The Definition of the "It Was Ok" GR 2 Star

This book can be described in one word:

description

Just being honest.

Although, perhaps I can take partial blame for this being that it was book three in a series and, not knowing that for some reason, I had not read books one and/or two.

But either way, I just didn't feel the connection between the H and the h.

It was hardcore insta-love - which usually works for me in mate/boding scenarios such as the one occurring in this book - for some reason it feel flat for me here.

The premise for this story/series is really interesting and the writing was great.

It just didn't grab me at ALL.

Which is weird, because I usually DIG PNR/Mate-bonding books.

DIG.

Oh well, can't win them all.

Lisa Renee Jones continues her exciting and unique Zodius series with The Danger that is Damion; an action packed thrill-ride that will capture your heart, heat you up and keep you turning the pages!

The Danger that is Damion starts out with a bang with Lara Martin, an elite soldier from an all-women Zodius team. Mysterious, dangerous, and sexy; she is on a mission of revenge seeking those who destroyed her family and taking them down. But when it comes down to the wire Lara can’t pull the trigger, something isn’t right and it’s not just the instant attraction she feels for the enemy Renegade soldier in her way, Damion Browne.
Damion makes Lara question everything she believes in but how can she trust him when she can’t even trust herself? With parts of her memories missing and others that seem fabricated, Lara doesn’t know where to turn so she follows her feelings and instinct which lead back to Damion. But Damion is the epitome of the perfect soldier, always following the rules and his commander’s orders. For some reason though, Lara makes him want to break every rule in the book and when it comes to Lara’s safety he will. Passion ignites and desire flares between these two as danger surrounds them on all fronts. Damion and Lara are strong apart but together, they are unstoppable.

LRJ blends action and romance together seamlessly; I loved Damion and Lara’s story! They balanced each other out perfectly. The characters jumped from the pages and I can’t wait to see where this series takes us next!

I would recommend reading this series in order, though I did start out reading it out-of-order. But the first book, The Legend of Michael, provides a huge amount of background information on the Zodius, Renegades, ect. I think if you’re new to the series that you’ll enjoy these more by starting at the beginning, it's a great fantasy romance series that you won't want to miss!

This is the third book in this series that I have read. I have also read the two Underground Guardian stories that were the original books that this series is based on. Like the others, I loved it. I knew that I would not be disappointed with Damion’s story. Damion was the kind of character that I love as the hero when I’m reading. He is a wonderful straight forward man whose life has had setbacks and tragedy. Although his life was tough Damion still finds it inside himself to let certain people in and not be really bitter and nasty. Kayla was a little harder to embrace but in her defense her attitude is based on what someone else wants her to believe. As the book progressed I started to have hope for her happy ending as well.

I find that one of the reasons I like to read series is because I get glimpses of the characters whose stories I’ve read before. I get to see them grow and evolve. It is also an opportunity to see characters I’ve gotten small glimpses of before take center stage and let me see deeper inside them. It makes the actions I remember from other books really come to life. I get a clearer understanding of why they behaved in a particular way with someone else. I could not wait to get my hands on this book. I thoroughly enjoy the emotions I experience reading Lisa’s stories. I laugh, smile, get angry, and bite my lip and worry. I always feel involved in her stories like I am really inside the characters head and can see things the way they are interpreting the events. The personalities are so real to me that I can almost anticipate how they will react to a situation. But even getting a good feel for the way they behave, I do love it when I am surprised by something I didn’t expect. Whether it is with a sarcastic remark, a look or their passion I can understand the feelings and thoughts of the characters. I can almost see the chest puff up, eyes roll, body tension or the hint of the grin. Lisa Renee Jones is on my auto buy list. The only thing that upsets me about having finished reading Damion’s story is that now I have to wait and wait until the next one comes out. So sad.

This is my second read of this book.. I loved this book the 1st time around and I am half way my second read and still loving Damion....

Review:

Lara is a woman on a mission, a mission to kill those who have hurt her and her family. But when Lara gets the chance she can’t pull the trigger. Something about this mission doesn’t feel right. Now Lara has drawn the attention of one of the Renegades. Not just any Renegade, Damion Browne.
What Lara learns from Damion, will make her questions everything she thinks, knows and feels. Lara now has to trust the people she has long hated. But how can she trust them when she can’t trust herself.
Damion never breaks the rules. NEVER!!! He is a by-the-book kind of guy, but the minute he sees Lara the rule book gets thrown out the window. Damion doesn’t know why yet but he is drawn to Lara, and is willing to do anything, sacrifice anything, and most of all break any rules to keep her safe and with him.
I loved Damion & Lara together. They are both so stubborn and hard headed but perfect for each other. Both think that they can handle anything on their own, but soon learn they are much better as a team. I so love this series. I can’t wait to see where Lisa takes us next.

Damion a super solider for the renegades is on a mission to protect a scientist, but he sees a beauty in a white 2 piece with long legs which distracts him. He is drawn to her like a magnet and wonder why because he is never distracted he about honor and code and his mission for the renegades. As he locked eyes with this beauty she is mesmerizing and dangerous all in one and something tells him to watch her.

