The Names of God Bible, edited by Ann Spangler, using the God’s Word Translation is first and foremost the Bible – that is The Word of God; however, what makes this Bible different than others that are available on the market is that this Bible highlights the Names of God in the Scriptures as you read them

So as you are reading through The Names of God Bible and you come upon a name for God you will be able to find out how the particular name is pronounced, some background information about the name including what it means as well as promises associated with the name. Also, throughout the Bible there are interlinear notes that highlight certain key Scripture passages that have a name or names of God contained in the passage. How awesome!

What I enjoy about this Bible is as I am reading it and I see a name of God that I don’t understand, I can reference the helpful background information provided about the name and what it means which better helps me worship and serve the God of the Word – who has so many wonderful names. I give this Bible *****!

Something inside of me jumped when I was offered the opportunity to review The Names of God Bible. I have both of Ann Spangler's Praying the Names of... books, and I love getting to know Jesus and God by getting to know the meaning behind their many names.

The Names of God Bible has some great features:
Introductions to the books of the Bible: These are some of the best introductions I've ever read. I love the authors' conversational language. I don't feel like I'm reading a textbook on the particular book, but a true introduction to it. Each introduction ends by listing the key names of God or Jesus in each particular book.

Name Pages: These identify one name of God or Jesus and introduce the reader to that aspect of God's character. The definition of each name is given and expounded upon. I found incredible encouragement when reading through these. I was reminded of God's endearing love for His creation and His people. Each name page also includes a devotion, key scriptures, and a prayer.

Calling God by Name Sidebars: These notes are about people from Scripture, a brief description of who they were, and a couple of the names they used when referring to God.

I really enjoyed having the opportunity to experience The Names of God Bible. Reading the Word of God is a highly important part of my daily life, as I find myself experiencing a much deeper relationship with Go'el (my Redeemer & Defender) and Yeshua (my Savior) when I do so frequently.
Although reading His Word is one way to remain close to Him, praying is equally important. To develop a closer relationship with your Savior, consider adding this wonderful resource and Ann's books to your Christmas wish list. You won't be disappointed. You'll only go deeper.

About the author:
Ann Spangler is an award-winning writer whose fascination with the Bible has resulted in books that have opened the Bible to a wide range of readers. She is the author or coauthor of several bestselling books, including Praying the Names of God, Praying the Names of Jesus, Women of the Bible, and Sitting at the Feet of Rabbi Jesus. Together, her books have sold nearly 3 million copies. She has held senior positions at two Christian publishing houses and lives with her two daughters in Michigan.

Please note: I received a copy of this Bible from the publisher for review. However, I am under no obligation to provide a positive review. But I do, because I admire the incredible work that went into this project and the amazing quality of the item that was produced as a result of that work. I also simply love exploring the names of God. Because I love Him.

I tend to collect Bibles, different translations and different study bibles. And I am very happy to add The Names of God Bible to my collection. Often when I hear a different name for God, I wonder just what the full meaning of the name is, especially some of the names we don’t use so often. This Bible has a lot of information and features that help teach us about these names.
Some of the wonderful features in this Bible to help are reading paths-that give references with that particular name with scripture references; an alphabetical listing of the names and a list of Hebrew and Aramaic names; it has a topical prayer guide for these names; a table of the names of God; also you will find an introduction to each of the books of the Bible which include the key names of God in that book. And one thing I really need that this book has is a pronunciation guide to help you pronounce all of these names. I know no Hebrew at all, so this is a feature that is special to me.
One feature I really like it the short devotional this Bible has of each of the Names of God they have listed here. These devotionals are most interesting to read because they have a lot of special information about the names. Also as you read the Old Testament scripture that have these names, this Bible uses the Hebrew names of God, which is sometime confusing because you have to switch back to see which name it is. Unless however you memorize the names before you read the scripture.
I highly recommend this Bible as an addition to your Bible Study tools. You can’t go wrong with owning it. This special Bible will just be one more awesome study tool you can use as you study God’s word. I plan to keep mine just for this reason.
I received this book from the publisher Revell to read and review. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 55

I am gratefully elated my wife gifted me this Bible. This version deepens my study of our history and helps me to know our Creator in ways unimaginable. Mimicking the great men of the Bible, I address God with the names they used because I now know what they are since I learned about them in these pages. Names, from ancient times, reflect characteristics and virtues of the bearer and help me better understand perspectives of those who used them. There is power in using the actual names of God, and I also believe knowing someone intimately requires knowledge of proper names, not just pronouns.

