It’s time for me to admit defeat and give up on this series. I’m not sure if the anime is just extremely different from the manga or if my tastes have radically changed over the years, but I am not really enjoying the manga despite my love for Vampire Knight when I was younger. I used to be a huge Vampire Knight fan when I was a teen. I watched the anime, read Vampire Knight fanfiction, and even considered cosplaying some of the characters at the peak of my obsession. However, I don’t feel any love for the manga like I did for the anime.

My only problem with the manga is such a huge problem that it’s preventing me from enjoying the series. That problem is that I can’t follow the story. There’s way too many characters with similair designs and similair personalities. I think there’s at least fifteen in the main cast you have to follow (if not more). The anime added color and voices so at least I could tell the characters apart better in the anime. Without being able to differentiate the characters from each other, I can’t follow any of the plot except for when Yuki and Kaname are alone together since they're the only two I can easily tell apart.

I still adore Zero though. He’s a great character and if the series focused solely on him, I’m sure it would be more enjoyable.

Unfortunately Vampire Knight just isn’t for me anymore and considering the unfortunate romantic plot twist later in the series, I’m especially not going to force myself finish this series.

Another day, another Vampire Knight Volume. My binging continues!!

I'm still really digging this series, especially since we're getting into the meat of the drama and action. Maria is definitely NOT who she said she was, and man is she causing some drama for our leads. Yuki cares for Zero and wants to make sure he's safe and well, but she might have to go too far to make sure that happens... Also, Kaname is way smarter than he lets on. He knows something is going on, and clearly is going to make a move of his own... Also, a person from Zero's past makes an appearance and changes the trajectory of his story....

The suspense is amped up in this volume. It's totally pulling me in as a reader and I can't wait to grab the next volume. The cliffhanger drove me absolutely wild, but thank goodness I already have the next volume within reach! To add to all of this, the romantic lines in this book KILL ME. They are so cute and are totally the swoon worthy YA romance I needed in my life. Gah! So cute!

Overall, this gothic fantastical romance is definitely what I needed to fill in my time. I will continue to binge this series until I run out of books in my hands. Any recommendations for series similar to this? Send them my way! I am eating this series up!

Four out of five stars!

YAS KANAME!! So satisfied with that ending! And oh my goodness this volume had a lot of action and suspense!! I loved it all!

The things that were revealed and the plot twists, there was so many surprising occurrences!

I also really love Ichijo! (Aside from Kaname, Yuki, and Zero of course). He is just so funny a lot of the time and brings a nice light sense of humour into this manga series.

The ending again, I loved it. Star points for Kaname! And

Trigger Warning:

The more I read these volumes the more I recognize that they read like a detailed storyboard for scenes and actions that run smoothly to transition between different scenes and characters. A lot of the manga I've read up to now has been really choppy and rushed. These are the complete opposite of that and I really appreciate it! I've been loving getting deeper into Yuki, Kaname, and Zero's stories.

This series keeps getting better and better and Vampire Knight 4 is no exception! I loved this installment. Some of the artwork where Zero and Yuki were depicted together were absolutely magical!

I loved the scene where Zero was tutoring Yuki and she notices something is wrong with him. I just stared at those pages because they were drawn so beautifully. Matsuri Hino is truly a master of her craft, no doubt! The detail and thought she puts into her characters, drawings and scenes is shear perfection!

In this book, the true identity of Maria Kurenai is unfolded. It turns out she is Shizuka Sama, the pure vampire that killed Zero's Vampire Knight Family and gave Zero his life as a vampire hindering him from exacting revenge on her, which is ultimately the only thing Zero is after. To save Zero from becoming a Level E, Maria makes Yuki a proposition. Maria will save Zero but only if Yuki sacrifices herself or defies Kaname's trust and hands over his corpse. At the final hour while Yuki is making this difficult decision, we have a new character come into the scene, Tchiro, which turns out to be Zero's older twin brother. ((GASP!!!))

I can't wait to jump into the next book, but at the same time I’m struggling with finishing this manga series so quickly because I love it!!

I love this series more and more with each installment. I need to buy the rest of the series immediately ~runs and checks piggy bank~

My favourite quotes:

"Maybe the reason I managed to live on for so long...is because you were always by side" Zero

"I can't afford to lose you." Kaname

And here are some images for your enjoyment

A transfer student for the Night Class arrives, Maria Kurenai, and causes unease to the entire Night Class cohort. Zero also feels something oddly repulsive about the new student, and warns Yuki to stay away from her. Kaname, the Night Class leader, is composed as ever, but he doesn’t let his guard down and sends his subordinate to watch over the mysterious vampire transferee.

A lot more has been revealed in this book: a cure to end the mad thirst for blood for human vampires, the extent of a true-blood’s vampiric power (true-blood: a vampire that is not tainted with human blood), the arrival of those from Zero’s past, some gore and blood spill—all while their school prepares for a big dance!

FYI: Season 1 of the anime adaptation of Vampire Knight covers book volumes 1 to 5)

HOLY! EPIC! STUFF!

