Each week on Recipe Rehab, two celebrity chefs face off in a competition to transform a family's beloved (but not-so-healthy) recipe into a healthier dish, slashing fat and calories without sacrificing flavor. Now those chefs—including Spike Mendelsohn, Aida Mollenkamp, and Candice Kumai—have teamed up to show you how to make these delicious meals in your own kitchen.
Start the day off right with a Grab-and-Go Bagel and Lox Sandwich, Fully Loaded Breakfast Burrito, or light Lemon Poppy Seed Muffin. Satisfy your fast-food cravings with Nachos Supreme, Big Island Burgers, and Crispy Beef Tacos. Whip together a weeknight meal in 30 minutes with Orange Chicken, Mexican Pizza, or Miso Salmon. Feed a crowd with a simmering pot of Turkey Chili, Beef Burgundy Stew, or Barley Risotto with Fennel and Radicchio. Indulge your sweet tooth guilt-free with Strawberry Cheesecake, Lighter Lemon Bars, or Nearly No-Fat Brownies. With 80 recipes and helpful cooking tips from your favorite chefs, you'll discover new ways to reinvent your weeknight routine and rehab the meals your family loves.
I love the show but I could not find the winning recipes online so I thought perhaps they might be tucked away inside this 161 page cookbook and I was correct. I was so excited to get my hands on this baby and the variety inside is quite impressive. Like most cookbooks it is sectioned off by breakfast, dinner, simple starters, lightened-up carbs, family favorites, classic desserts, and quick chicken. Each recipe has a picture of the chef who remade the dish and notes on how they revamped it. Servings, portion size, nutritional information like you see on the show is also shown below the recipe (calories, fat, sodium, protein, fiber and carbs). There are also some chef's tip thrown in throughout the book and some Rehab tips which give the cook in each of us, something to think about as we prepare the recipes they supply. There is an index at the back which is very helpful if you are looking for something specific. I was looking for the Unfried Chicken with Spicy Slaw and the Turkey and Cheese Enchiladas which I found. I also came across the Makeover Mac & Cheese with cauliflower, Herbed Chicken Parmesan, Better-Than-Takeout Orange Chicken, and the Nachos Supreme. I only wished that they would have included more recipes in the book and that they would have included more photos of the recipes in the book. I looked at a couple random sections in the cookbook and in one section there was 9 pictures of the 15 recipes they supplied and in another section there were 6 pictures out of 13 recipes in that section. I don't expect full page pictures of all the recipes but a small photo of the dish would tempt me further to attempt that recipe rather than just skim over the title and the ingredients list.