Lara Martin is now part of a female super solider program that General Powell has brainwashed. Lara is powerful and lethal and now she on the radar of this G-Tech renegade. Lara hates all G-Tech's and will kill them all because revenge is running through her veins, G-Tech's killed her family and now she wanted them all dead.

Now Lara is starting to have visions of the past and she trying to put it together so the man she hates which she believes is evil is now her savior and now Lara is torn between hating him and learning he not the man she was told the renegades were. Does she trust her enemy or lean on him for the answers she needs.

I started following this series years ago when Lisa started it at another publisher. I totally LOVE what she's done with it. This installment was so COOL! I don't want to give any secrets away but she did something with the main characters that was really unexpected. Kind of like when I made my jaguar shifter a chick instead of a guy (hint hint).

Anyway, Lisa recently told me that Chale will have his own book and all I can say is...WRITE FASTER WOMAN!!

Love this series, but please tell me this isn't the last book. This book is a 5 star read, but because it is the end of the series w/out answers, I could only give it 3 stars. I loved all 4 books in Zoidus, but I wouldn't have started them if I had known there wasn't really a closing to the story. Lisa Renee Jones is an incredible author and I love all the books of hers that I've read, but am sad this series didn't continue.

I want more!!! Love Lisa writing big fan.

Great story!!! Would like a conclusion or resolution to Adam , Powell and the other bad villains of the story that she's made so far. It would be nice to see some other Renegades characters find their ending. Also more people finding their lifebond. Big fan of Lisa and I really hope she does finish this series up because it's amazing. Along with her other books.

Great book.

I really enjoyed this book like I did the others. I think I'm past the characters denying their relationship so I gave the book 5 stars. The storyline was great. I loved the characters. I'd really like to read more. I'm curious why Caleb doesn't have a book. I'm not sure if the author will write more. It seems odd though that there is no resolution to Adam or Powell. And the renegades still have Dorian so there's no resolution there either. Anyway, this series is definitely an intriguing one to read.

Contemporary Paranormal

Lara Martin was created to be one of the first female GTECH soldiers. She is trained to go after and kill both the Zodius and the Renegades GTECHs. Lara is determined to get her vengeance against the other GTECHs after she has been told they are behind the deaths of her family. Now she just has to find a way to do her mission so that she can defeat the Zodius and Renegades. What she doesn’t count on is her attraction to Damion and what she is sure is a betrayal of her family but things are starting to look like she doesn’t know the whole truth and now the question becomes who can she trust and what that truth really is.

Damion Browne is a Renegade that is doing everything he can to save the human population. While he is happy for his friends that have found their Lifebonds he never thought he would have one himself. Now he has to help Lara find the truth before it is too late. For Lara’s life is in danger and he knows that while he never expected to have a Lifebond he isn’t about to let anything happen to the one he now has.

Lara is going to have to decide if she can trust Damion because he is the only one that makes her feel safe and seems to be the only port in the storm. Damion knows they need to work together so that they have a chance at coming out of this fight alive because someone is after Lara and Damion is determined that they will have to go through him first before they even have a chance to get close to Lara. As they fight those after them their trust in each other shows them very clearly the only place they will find peace is with each other and that the only place to get the love they want is with each other.

This is a book that once you start reading the story it will not let you go. There are very few books I have read that once I put them down to sleep or do something else I can’t get them out of my mind. This is one story that will haunt you in a very good way after you put it down. This is one that you will hate yourself if you miss. The characters are such that they will get into your mind and they will not let go for any reason. The story is remarkable in that once you are pulled into it you will not want to leave it for any reason. This one is an absolute keeper. Do not miss this remarkable story.

Damion and Lara's story are by far one of my favorites in this series. The chemistry is on FIRE, and I recommend water for those love scenes. I cannot wait until Lisa puts out more Zodius novels.

From the moment he first laid eyes on her, he knew he was in trouble. He thought of himself as a man dedicated to rules and protocol and until that moment, he was. But from the second he laid eyes on the woman by the pool- the female in the tiny bikini, he knew he was a goner. He can't help himself from watching her and that's dangerous when he's supposed to be on a mission to prevent an assassination. But he knows she is also involved someone in this situation and heads her off in the attempt to find out how. Well....he also needs to know more about her for person reasons.

The heroine's hatred for the GTECHS runs dead and imbedded in her mind is the need to kill every last one of them for how they slaughtered her family. She herself has been injected with the serum of the GTECH but she vows to use those gifts to exact revenge on everyone who wronged her. She doesn't plan on first being too weak to kill the man she's assigned to kill and second, being kidnapped by a sexy GTECH who makes her feel a whole bunch of things she shouldn't be feeling. Things like desire and this bizarre NEED to trust him. He's her enemy, a killer and a lair. Why does she feel this connected to him? No matter, as soon as she figures out a way to escape, she'll be gone. But it's not that easy. First of all, he is extremely intelligent and even more strong. Secondly, somehow, being close to him and touching him eases the painful skull splitting headache and dizziness she's been feeling for a few days. She doesn't understand what is happening to her but she has the sickening feeling that she's been living a lie and that nothing is how it appears to be.