I’ve read a lot of versions of the Holy Bible and I like that this book presents the names of God that the characters used to worship. I felt the characters’ great love and faith in God that I find myself praying, praising and worshiping Elohim. I’m so happy that my name have the name of God and the meaning is so beautiful. I feel blessed.

Open the door to a more intimate relationship with God

One of the best ways to get to know God on a deeper level is to know his names and titles as revealed in Scripture. Now the bestselling author of Praying the Names of God and Praying the Names of Jesus uncovers the richness of God's character and love found in his names right within the Bible text.

The Names of God Bible restores more than 10,000 occurrences of specific names of God-like Yahweh, El Shadday, El Elyon, and Adonay-to help readers connect with the Hebrew roots of their Christian faith and experience a deeper understanding of God's character. Perfect for personal study, prayer, and reflection, The Names of God Bible includes these special features:

More than 10,000 names and titles of God restored to their Hebrew equivalent and printed in brown ink to stand out within the biblical text

Names of God reading paths lead readers to the next reference of the name so they can pray and study the names of God throughout scripture

Name Pages feature

background information associated with the most important names and titles of God
key Scripture passages in which the name is revealed
devotional readings for each of the featured names
specific Bible promises connected to each of the featured names

Calling God by Name sidebars shed light on the relationship between biblical people and the specific names they called God.

My Thoughts
I obviously have not read this entire book cover to cover but I definitely like how the names of God are explained and referenced throughout the book, the beginning of the book has several reference pages,

Alphabetical Listing of Bible Books
Alphabetical List of Names and Titles of God
Pronunciation Guide to Names and Titles
Introduction
Welcome
Names of God Reading Path System
Publisher's Note
Preface

...and then the end of the book includes,

Selected Bibliography
Topical Prayer Guide for the Names of God
Table of the Names of God
Name Index
Fast Track Reading Plan
Reading Plans

All said and done this is one Bible that is going to be very helpful in learning more about the Names of God, which I never realized were so many, a very good addition to your regular Bible or for those of you looking for a newer easier to read Bible, you may want to check this one out. It is not, of course, a King James version but an easier to read translation.

I am a big fan of Ann Spangler, author of Praying the Names of God. I was first introduced to her through the book Sitting at the Feet of Rabbi Jesus, which she co-wrote with Lois Tverberg. So, I was very intrigued when I heard she had Bible coming out called The Names of God Bible.

Beautifully designed, The Names of God Bible is the God's Word Translation which was produced by God's Word to the Nations Mission Society. It has been translated directly from the Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek texts.

This bible features all the names of Yahweh throughout the Old Testament, but also includes many more, plus the names are featured by the author with explanations as to their meanings. For example, in Genesis alone we have these names and their meanings:

Yahweh – LORD

El, Elohim – God

Ruach Elohim – the Spirit of God

El Elyon – God Most High

Adonay – Lord

El Shadday – God Almighty

El Olam – the Everlasting God

El Roi – the God Who Sees Me

Yahweh Yireh – the LORD Will Provide

What I appreciate about this Bible is that the creators have kept these names as they appeared in the original text, instead of just using "God, Father or Lord". The scripture takes on a whole new meaning when you have the original names and what they meant.
For example, Genesis begins: "In the beginning Elohim created heaven and earth. The earth was formless and empty, and darkness covered the deep water. The Ruach Elohim was hovering over the water." Yes, it is easier to understand why earlier translations of the Bible switched these words to English. I would not know what the Ruach Elohim was if Biblical scholars had not shown me and translated it to "the Spirit of God". But now, as I grow older in my faith, it is nice to discover these names of God and how they relate to the text surrounding them.

