I had my introduction to The Black Swamp mysteries by P M Terrell through Vicki’s Key and I knew it would not be my last. These are my kind of stories, filled with murder, mystery, intrigue and dastardly villains…oh, and a little lovin’ never hurts. 🙂

Chris and Brenda’s meeting…was it Karma?

Assumptions early in the story took me down the wrong road and it didn’t take long before P M Terrell sent me on a different track.

The cops are on their trail, but Alex has it all wrong. He’s like a dog with a bone, so he won’t stop looking for them. Everywhere they turn, someone want to put them in jail…or worse, wants them dead.

I still haven’t figured out exactly what kind of trouble Brenda’s in and Christopher is along for a very bad ride. He’s as political strategist in DC. He has lots of important connections to muckety mucks. Can he save her? Will he? Is romance in the air? He knows it’s was all wrong, but it didn’t matter. We can’t choose who we love.

HE had never failed on his hits, but Brenda was proving elusive. I cracked up when I found out HE knits little bitty baby booties. What a fun and contradictory character.

Computers, Google Earth, can be the life and death of a person. Information is available at your fingertips. It can work against you, as well as for you.

Kept me guessing about the mystery. Is Brenda good or bad? How about Nate? How much is true?

Exit 22 has all the things I love in romantic suspense. Unlikely couples drawn into a mystery. Devious villains wanting to shut them up. Assassins. Oil and all its corrupting influence. Greed. And danger. Danger.. Danger.

A Note From The Author at the end of the book, really got my fires burning.

You’ll need to read to decide, but it makes me furious to know the tax loopholes allowed, along with the corruption of government, shell corps, offshore accounts, US corporations not paying income taxes, social security taxes, medicare taxes, deregulation, less oversight. Beware middle class if you think it will get better…

I voluntarily read a free copy of Exit 22 by P M Terrell.

I loved this mystery or I should say mysteries. Exit 22 has a very intriguing start - a double murder. So right away Ms. Terrell has grabbed my attention - who was killed and why? But that's not the only mystery that you get to try and solve. Chris, a man who has been living his political career rather than have a life has no idea what he's in for when he rolls his car. He meets Brenda, a woman who captivates him but just might be the death of him and just might have something to do with the double homicide but she's telling him very little.

The characters are well crafted and thought out, they really came to life for me. I loved the small town setting of Lumberton. You will feel like you are there. Anyone who has lived in a small town would easily relate to the busybodies, the gossip, the connections. This story will keep you guessing as to what is coming next. Great job.

I would highly recommend this book and this author. This is book one in the Black Swamp Mystery series, of which the author has three more out with another one to be published in 2014. I was given a copy for an honest review.

I have no idea why more people aren’t acquainted with this author! She is great at espionage, as in this book and history where I have read 2 books about the settling of Fort Nashboro .

Exit 22 is the first book in P.M. Terrell’s Black Swamp Mysteries series. It is a really good mystery with some very interesting characters. All of the characters are great but I was fascinated by the assassin. Who makes an assassin who relaxes after his “job” by knitting baby booties for his granddaughter? P.M. Terrell that’s who! He is a brilliantly written character that you find yourself disgusted with but at the same time intrigued by.

This is one of those books that I wish had a better cover. The current cover doesn’t really do anything to help a reader connect or question what is within the pages of the book and might cause a fantastically written book to get lost among its competition. So, in this case I would say don’t judge a book by its cover. Pick up a copy of Exit 22, the action is nonstop, the romance is hot, and the mystery has you wondering exactly who the bad guys are. If you read Exit 22, which if you are a mystery fan I would recommend that you do, be prepared to pick up the rest of the books in the series. You will want to keep reading to have all of your questions answered.

Other Books in the Black Swamp Mysteries:

Vickie’s Key (Book 2)
Secrets of a Dangerous Woman (Book 3)
Dylan’s Song (Book 4)

This was an excellent book to set up the Black Water mystery series. I don't know anything about the other books in the series, but I would hope that they continue on with the same story thread. I very much enjoyed reading a book that was set in my hometown, and I hope that some of the same characters continue on in the other books in the series (which I will now have to get). I don't want to give anything away, but I found the descriptions of my hometown to be very accurate, and also the portrayal of the characters to be the same.