The hero is a gentleman but he's also a fierce soldier. He goes above and beyond to be trustworthy to this female who inspires in him the need to protect and possess. She is skittish and it takes some time for her to being to open up to him but he keeps that faith strong by protecting her from her own organization who want her dead and fighting desperately to get an answer for why she's experiencing these spells. The mark on her neck claims her as his Lifemate but he's smart enough to know that with this woman, it's not enough to solidify the bond. They need to do a blood exchange but his lady refuses on the grounds that until she can remember her past, she will not put his life in danger by completing the bond. But as they days pass and the heroines condition worsen; the hero is nearly crazy with the need to save the woman he loves. Time is running out and if they can't unlock the key to her past, the future looks grim indeed.

This was a nice book. Nice in that I had no real problem with it other than I wasn't blown away. The heroine was a stubborn little creature but smart enough to trust her instincts. She began the story as hating all GTECHS even though she herself has been altered by the serum. These headaches she has are devastating reminders that something is not right with her and there are things hidden from her. She doesn't know why she trusts the hero but she does. Other than a few escape attempts, she generally surrenders to the idea that he is a good guy who is pretty much the only one she can rely on at that time. He is a very solid character. Dependable, perhaps a bit too ridged in his need for protocol but with his history of guilt and remorse, that is no surprise. He was very patient with the heroine, always remaining strong in his means to protect her but never becoming over demanding or too alpha male. He pressed her for things like the blood exchange and the check up on her headaches but at the end of the day, he never forced her unless it was life or death. I liked that about him. I liked his strength and compassion. I liked them together. It was a nice book with moments of action but not a whole lot considering its action adventure image. Perhaps that was what feel short for me. This book spent a lot of time in lulls where nothing much happened. I wanted more action and more adventure rather than having the characters sit in an underground compound exploring their feelings. Still, not a bad outcome. disappointed.

General Powell from book 1 has returned and he’s developed a way to create and control a new generation of female GTECHs. He plans to use these women to bring both, the Renegades and the Zodius soldiers, back under his command. The world will be his. Now, Damion, a Renegade, who readers met in book two, will be pitted against one of those soldiers, a woman destined to be both his Lifebond and his enemy. Damion will become her only hope of salvation and their trust in each other the only chance they have to save the world from a madman…
The Danger that is Damion
This is the 3rd book of the Zodius series by Lisa Renee Jones and she has hit it out of the park again in my opinion. I read and reviewed book 2, The Storm that is Sterling for Literal Addiction Paranormal Book Club when it came out and I was so excited to review The Danger that is Damion. This book builds upon the world that Lisa has wonderfully created and I recommend people read the 1st 2 books before reading this one. There is so much going on that without the back-story someone might not understand. There is a glossary provided in the back of the book that will help for those you might not be able to read the others 1st or people like me who might not have the greatest memory and just need a refresher course on some of the terminology.
When we start this book and meet both Damion and Lara there hasn’t been a lot of time since the last book ended. The Renegades are still trying to stop Adam in his plans to take over the world and since Powell went MIA they have been focusing on Adam. So when Damion runs into Lara while out on a mission and realizes she’s also GTECH he thinks she was made by Adam. Lara is there on a mission too only she is having flashbacks and headaches that are causing her to question what she‘s doing when she is told to shoot a innocent man. Damion not knowing what is going on with her decided the best place for her is right next to him so he does everything he can to keep her there.
Both Lara and Damion are drawn to each other. Neither of them understands what happening and can only go with what they feel, and what they feel is that they need each other. Damion, due to his past has always followed orders. He has wanted no one to depend on him for their life so he’s shocked that he keeps breaking rules for this woman who can’t even tell him her full name. Lara is blacking out and can’t remember simple things like her name. She has been taken by Damion and everything in her training tells her that she’s a prisoner and he her Enemy, everything but her heart. She’s feels something for him and when he touches her she feels better somehow. The problem is can they figure it out before she gets worse or dies? Can they handle who she is and what she might have done?
I was just as enthralled by this book as I was the first 2. Lisa has a way of making you feel so much emotion that stopping reading the book is almost painful. I fell asleep thinking about it and woke up and couldn’t get back to reading fast enough. I love Damion and I really didn’t think it was possible to like someone more than I did Sterling. Damion was sweet but tough, he kept his head even while leading with is heart. Lara is really broken, but she didn’t act like it. I liked that she wasn’t that crying woman waiting for the guy to save her or that woman who thinks she can handle things by herself only to cause more problems. I have not given 5 stars to many books. I can normally find something wrong with it and 5 stars to me means it’s perfect. I can honestly say this is a 5 star book. Lisa has built a world that is intriguing and different from other’s out there. I will be waiting for more books and hope Caleb is getting his HEA soon.

Original Review Can Be Found - Here

I am almost 100% positive that I swooned through most of this book. Literally. Amazingly, I am okay with this. - & let me just tell you why.

