Experience the Christmas season though this 25-day devotional that focuses on the life and faith of the man who was to become known throughout the world as Nicholas of Myra, St. Nicholas, St. Nick, and finally, Santa The man of great faith who loved Jesus Christ! Each day's reading centers on a faith-building theme and is accompanied by scripture, devotional thoughts, and an historical vignette from St. Nick's life. Great for personal use, family devotions, or as thoughtful holiday gifts.
I enjoyed this Advent devotional. My previous knowledge of St. Nicholas was rudimentary, at best, and I learned a lot about his life, and why he is synonymous with Christlike giving at Christmas. I really appreciated how the author kept reminding us to keep our focus on the Saviour, as Nicholas did. As I was reminded elsewhere just today: Christ IS Christmas! 4.5 stars
I think if this were a book focused solely on the Faith of St Nick, without being an advent devotional I wouldn't have felt uncomfortable. There's fun history and narrative. It exemplified a life of giving and faith, but I felt like giving him a day the same as I do Jesus took it from a 5 star to a 4. Book is well written, and I appreciate the work and research that had to go into it.
Very interesting read about his life and the times. It helps focus the contemporary idea of St. Nick (Santa) with the actual person's life which helps communicate what he's all about during the Christmas celebration. The biblical scriptures tie into the readings well. It's a good family discussion book, too.
This devotional anchored scenes from Nicholas of Myra's life to Scripture and history. I had hoped for more actual history and less narrative interpretations (in the form of very short stories). The presentation also raised questions for me as it presented Constantine as a true believer from the start, which may or may not have been the case.
Wonderful daily walk through the life of Saint Nick... lots in interesting information about him that I did not know! Great annual read leading to Christmas to keep you in the reason for the season!
