Two Kids from Texas--a sizzling romance--one stupid mistake. Intrigue, terror and undying love culminate in the vast African wilderness. Trent lied about her age. Hal was convicted of statutory rape. Two lives, ruined. Despite a brutal existence in prison, a desperate escape and a chance for a new life in Africa, Hal never forgets his first love. If only there were some way he could return home, return to Trent. Never, warns his wise friend Demetrio, reminding Hal that they are escaped felons, and to be caught is to go back to prison. Trent can't forget Hal, nor can she forgive herself for his fate. The future holds no promise, and finally she seeks solace and expiation in a cult calling itself The Church of Hallowed Revelation. Her parents seek to have her deprogrammed, but instead lose her to ruthless kidnappers, who hold her in their African headquarters until her ransom is paid. Seeking a hostage held by a quasi-military faction, Hal and Demetrio head into the wilderness. At the end of their quest is violence, death, and--just perhaps--another chance for Hal and Trent.

Animal lover and chocolate addict, I write contemporary small town Romantic Suspense, Romantic Mysteries and Romantic Comedy.
In-your-face, spicy, zany, sassy, suspenseful, terrifying, chilling and definitely in bad taste.

One of my publishers, Soul Mate Publishing, went out of business and 5 of my novels disappeared off the internet. On January 15th, 2025, I just re-published CAPRICORN CRAVINGS. Reviews and ratings are thankfully to be seen here on Goodreads. Check it out.

Having read and thoroughly enjoyed this author’s Twila, Redneck P.I. series I was keen to read Way Out of Line and was not disappointed. Without giving too much away the pace was fast and moved from the US to Southern Africa with lots of drama in-between. I definitely would recommend this one.

A romance between 15 year old Trent, and 23 year old Hal? When Trent’s wealthy parents find out, she’s sent to a boarding school and Hal goes to prison for statutory rape. Trent suffers for years with some severe guilt for lying about her age. So much so, she gets involved with not only drugs, but a cult.

After almost ten years in prison, Hal and Demetrio (Hal’s roomy in prison) escape. Then, though Trent and Hal are totally unaware, Trent has been kidnapped and is being held (for ransom) just a few miles from Hal, who’s in Mozambique. Once they meet up, it’s a scramble for survival from the elements, as well as the rebels.

I felt it was rushed in places and I had to stop and go back a few times. Though I thought the story itself started a bit slow, the ramifications of Trent’s little lie snowballed into so much more, I absolutely had to see where the story was going.

I wasn’t expecting an action packed drama that grabbed hold of me! I was expecting a “ho-hum I’m so sorry I lied, and yes, we still love each other, and then they get back together” story.

The author not only caught me off guard, but kept me turning the pages late into the night, causing me to lose my beauty sleep. Well done Trish. (I actually give this book a 4.5 but the system doesn't allow halves!)

THIS BOOK KEEPS YOPU ON THE EDGE OF YOUR SEAT.
When the ill-fated romance, between 15-year-old Brent and 23-year-old Hal, is discovered by her wealthy parents, they are forced apart. Brent is hustled off to boarding school and Hal is sentenced to prison for 25 years for statutory rape. Brokenhearted and alone, Hal relies on his cellmate Demetrio, during his brutal incarceration. Meanwhile, Brent is wracked with guilt for lying about her age and pines for her lost love. While in college she joins a harsh religious cult, whose leader promises to ease her mental anguish. After more than a decade in prison, Hal and Demetrio escape during a California earthquake and cross into Mexico, where a friend helps them flee to Africa. Not long afterwards Trent is kidnapped and held for ransom by a Mozambiquen freedom fighter, wanting money for his cause. Unbeknownst to both Hal and Brent, they end up just a few miles apart in war-torn, Mozambique. After they have both survived years of abuse, deprivation, and near-death experiences, will Hal and Brent meet again and rekindle their love? By Diana M. Hawkins, author of Shadows Along the Zambezi

Trish Jackson's new novel, Way Out of Line, comes on like a freight train, starting out slow but quickly picking up speed to become an unstoppable force that rips apart the lives of two young lovers. Hal is convicted of statutory rape and sentenced to fifteen years in prison. Trent goes to college where guilt over lying about her age to Hal drives her to seek solace in drugs. Not finding it there she joins a religious cult.
Neither loses sight of their love with each other. Many years later they meet up in the wild bush of Mozambique where they run for their lives from a band of rebels.

Jackson ratchets up the suspense with each chapter, weaving a tapestry of intrigue and emotion until she draws all the threads together. This book is a well written, exciting novel that could cost the reader some sleep because it is difficult to leave it even for a little while.

Trish Jackson weaved a wonderful plot that was refreshingly different from other romance novels that I have read. Trent and Hal have a deep connection while it seems that every possible external force is working to keep them apart.
The dialogue is well written and the characters are presented in such a way that the reader is drawn into the story immediately. One seemingly innocent little lie snowballs into a series of tragic events and Trent and Hal have to seal with the consequences. I loved the story and the twists and turns the main characters have to take on their journey.
This is a must read for anyone who likes action packed stories.
I would not be surprised if this is turned into a movie one day (that is how great this story is).