How would you like to have near superhuman powers? Right?! I thought it was pretty awesome too! - To be able to windwalk - put people to sleep at the drop of a hat - read minds - see the past - tell the future - have superhuman strength - be able to heal yourself - and so much more.. Most people would find this simply amazing! - Until you get the one idiot who feels that he needs to breed an Army of GTECH's to take over the entire population. - Go figure

-Insert the Renegades here -
Caleb - brother to the idiot who is attempting to take over the world, as formed the Renegades in hopes of stopping his idiot brother. The Renegades are virtually the "Good Guys".

On one hand you have Sapphire - also known as Lara - who has been brainwashed by Dr. Powell, convinced that the GTECH Renegades killed her entire family - then turned INTO a GTECH to help destroy the Renegades.

So here you have Sapphire - also known as Lara - who has been brainwashed by Dr. Powell (who is also attempting to take out the renegades) - convinced that the Renegades killed her family - then turn into a GTECH to help destroy all Renegade GTECH's. - Except they overlooked a couple of things. Lara's memory begins to come back - & she not only DOESN'T take out her mark - but eventually he turns into her ally.

& in comes Damion. GTECH extraordinaire. After joining the GTECH Army after his brother was killed, Damion is the soldier of all soldiers. His family is now his GTECH Brothers. So what does he do when he runs into this insanely sexy woman in a bikini who is clearly trying to kill him? - Under normal circumstances - windwalk and get away.. That is until he realizes she can windwalk to, meaning she is also a GTECH.

Throughout the process of this story we watch as Damion and Lara form this amazing bond that not only tugs at your heart strings, but has you rooting for Damion the entire way. GTECHs have this thing were they "LifeBond" - when you mate with you "soulmate" a symbol forms on the back of your neck - & you are bound to that person. They die, you die. So Lara fights this connection tooth and nail - which makes you want to pull out your hair, but at the same time - hope she changes her mind because you are totally team #Laura&Damion!

In the mist of all this, the Renegade team and Lara combine forces to take down Dr. Powell - who let me tell you, isn't that easy to find. - Watching the battles within battles in this story was a joy for me. Not only did you have Lara and Damion - you had the relationship between Damion and Chale (his best friend) really tested when something went wrong during a mission.

From the plot line - to the witty conversation - to the all around smartass banter between almost everyone in this book - to the down right evil plotting from more than one person, this book had almost everything I like reading in them! Not to mention some salty x-rated scenes! But what is a lifebond without some amazing lifebond forming sex?! right!

Favorite Quote

"Did they teach you bedside manner in assassin school?" Chale asked, eyeing Lara.
"I wasn't aware I had one," she said, her lips lifting.
"You aren't trying to kill me," Chale said. "That sounds like a pretty good bedside manner to me."
"Wait until she decides to kick you or bite you," Damion offered with a smile. "Then you will change your mind."

At a Glance
I am getting a little nervous. Paranormal Romance is losing a little of its edge for me. I can't find a PNR that sucks me in anymore. The Danger That is Damion was good, but I say good with the tone in which I would say something is okay--with uncertainty.

The Good
I have not read the two previous books of this series, but I was easily caught up by this book's recaps.

There were many times I enjoyed Lara and Damion together. While Lara was brainwashed into thinking all GTECHs must be destroyed--especially since she believes they killed her family--she runs across a man who doesn't fit the mold of the big bad GTECH. When Damion captures Lara, he doesn't hurt her or torture her, he is gentle and caring. I liked watching Lara's inner struggle with weeding out her implanted memories from her real ones. Damion is there every step of the way, even when Lara continues to distrust him and his team.

Lara was so strong but so fragile at the same time. She is one of the first female GTECHs, so she can keep her own in a fight but she can't help but fall apart as the world she knows starts to unravel. And Damion is there to support her no matter what. Though I thought him a little soft for a soldier, he was very endearing and playful.

I think the side story was the most fascinating part of The Danger That is Damion. The ones who brainwashed Lara, and turned her into a GTECH, are now after her. She has information that can ruin their evil plans. The cast of bad characters had their own little soap opera drama that played out on page beautifully. I even felt bad for some of them, while others were such horrible people I wanted bad things to happen to them, and often.

The Bad
There were a lot of info-dumps that made it obvious the author didn't know how to smoothly include information into the story without making it look silly for the characters to mention it.

The dialogue was a little too cheesy for me sometimes. And I wish there was more action, especially since this story is about military trained people.

The ending was very rushed. It lacked action and was majorly anti-climactic.

The Snuggly
The snuggly was pretty good. Well written sex scenes overall. I'd say the connection between Lara and Damion was just okay. It wasn't 100% natural feeling. But they were cute together. They made me smile and giggle (Giggle? Who said giggle? I don't giggle. That's just silly.) Sometimes I loved seeing them together, other times I just rolled my eyes at their conversations.

Overall
This book was good in an okay way. There was a lot I found interesting but the writing wasn't the best and the action was lacking. I think those who follow the series will really like The Danger That is Damion. I am currently trying to find a PNR that WOWs me, so my expectations were a little high for this book. It's pretty much an average PNR book. If you are looking for a romantic distraction, this book would suffice. A recommended read for some.

Excerpt
She didn't like being manipulated. But then, two could play that game. She taunted him, went after his male ego. "Unless you're afraid you can't handle me." She softened her voice to a seductive rasp, "Don't worry, honey. I promise to be gentle."

