The end of the world didn't come from a nuke bomb or natural disaster. Society's downfall came from ruthless and bloodthirsty vampires. Survival became priority number one. Preston Mitchell is fighting to survive after the loss of his family. He is coming of age in a world ruled by evil night creatures. A chance encounter brings him to Darcy Rose and her family farm. She is also a teen living on her own. Because of her, Preston learns the true meaning of determination, love, and what it takes to be a man.
Jez Strider has always been drawn to the shadows — the places where the supernatural brushes against the painfully human. Her stories explore identity, survival, and the strange beauty of being an outsider.
After stepping away from writing to face some of life’s heavier battles, she’s returned with a voice that’s stronger, darker, and more honest than ever.
She lives in Tennessee with her boyfriend and a small constellation of animals who have shaped her life as much as any story. They’re the quiet magic in the background while she builds new worlds, one chapter at a time.
This book was much better than I expected and what made it even better for me is that it was a stand alone book, just over half way through I was thinking that I hope there's not a sequel not that I object to sequels but sometimes it's just nice to get the whole story and not have to wait for the next book. It is a quick read partly due to the fact that once you start reading you can't stop, great idea, great book
The vampires in this story are not the sweet fall in love, sexy bite me kind of vampires. This was a good and fast. The vampires in this book has taken over the world. Your biggest nightmare is running into one of them. This book is all about survival. You do not want to be up and moving about when the sun goes down and you do not want to get caught by one of these blood sucking creatures of the night. If they don't use you for food they may use you for sport.
To be honest the life of other humans. This book has the survival feel of The Walking Dead. The vampire's are intelligent yet deadly creatures. They do not have one ounce of care for human life.
In this book you have to be careful who you trust. You would think that running into another human would be something you hope for but not in this book.
No good sexy times in here. This book is 99% squeaky clean. There is a little death and violence in the pages that were pretty entertaining.
This turned out to be a very good read. I straddled the fence with the rating. I really wanted to give it four stars but that would mean I'm looking forward to the next book which I'm not sure I'll read as of yet. Still I really enjoyed the story but it may be too clean for me.
If you judge the book by its cover, you’d figure Vampire Takeover was yet another:
Sparkly…Seductive…Flowing hair in calm air…Persecuted soul….Teenage-angst drivel.
Strider’s version of Vampires? Not even close; it’s refreshing and fun. This is post-apocalyptic with humans pitted against humans and vamps. The primary characters of book one in the series are teens, but there is enough fire in their souls to transform them from fearful, to survivor, to warrior. The vamps are the apex predators; lacking compassion and always on the hunt - either for minions or meals.
Preston Mitchell loses his family at the onset and stumbles into Darcy, who is waiting for her family to return. The tale takes them through a few adventures (going to stop here so no spoilers) that test their resolve. Any YA (or adult) should enjoy this book if dystopian, apocalyptic and/or vampires are in your wheel house.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. The main characters were real to me and became engaging from the very start of the book. I particularly liked the way the author made the MC develop and mature through the length of the novel. It was a wonderful reading and one that I thought was well worth the money. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is interested in the vampire genre and likes plenty of action.
more of an apocalypse book than vampire book. It had me on the edge of my seat like any bad horror movie, but I didn't really get in to the characters. The last 1/4 of the book really breezes through & the ending was kind of abrupt.
This book is well written and very engrossing. I read this in one read and wished it had more story. The background could use more pages as well as the inbetween time. I want more!