So you know how last volume I said, "Pfft. Who needs plot. GIMME FEELS!" Well, as much as emo-awesome as Volume 3 was, that's how fan-damn-tastic Volume 4 rocked the house down! I don't want to spoil it for you but OH MY GOD and yeah.

There is a LOT going on story-wise with Volume 4. It is non-copious-stop from opening page and I swear there's like five subplots running through this installment. FIVE DAMN SUBPLOTS! (I'm estimating. Shut up. I'm bad at math.) Admittedly it's a bit chaotic but oh my GOD it's exciting. Hell, even the back cover warns you, "The real drama begins in..." this thing. And best of all, there's adorlableness!

I mean, really! Just how can you not...

Ship these...

Two!

So we all know I'm a sucker for the cuteness, but I LOVE me some gory awesomeness, too! The following image may or may not be a spoiler (don't kill me, please!) but it's too damn awesome not to include! I MEAN LOOK AT THAT BADASSNESS!

And can we all just stop, collaborate and listen to the rockin' kick-ass that Zero embodies? CAN WE?!

I just, damn. I mean, I'm a fangirl over this series so hard but come ON! If you're not in love with Vampire Knight after Volume 4 what is wrong with you, human!?

Don't hate a fangirl, hate the fangirling.

As beautiful and dramatic as ever, this is the quintessential gothic vampire romance manga. This book was wonderful in my opinion. There was quite a lot of plot advancement, at least compared to previous books. A number of new twists evolved in the plot, and a number of burning questions were answered, though mostly just with more questions. The revelation that Shizuka has come to Cross Academy - and that she is Zero's master - and that Zero's brother is also her slave - and that Headmaster Cross has no idea what is going on... the characters are tying themselves in to some rather complex knots! The book ended rather abruptly on an unexpected cliffhanger, with Kaname's clawed hand protruding through Shizuka's chest as he embraces her so gently from behind. The looks on their faces, hers of slack, wide-eyed surprise, and his of gentle melancholy, are so spectacularly out of place that it's jarring, and ends the book with intense suspense. It really drives you to run out and find the next book - which I intend to do with all possible haste. My favorite thing about this manga is the artwork, but now the story is getting really good too!

Zero knows the mysterious transfer student. She says her name is Maria, but Zero knows she is the one who killed his family, because she bit him and now they have a blood bond. Unfortunately, this blood bond also makes it impossible for Zero to kill her, as he intended. Yuki witnesses the battle between the two, but after Kaname erases her memories of the incident, Yuki decides she must save Zero from becoming a Level E vampire. At the school ball, Yuki leaves to track down Maria and save Zero.

The clothes are great, and the characters' eyes are weirdly haunting and expressive. I like Yuki's relationships with Kaname and Zero and I'm interested to see where each leads...

Good to see the Vampire Knight class again. It was also good to see the vampire that turned Zero. Glad we were able to meet Zero's twin also.

Can't wait to read Vampire Knight volume 5!!!!

This volume was intense and the plot twists were cliche but so so fun! Both Zero and Kaname are different with the ways they treat and "love" Yuuki. Also, Zero's past is getting clearer with each volume, it's taking a bit long, but I enjoyed it!

I must be a really shallow person because I honestly cared a lot more about the romance in this volume than the actual plot. There were some heavy storylines going on. A couple of important people from Zero’s past showed up and all I could think about was the school dance going on. I was so into this whole Zero/Yuki/Kaname dynamic. It was like I was a teenage girl all over again. There were so many interactions between Zero and Yuki that had me swooning. I wanted them to get together so badly. I’m not sure where the story is going to go now that the big situation with is resolved, but can I just say that that final panel was great? I definitely wasn’t expecting that from Kaname.

Okay, you maybe thinking "What's wrong with this person, does she only read Mangas?!" The quickest answer would be, yes.

Volume 4 is definitely the favourite thus far. This delves deeper into Zeros past. More so , you meet the person responsible for his current affliction - Shizuka-Hio. In order for a human to become a Vampire, they must be bitten by a Pureblood. But this Pureblood is an enigma, even amongst her own kind. However the greatest revelation is the appearance of Zeros long lost kin.

Kaname shows a deviant side of himself. One that clearly defines that all are expendable when it comes to protecting what he considers his.

With each book, I enjoy each one a little bit more than the last book. My school library only has 1-4, Im going to find the rest and finish the series and Im going to also find the show and finish that. Just like the other 3 books I really enjoyed this one, I liked that it ended on a clif hanger, though it might take me a while to find the other books. I really like the short stories at the end and I also like the drawings at the beginning and the end...I could never draw that great. I want to thank the author again, Matsuri Hino for creating and publishing this great series. I cant wait to read the other books and also watch it. Thank you.

This series is just going to continue to get high marks from me. I think the sooner we all accept that, the happier we'll be. In this volume, Zero meets two people from his past, and Kaname seems to have a hidden agenda.

Wow, die Reihe ist einfach am Anfang so spannend!
Dieser Band hat weniger Witz als seine Vorgänger, dafür mehr Gefühl und Drama, gerade zum Ende hin. Wahnsinn!

UPDATE 2025: Echt super spannend, I like a lot.