His hands slid around her waist, his palms scorching her skin beneath the thin material of her dress. "The gun in your purse doesn't say gentle to me."

"You might be surprised," she challenged, setting aside the unexpected, uncomfortable drugging effect of this man's deep baritone voice. "Try me."

Lisa Renee Jones continues her action-packed Zodius series with another sexy hero who falls for a woman who is out to kill him and all like him. What a way to start a story. This series just gets better and better with each book. So come along for the ride!

Lara is one of the first of her kind – a female GTECH. She can hold her own with her male counterparts, and that’s a good thing, since she’s been sent to terminate as many as possible. The Renegades killed her family and she’s seeking revenge. General Powell has welcomed her into his fold to allow her to rid the world of these evil bastards. What she doesn’t know is that Powell is still the bad guy, his goal of ruling the world still his main aim.

The Renegades are working to keep both Zodius and General Powell at bay. They never know which enemy will rear its head to try once again to squash their efforts to bring peace and tranquility to the world once again. Finding out Lara is a GTECH, Damion assumes she’s under Adam’s control, since that out-of-control maniac has been hot under the Renegades’ collar recently. And Lara doesn’t disabuse him of his assumption. Damion is immediately drawn to her, despite the fact she’s trying her best to off him. What I love about this hero is besides his seriousness in doing his job, he knows how to tease and smile. Taking Lara to Sunrise City may not be the smartest move, without knowing more about her, but to keep her in his sights and out of danger, that’s all he can do.

It’s there that Lara begins to have to flashes of memory of a past she can’t otherwise remember. The more the Renegade team works with her, the more she discovers how she’s been mislead. She also discovers her weakness for Damion. These two are explosive together. Whether it’s strategizing their next moves or making love, you wait for the bomb to go off and see what’s left after the haze clears. They’re both very intense and stubborn individuals, both strong physically and mentally, and are perfect for each other. Lara has to come to grips with the damage done to her, knowing she has to go back to the enemy to bring them down – something Damion is against. The battle of wills continues!

The side story of those in charge of the GTECH serum and the badass bitch who’s after Lara is interesting, fraught with lust and betrayal, along with a few twists and turns to keep you guessing and the story moving along at a quick pace. We catch up with characters from previous books, all working together to help Lara find herself again. I’m also quite interested in Dorian’s story. I’m so curious what’s eventually going to be done with this very unique character. As well, I like that Ms. Jones alternates villains as we get to new heroes and heroines with each book. It keeps the story arc fresh.

While the series got off to a slightly rocky start for me, it’s now become one I’m anticipating to see what happens next. We know that good will triumph over evil, but these stories make the characters work for that victory. All with a little contentiousness and love and romance along the way.

Favorite Lines: "Wild didn't begin to describe what kissing Lara unleashed inside Damion. He had never felt anything like he felt in this moment, never felt so out of control, so out of his own body. Somewhere, in the back of his mind, there was a warning, a voice telling him this wasn't normal." (p. 77, egalley)

Book three in Lisa Renee Jones' Zodius series can be read as a stand alone, but you'll miss out on the back story and characters introduced in the first two books: The Legend of Michael and The Storm that is Sterling. The Danger that is Damion is the only book I've read in the series and I never felt like I was missing information.

I read an egalley supplied by Netgalley. In it the heroine is named Lara. The blurbs I've found online name the heroine Kayla. I'm going to use the name used in the galley, but want you to keep in mind that the heroine in the finished book may go by Kayla or Lara.

What you need to know: Set in a futuristic world, there are humans and people who've had their DNA spliced with alien DNA. The alien-like people are soldiers with super powers like super strength, speed and telepathy. They heal fast and can travel on the wind. They look human and have always been male. Or so they thought. Some of the super soldiers are good guys who want to protect humanity. They are called Renegades. Other super soldiers are led by a man named Adam. They want to enslave humanity and rule the world.

Characters: Lara is a woman without a past. She remembers little of her life before joining a program that spliced her DNA with aliens. However, she does recall her family being murdered by the Renegades and is possessed by a need to seek revenge. Damion is a Renegade. He is a warrior who looks out for his men and knows upon meeting Lara that something is off. He becomes determined to prove to her that the Renegades would never kill for pleasure. He also has to battle his lust for Lara to prevent it from affecting the well-being of his fellow soldiers and their families.

Romance: It was interesting to see these two soldiers battle one another, physically and emotionally. Both want answers and mistrust their feelings for the other. While it was instant lust, the romance seemed to build at the same pace as the trust between the two. At the end of the book I felt like the couple was on its way to creating a love that would last. Don't get me wrong. The story progresses quickly, but the "I love yous" don't immediately force themselves out the characters' mouths.

Overall: I enjoyed the story. It's not an average paranormal romance. It's a science fiction romance which incorporates science experimentation, aliens (that are never seen) and advanced technology. References to previous books are made and quick explanations are given to prevent the reader from feeling as if she missed an important detail. I won't be running out to buy the next book in the series, but I do see myself reading it.