This Bible is one that I will treasure and use often and I know would make any student of the Bible thrilled to receive it this Christmas.

The Names of God Bible is a unique version of the Bible, as it uses the Hebrew names of God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit throughout the Old and New Testaments. A full list of names and titles, with a pronunciation guide, is listed in the front of the Bible. All the names used in a particular book are listed at the beginning of the first chapter.

Knowing the names used throughout the Bible, as used in the Hebrew language, can open new, rich insights into the understanding of who God really is. Much work has gone into presenting this Bible for fuller understanding of God. It’s written in the God’s Word translation, which, I personally, am not familiar with. But it is considered “an easy-to-understand translation…” according to Billy Graham.

There are a host of pages that introduce you to the use of this Bible, some of which include:

Hebrew Names
Names of God Reading Paths
Names Pages
Calling God by Name
Alphabetical List and Name index, etc.

Also of interest to me are the reading guides, references and book introductions. The paragraph format with headings is very helpful. The smaller inserts makes it appealing and helpful in remembering specific details and verses.

The small print is the only part that I find difficult. And I do miss the words of Christ Jesus in red.

This Bible was provided by Donna Hausler, Publicity Assistant, Baker Publishing Group, in exchange for my honest review. No monetary compensation was exchanged.

I do confess that I am a bit of a Bible collector. I the ones I have and for different reasons each. Now I am very glad to have a very new and entirely unique one to add to my studies. Once, I took it upon myself to try to go through the Old Testament and underling every time it said, "God spoke," or "the Lord said." It was a huge undertaking and I never completed it. Now this Bible provides me with something even better. Every mention of God is in a very attractive sepia tone against the black of the rest of the text. So, it accomplished the highlights that were my goals as well as integrates all of the terms and titles originally meant and transliterated to allow one more chance at getting back to the inspiration without reading it in the original languages. This already makes this Bible so valuable to me. But there is so much more than that. The Name Pages allow you to go further in study and understand the meaning. The introductions to each book of the Bible are some of the better I have ever read. Actually interesting and written in an engaging manner I could see reading this during a Bible class and starting sparks of interest with even a child.

I have the books Praying the Names of God and Praying the Names of Jesus by Ann Spangler so this bible is a welcome addition to my library. It has quickly found it's place next to my regular study bible where I have started using it in comparison with my ESV.

The added study helps, definitions of the names of God, and the footnotes make this bible very user friendly! In addition each chapter starts out with an over view and the names listed in that chapter.

This is an excellent resource bible and also great for everyday use. As I stated above there is something about having the original language and meaning of the names right there in scripture that adds a whole new depth to your bible study.

The the Names of God Bible adds a richness and depth to the scriptures. By using the very personal names of God instead of just "God" or "the Lord" the scriptures become intimate and personal. The heart of God is truly revealed and the meaning of the scriptures become so very personal. God ceases to be a mystery and becomes instead the closest friend. He becomes real and personal as His character is revealed in the very names He chose for himself. I absolutely love this bible!

I was very happy with this Bible using the Hebrew names and background information of the 68 names and titles of God. I've tried to study some Hebrew for Biblical purposes and this Bible helped a lot.

I really enjoyed this Bible. I try to read through the bible on a regular basis and try different ones. This was one of my favorites. I think the NIV Fruit of the Spirit Bible would be first then The Inspirational Study Bible : Max Lucado, then this one.

This is a great bible. Whenever Jesus, The Holy Spirit or God the father or God almighty it writes His name in the original Hebrew. Knowing the names of God and using His names really strengthens you as a Christian.

I love the way this reads. I don't know that I would recommend this for proofs or memorization, but it makes it very easy to read long portions at one time.
