Unlike the three popular boys in the "Scissors Project" at school, Kiri Koshiba, a truly gifted hairstylist, has no interest in using her talent to pursue fame and fortune, but as much as she tries to shy away from the Scissors Project spotlight, Kiri finds herself responding to beauty's call.
Rereading old childhood favourites as an adult comes with a double edged sword. On the one hand, you're filled with a sense of nostalgia to be reunited with these characters once more and it's comforting in a way to be able to predict what's going to happen next. But on the other hand, you can't help but notice the flaws. The lack of character development, the unnecessary amount of filler episodes, the list goes on..
If I'd picked this series up for the first time at my current age, I'd likely rate it no higher than a 2 or 3 stars due to the inconsistent plot/character development in the series. And yet, the nostalgia!
I might not see myself returning for a 3rd reread in the future, but it's definitely the kind of series that I'd happily recommend to my younger sister, or who knows maybe even my own child someday!
I especially enjoyed the bonus story about Ken at the end of this volume, so it made up for the somewhat lackluster main chapter
1st read rating: 5/5 2nd read rating that you should take with a grain of salt: 3/5
Good volume. Was a little disappointed about how large the bonus stories were in this volume. Really wanted to see what decision Kiri would make sooner and have more time their concerning that situation. The bonus stories were funny as well as moving. I am surprised that the romance has not escalated, which leaves me a little concerned since there are only three volumes left.
What I really like about these series is that it's just so light and whimsical and nothing serious really happens but of course it's SUPER serious to them lol. Kiri and Narumi 4EVA!
this volume was pretty weird, but i did like it. i think the problem i have is that so many great plot threads are just dropped and this is a fillery volume instead. like ochiachi being in love with kiri, i really wanted to see more of thay dynamic. also, the romantic development between kiri and narumi still hasn't begun (though they could be called friends at this point) and it really needs to if it's going to be developed even a bit. i hope the last 3 volumes pick up.
The first copy I bought was lost in the mail (but I got a refund); the second finally came last March. I didn't even spend that much money on it... Relatively. But, jeez, it's a pristine copy: so clean and perfect!
I've never seen something like this, though: Arai-sensei actually stops the story, inserts two bonus stories, and then she picks up the main plot again. A bit weird but not as bas as I feared. I also really liked the story about the dog.
Despite half of this volume serving as a placeholder for the end and beginning of arcs, the bonus stories still ended up being enjoyable and foreshadowing a character who's shaping up as the Scissor Project's next adversary. Kiri had a good moment where she realized how much hair styling means to her in a way she didn't earlier in the series. This will increase her drive going forward as she continues to serve as the second stylist on SP despite not being an official member. Although at this point, it's clear she is.
I love this series! This volume did have a bit of an issue with structure though, as the bonus stories were in the middle and the main storylines were at the beginning and end. My only other critique is that Chisami and Iori’s third person talk gets old really fast.
As I said in reviewing the earlier volumes, between 2-3 stars for me, so rounded up. It has its funny moments, and the art is enjoyable, but mostly I'm enjoying it now as a nostalgic reread from high school.
Right now we're in the dragging part of the series - the never-ending beauty contests. Do people really care this much in the real world? Or just shoujo? Probably just shoujo.
Kiri really started stepping into her own in this volume. Love to see her owning up to her skills and being serious. Also some really cute transformations in this volume.
Beneran annoyed for me *jiwa anak bahasa Indonesianya muncul**btw, ini bukannya komentarin cerita, malah komentarin cara penerjemahannya*
Oh, God, the random dog story right in the middle of this volume totally just made me bawl my eyes out. Gen! :(
Other than that, Narumi has a weird dream about Kiri which makes him avoid her and constantly tell her to stay 3 meters away from him--ha! And Billy Iketani shows up and steals the S.P.'s thunder. There's also a story about Chisami and a childhood friend.
Beauty Pop from the start was a great read, i enjoyed immensely the action between Kiri and Narumi, how she doesn't care in the world and how he breaks out in hives whenever a girl touches him. Kiri changed his life from a young age, which he finds out later on, so he sees her as a rival and eventually as a girl he loves.
Series Review: Beauty Pop is exactly like its name very cute and funny. It has a unique premise of makeovers and the plot can be unexpectedly dramatic at times. The characters are what had me hooked as I loved them all too much to get bored. I feel the ending was rushed but over all it fit the story well. I recommend this manga to those who like very light and cutie stories.
Beauty Pop, Volume 7 was such a good read with a great storyline and good humour to match. I would definitely recommend this book to those who love reading manga, as well as those who are looking for a quirky, yet dominant female lead role. The only unfortunate thing I found with this book is that they no longer make hardcopies and that you can only read them as ebooks now.
Noble cause, noble cause. Things are starting to pick back up, but I really had to push myself through the beginning to get myself back to being interested in this. It was a good thing I started this "noble cause," by the end of the series I came to really enjoy it again.
This volume felt very confused! Just as I got into the story, there were three random bonus stories thrown in the middle, and then the story resumed at the end. Very bizare, and it weakened my interest.
Tis a rare thing for me to give a three star, but this volume was filled with so many extras in the middle that I almost gave up hope in finishing the volume, but my sister assured me there was more chapters in the back.