This another series thatI really like and I found the premise to be a little bit different than some of the other series I've read...which is a big plus in the paranormal genre since so many of the books are so alike after you have read as many as I have.

In this series, we have a group od soldiers who were changed to superhuman through the injection of an experiemtnal serum (unknown to the soldiers of course) of alien DNA that was harvested from the Roswell NM Area 51 crash landing (nice spin on a popular urban legend). The full story of these soldiers (GTECH as they are called) and how things developed are in an earlier series (which I have not read, but will get around to sooner or later). Now, these soldiers have broken into two groups - the Zodius who believe they are superior in every way to humans and that they should rule the earth so they plan to take over, and the Renegades who believe humans and earth should be protected and work to stop the Zoduis group. This book is the third in the current series about the struggle to rule (or save) earth. Damien is one of the Renegade soldiers and, while on a mission, he sees a woman he "knows" is involved in the plot ot kill the scientist he and his team are protecting. Turns out this woman is a GTECH through injection, which was thought to be impossible since only men were converted and there is no serum left (nor can any be created without original alien DNA). Turns out she is part of a group of women being created to kill all GTECH soldiers regardless of whether they are Zoduis or Renengade (yup, a bit of a paradox there...let's create more of hte soldier we are trying to kill off). Seems that women are controllable through a brainwashing program that only works on females (this is NOT explained in the book, but in the glossary if terms - which one of my biggest issues with the story, the details are not a clear as they should be for the reader). Lara (the famle soldier) believes that killing the human is wrong (in spite of her brainwashing and conditioning) and thinks the Renegades are responsible for killing her family. However, her instincts tell her things are not what she thinks or what they seem and she is smart enough to listen to them - at least enough not to kill Damien out right and to look for proof of which story is true. My issue with this story is that Lara comes across a bit lame to me. She is supposed to be this strong willed and well trained soldier type, but she is wishy-washy and a bit whiny in places. Granted her brainwashing and conditioning will affect her behaviors, but I just had trouble buying into her character. For me, she was a character on paper and I couldn't really get into the story like I do with some others.
Overall, I like the series, and recommend it, but this wasn't my favorite of the series. Powell is still up to his games and there is still an overall story to follow, but htis book really didn't forward the overall plot line.

3.5 Stars

I love smexy covers...who doesn’t, so when I caught sight of ‘The Danger that is Damion’ I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to get an advanced review copy.

BIG MISTAKE.

I requested this book without realising it was the third book in a series. Totally stupid move by me – one that I feel is completely unfair to the author, so I do apologise and I won’t make the mistake again.

My first introduction to Lisa Renee Jones was enjoyable but due to my mistake of reading out of order I didn’t like it as much as I probably would have if reading in order.

Both Kayla and Damion are loveable characters, strong minded, determined and they have heart. They care for their loved ones, are honourable, which makes for a great read. The emotion between the both is palpable, I found myself eager to read more, to get to know them, to see their relationship grow, to 3.5ee them finally ‘getting it on’ and for the main part it was written well.

I can completely understand why people fall in love with this series. The men are sexy, laugh out loud funny and definitely sigh worth.

One thing I didn’t enjoy was the repetitive wording around the dialogue. If I was fully hypnotised by the story I probably wouldn’t have noticed all the – he said, then she said, then he said, then she said. But at times that was what it felt like. It didn’t take away from the story, but it’s a pet peeve of mine and I noticed it more than I would have liked.

The only other annoyances were completely MY FAULT. I shouldn’t have read this book out of order, so I am completely to blame. It was hard to get my mind around the sci-fi/paranormal elements. The descriptions were shallow, I needed more depth, I needed more understanding but THAT IS MY FAULT! The first two books in the series would have given me a better understanding of all the elements lacking and for that I am sorry.

When reading a series I get bored with the repetitive nature of explaining the world, the paranormal or character information so in no way do I think there should have been more, but because I hadn’t read the first two books I found myself on the outer, not completely understanding all the elements that were quickly brushed over.

So to sum up the book in general, it was an enjoyable read which I think fans of the series will devour with fervor. However if you haven’t read the first two books I would definitely encourage people to start at number 1....the obvious place to start ;)

This is the third book in the Zodious series by Lisa Renee Jones. In this one Damion Browne finds his lifebond in Lara Martin. Problem is all Renegades are Lara's enemies or so she is brainwashed to think. Damion captures/saves her when her assassination attempt on a Russian nuclear scientist. She's supposed to shoot him but can't. She keeps getting flashes of what she thinks is her family being murdered in from of her and the Russian has little kids. Damion comes up on her and she seems to be lost in herself. Sabrina who we met in the last book as the ICE drug dealer is back this time the leader of a group of female GTECH's called Serenity. These females are converted to GTECH and then brainwashed and that's what happened to Lara. Sabrina is the only one not brainwashed and their leader. Something is wrong with new GTECH female soldiers from Serenity. Lara keeps having blackouts and odd dreams and hallucinations. Damion has to try and help her figure it all out while keeping her from getting killed. This series has just sucked me in. Every book so far just grabs me. I think it's alpha males and the fact that the women they get paired up with are strong and sexy and smart and can kick ass all on their own. At the same time both the male and female leads can be vulnerable too. Plenty of action and suspense too to go with it. I find myself not only interested in the lead character of the book but all the secondaries too and watching for signs as to whose story might be next and can i glean any info as to who their lifebond might be. It's lots of fun. This is another great read by author Lisa Renee Jones. I've tried a few of the different genre's she writes and have not been disappointed yet. 4 out of 5 Modokker Book Pick stars. Bring on the next Zodious book!!

