - it's nice the story is cute but 80% of this book is "I love you" "I love you too". I love love stories but this one was too much ... It's like if you eat too much sweets you get diabetes - this was definitely a love story diabetes for me. Oh, and the sex, God, is it just me or Court was made to look kind of nympho "I need you inside me" all the time
I was so excited to read about Courtney and Reed because well, Court was pretty bad ass and funny in Broken but I was disappointed reading this book. There were a few scenes where you saw the Courtney from Broken but for the most part it was too sappy sweet with a bunch of sex and so many "I'm gonna comes" thrown in that I just rolled my eyes. It reminded me of Cherished with all the "I love you so much" and "I never want to hurt you" that when the actual drama hit, it didn't even faze me b/c I knew there was going to be some sex and I love yous coming hence . The book was ok until they started having sex then it was just too much especially Once again there was potential for a really great story but it got lost in too much sex and super sappy sweet love. Sadly, this one just didn't do it for me.
I'm a Kelly Elliott fan it's true and I am yet to read something of hers that I haven't completely enjoyed.
Broken Dreams sees Courtney and Reed, who met in Broken, stuck house sitting together for Whitley and Layton while they are on their honeymoon. We immediately get the aftermath of Courtney hearing her boyfriend cheating on her and I loved how Reed came to Courtney's defence.
Courtney is still the sassy, strong and independent girl with a troubled past and Reed who has been in love with her since they met shows he is the sexy, romantic and swoon worthy, plant loving prince charming she has been waiting for.
There was a lot of hot sex in their story, some angst and romance and I found myself laughing out loud many times at the interactions between the characters.
I loved getting to see more of Whitley and Layton and the banter between Courtney and Whitley, while sometimes full of potty mouthed inappropriateness had me laughing and enjoying their relationship.
I thought that the story flowed with ease in the usual Kelly Elliott style and I enjoyed every minute of it. I'm really looking forward to their kids story and their future.
Loved this! Possibly more than I loved Broken. I couldn't wait to see Reed and Courtney's story in Layton and Whitley's, and now that I've read it? PERFECTION!
I was a little worried midway through the book when everything seemed to be happening so fast for them. The marriage and the pregnancy, but they managed to work through everything together. I wasn't sure why but I kept getting this niggling feeling that Reed was going to do something really stupid and cheat on her, especially in the moments when she shut him out. But he didn't. He stayed true to his love for her. THEY stayed true to their love for each other and it was the perfect story.
I'm not too keen on her other stories, I'm not sure why, I just think they're harder to read and focus on when the POV keeps switching. She needs to stick to the main characters pov as it is THEIR story. The other characters will get their shot, so they really don't need to be in the others stories as much.
BUT, I adore Broken and Broken Dreams! And I can't wait for Taylor and Walker's story!
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I'm sorry to say that this was my first try at reading romance novels, and I'm now a bit gun shy. The first book was tolerable, but this literally had me gagging out loud.
Too many cheesy (and gross) sex scenes, and poorly written characters. The men didn't talk to each other realistically at all, and everything was resolved too easily and two fast.
Spoiler alert:
So, the main character is confronted by her rapist at her brother's wedding, is attacked by him and spends the whole time crying for her husband. Her husband instinctively knows that she needs him and that she is being attacked with zero evidence, and runs across an enormous house to get to her and save her. Then, it turns out the bride was also raped by the same dude and the wedding is ruined, because all of the women are too hysterical to pick themselves up off the floor. The attacker may or may not be arrested (it's pretty nebulous.) Then HOURS LATER, they are all playing laser tag like nothing happened... Uhm. No. (This also happened over a span of about ten pages. The rest of the book is gag-worthy sex scenes.)
I just could not get on board with this book. I made it to 60% and had to push myself there. I just do not understand how anyone enjoyed this book. The " I love you" , " I will do anything to make you happy" and " i cant live without you" lines every two minutes was sickening. I am sorry, it just was not realistic. The connection was not formed for the reader.I read book 1 so I knew a little back history, but even then it was not enough. Kelly really needed to build the characters more and develop their bond and relationship for us. I just did not feel a connection. The story line was cute, some parts where ok, but really the ball was dropped with this one. I am most surprised that people actually enjoyed this mush fest!
I love to read. Any genre! However this love story was like reading about high school kids. I get it they love each other but it seems like the constant I love yous were due to lack of a scene closing. The sex was just over the top. I love a hot sex scene but these scenes were just unrealistic and over the top. No one wants sex during labor, nor 3 days after the birth. This book and the first book had some strong potential if the focus would have been on the story itself and less of a sex and I love you marathon. I can't bring myself to finish this series. I will look for a recent book of the authors and see if the writing is better. I will read reviews first.
Courtney, the worldly freelance editor has a secret that gives her night terrors. However, once she's in a trusting relationship she shares & her sensual side is released with a bang.
Reed fears he's like his father, not worthy of the blue eyed beauty so he mouths off about her, argues & forces her into the arms of another.
Both are on a journey to realise their own worth, trust their own hearts & trust in their partner's.
For me this one was just ok. for me. I had some difficulty getting into it due to its repetitiveness. I'm not a big fan of the hero crying ALL the time. Something was missing and the characters were missing a certain spark. Overall, is was fair read.