Here's my favorite quote from the Damion's book.

Chale whistled. "I'm straight as a steel pipe, and Michael gets me hot when does shit like that.""That makes two of us right now," Damion said, drawing two glocks from his double-shoulder holster, and heading into the gaping hole Michael had created and entered. He was going to get Lara - and he was bringing her home.

The Danger That is Damion is the 3rd book in the Zodius series, but it’s the 1st one that I’ve read. It was pretty easy to follow along without reading the 2 previous books, but there were some things that I found myself confused about throughout the book. Some things were explained at some point, but others weren’t and it wasn’t until the end that I found a glossary to help explain some of the things I wasn’t sure about.

Over all I really enjoyed this book and I really liked Damion and Lara. This series is about a population known as GTECHs that are humans who were scientifically altered to become “super soldiers”. There have been many things that have occurred since initiating the GTECHs and some of this race has branched off as the Renegades, aka the good guys, which includes Damion and his team. When Damion encounters Lara, she is on assignment to assassinate a scientist that the Renegades are trying to keep safe. She as trouble following through, even those she’s been programmed to do just this. As Damion whisks her away, they start to try to unravel who she is, how she has become a GTECH, which is rare for a female.

Damion is the type of man that always follows the rules and is very honorable. But when it comes to Lara, he finds himself breaking rules for her. He’s determined to help Lara find her past and how to keep herself. I liked him right off the bat, and he his very easy to fall for. Lara is very confused and as she spends more time with Damion, she’s not sure who or what to trust, not even her memories. It took me a while to warm up to Lara, but as the story progressed and I began to understand her motives, that changed and I soon found myself liking her and her spirited attitude. I really liked the banter between Damion and Lara, and when they come together, it is hot!

I was hooked with this book from the beginning. I liked it the whole way through, well except what I didn’t understand from not reading the previous books. I enjoyed the characters and after meeting Michael and Sterling it definitely makes me want to go back and read their books that came 1st. I am hoping that the next book is about Chale, mmmmm I love him just from what I’ve gotten to see of him from this book ;) I will definitely continue reading this series!

Our Review (from LITERAL ADDICTION's Associate Reviewer Mich M):

When a team of soldiers working in "Project Zodius" are injected with Alien DNA instead of their usual immunisations - GTECH soldiers are born. Faster healing and increased strength and speed are amongst the gifts they develop. One of these soldiers - Adam, has a thirst for power, he is quickly becoming obsessed in his mission to breed a new race of super soldiers. GTECH soldiers can only breed with their true mate, Adam uses this to set up Sex Camps where women are forced to sleep with his soldiers in the hope that one of them will be their mate. Adam has no qualms about using people for his own gain.

Fortunately Adam's brother, Caleb doesn't share his goals and he has formed a group of Renegade's who loosely work with the government in the hope that they can stop him.

Renegade Damion Browne doesn't know what to think when Lara Martin enters his life, she says things that don't make sense and treats him like an enemy. Can they put their faith in each other in order to survive what's coming?

I loved this installment in the Zodius series, it was a perfect mix of romance and suspense. I liked Damion and Lara together they are both stubborn and mistrusting yet they are drawn to each other despite knowing the other is kepping secrets. I loved Lara's sensitive side and her indecision, it was easy to relate to her and I found myself willing her to not give up, to fight for her memories and Damion. I was surprised I liked Damion as much, especially with how much I adore Sterling but he surprised me, going frm a guy who never deviates from the plan to someone who would go to the ends of the earth for someone else.

Lisa really surprised me with this book, just I get an idea of where we are going and what happens next she completely blows my expectatioons out the water. Every book is that little bit better than the one before and the world gets that bit more intriguing. I'm in awe of her world buillding skills, she just keeps adding layers and extra dimensions to the characters. I can't wait to see where she takes us next!

The Renegades are back!

While on stake-out, Damion observes the sexy Lara, who is much too interested in the scientist under his protection. When a chase ensues, Damion captures her, hoping to discover what Adam Rain is up to now. He soon learns that Adam isn't behind Lara's training. But will the Renegades be surprised when they obtain the name of her “creator”?

Lara has a long road to follow before she can allow herself to trust Damion and the other Renegades. Nothing is making sense. First she needs to discover what is going on with her memories. It seems that someone has tampered with her mind, and the consequences could kill her. But can she trust the Renegades' to help her?

*****

THE DANGER THAT IS DAMION is my favorite Zodius book so far. It's a fast-paced, action packed, thrill ride from the time you crack the cover open, right up to the turn of the last page! There is also plenty of hot romance stirred into the mix as Lara and Damion fight not only their enemies, but also their growing attraction.

Lisa Renee Jones has added new layers to her Zodius series, keeping it fresh without adding too many new players into the mix. Adam Rain and his Zodius soldiers aren't the main enemies this time around, but I wasn't surprised to see who was.

It took me a while to warm up to Lara, but as the story progressed and I began to understand her motives, that changed and I soon found myself liking her and her spirited attitude. Damion on the other hand is easy to love. He is determined to save the world from the Zodius, and soon you see his focus change to saving Lara, while saving the world. And he is just so dang sexy!

I also loved seeing the people I've met in the previous Zodius books. It was good to see Michael and Sterling - and their lifebonds, of course. :) I really liked seeing Caleb Rain, Dr. Kelly Peterson, and Dorian again. I can't wait to see how their lives are going to play out in the future books. I'm especially looking forward to discovering if Dorian is going to side with his Uncle Caleb or his father Adam. I think Chale is up next, I can't wait to see what Lisa has in store for him.

Pink Skulls Book Reviews
www.pinkskullsbookreviews.wordpress.com

I have never read anything by Lisa Renee Jones, so this was my first. I have to say that I can’t wait to read the first two in the Zodius series.

The first chapter is an attention grabber. For some reason my mind drifted to the old school spy movies or just plain old 007 girls. Kayla is in a skimpy white bathing suit showing off all her assets and has the super solider Damion distracted from his duties for the first time. I’m rubbing my hands together at this point; I’ve got 007 and Jason Bourne running around in my book. Muhahahaha! Anyone that knows me knows that I love me some Jason Bourne. Throw in some love and a kick butt chick and you’ve got a perfect mix for sprawling on my couch.

The formula goes as follows in the book; boy meets girl, girl really wants to kill boy, boy gets the hotties for girl, boy tosses hottie over shoulder and contemplates swatting said behind, girl is really pissed off, boy just wants to swat butt, boy does heavy petting in the guise of “searching” for weapons, girl is determined to show she is not turned on. I could go on forever but you get the picture. LRJ does a better description of these two eyeballing each other in irritation or lust. The Hanky Panky is more than yummy, so no disappointments there.

LRJ had a great new twist that I haven’t seen yet with the GTECH and wind walking. That was, well just cool. This story and the concept of it could have been boring and mediocre but LRJ took it to a notch above cool.

The only thing I can complain about is the villains were plain old villains. They were rather one dimensional. I thoroughly enjoyed Damion’s story. Neither one over powered the other, the characters were well flushed out. Can’t forget the flow, which was great by the way.

I got this book from NetGalley

It seems that General Powell is up to his old tricks again. He has started a new GTECH project but this time he is not only using just women. He is making them GTECH also he is brainwashing them and planting false memories. He is making them hate all GTECH, good and evil. If he can't control all the GTECH soldiers then he wants them dead.
Lara Martin is part of Serenty. She belives that both the Zodius and Renegade soldiers are evil and it is her job to put them down. She wants revenge. She belives they killed her family. She is sent on her first mission. She is to kill a Russian nuclear scientist in order to keep him out of the hands of either the Zodius or the Renegades. For some reason when the time comes to take the shot, Lara is unable to do it.
Damion Browne is a Renegade soldier. He is watching the scientist to keep him safe until they can get him and his family to Sunrise city. When he spots Lara he knows something is up. He follows her just in time to stop her. When he finds out she is GTECH he takes her captive. They need to find out if Adam is turning women or if something else is going on. With old and new enemies after them can Damion keep Lara safe until she regains her true memories?
This is the third installment in Ms. Jone's Zodius series. And what a series it is. This has to be one of the best I have read in a very long time. The mixture of action and romance is perfect. This series is very addictive. The red hot alpha soldiers and the strong willed women they bond with leads to alot of hot moments. I can not wait for the next installment in this wonderful series.

Who doesn't want to read about magnificently gorgeous hunky heros who are nearly indestructible?
The renegades have their hands full again as Powell has started to create his own army of female G-Techs. He has been brainwashing them and programming them to despise and ultimately eliminate the Renegades.
Laura Martin believes that all G-Techs are evil. Especially the Renegades. She believes it was them that killed her family and now she's on a mission to destroy them all. But when given the opportunity, she just couldn't let any harm come to Damion.
Damion is a fearless, all masculine, very powerful male G-Tech. He's the type that can get your pulse racing with a single peek. He takes Laura as a hostage because she may have valuable information that the Renegades need to take down Powell. Also, he wants to protect her from her own people who all of sudden tried to kill her. He doesn't have to spend much time with Laura before he has a hunch that she could be is true mate. But she has to figure out what is real and what is not before she can move on with her life. She doesn't know if she can trust Damion and the Renegades yet. And she doesn't even know if she should trust herself!
Once you start reading this book you won't want to stop until you run out of pages! Unfortunately, things like housework, cooking and sleep would occasionally get in the way of my reading time.
This story is very fast paced. It kept my heart pounding and my eyes glued to the pages. It's dark and edgy and your mind will absorb every detail. From the scorching hot romance that will leave you breathless, to the heart throbbing action and suspense, to the danger that is Damion ♥
