For two months, Nora Murphy has cared for the abandoned infant she found on their Boston-bound ship. Settled now in Faith Glen, Nora tells herself she's happy. She has little Grace, and a good job as housekeeper to Sheriff Cameron Long. She doesn't need anything more-not the big family she always wanted, or Cam's love….A traumatic childhood closed Cam off to any dreams of family life. Yet somehow his lovely housekeeper and her child have opened his heart again. When the unthinkable occurs, it will take all their faith to reach a new future together.
Winnie Griggs grew up in south Louisiana in an undeveloped area her friends thought of as the very back of beyond. With her two younger siblings and another family of two siblings for playmates, she spent many an hour exploring the overgrown land around her home, cutting jungle trails, building forts and frontier camps, and looking for pirate ships on the nearby bayou.
Once she ‘grew up’ she found other outlets for dealing with all those wonderful, adventurous imaginary friends by filling notebooks with their stories. And somewhere along the way, those scribblings gave way to full length stories.
Eventually she found her own Prince Charming, a rancher whose white steed takes the form of a tractor and whose kingdom is situated in a small rural community that she loves to call home, and together they’ve built their own storybook happily-ever-after. Their lives together expanded to include four now grown children who share Winnie’s vivid imagination and her husband’s steadier influences and are now out in the world pursuing their own adventures.
Winnie shares her stories with readers through her writings for Love Inspired and Love Inspired Historical books. You can learn more about Winnie at www.winniegriggs.com
Rarely do I feel a dire need to review a book, but this one stands so far out among the same old, same old, ho-hum historical, I just had to put in my two shillings. Heroine Nora Murphy is as refreshing as she is relatable to every woman who feels she’s nothing special, whether by looks or personality. She’s learned to accept her lot in life (really, who hasn’t been there?), but her kind nature and independent spirit attract Sheriff Cameron Long, who’s as strong and deliciously multi-dimensional as heroes come.
What did I love about this book? Other than the simple truth that I could not--could not--put it down, Author Winnie Griggs weaves a spiritual tale that makes historical and Christian fiction fans alike go, “Thank you for not writing yet another drop dead gorgeous heroine with no real problems whatsoever!” Seriously. What a breath of fresh air. Both Nora and Cam have their inner demons, which they must overcome and, of course, do by novel’s end. Add the wonderfully colorful backdrop of Faith Glen, a twist of adventure, a dash of suspense, and you’ve got a solid tale that’ll stay on your Keeper Shelf for years to come.
Well done, Ms. Griggs. Can’t wait for the next release.
This historical romance was surprisingly good! While the book blurb accurately described Nora and Cam's relationship with each other, it does not reveal how pivotal the baby was to the story. I won't spoil it for you, except to say that it won't be what you'd expect. ;)
First book read by this author, and I'll be looking for more!
"A Baby Between Them" by Winnie Griggs (3rd book in Irish Brides series)
Another author-another sister's tale in this last book in the series. Nora Murphy came to America on the ship "Annie McGee" along with two sisters. Nora loved children and when a family was in need of a nanny for the trip she happily took the job. Not long into the trip she found an abandoned newborn on the ship and took over its care while everyone searched for the mother. The three sisters took turns helping with the baby and named it Grace after a mother was not found. Nora and the sisters were headed to Faith Glen mass, in hopes of locating a home they had inherited. Cameron Long was sheriff of Faith Glen and he helped the three sisters to find the home and to get settled in. The place had an elderly couple there as caretakers but it was in bad need of repair. Nora Maeve and Bridget had lost their home in Ireland so they knew how this couple must be fearing they would have to move also. They let them know that was not the case. This had been their home and would remain so . We can all live very well here together. Cam had an abusive alchoholic father and had closed himself off from relationships thinking he did not want to be like his father. When he meets Nora He does not know how to stay unaffected by her sweet nature and loving ways. Even Baby Grace grabs his finger and his heart before he has known her long at all. Nora takes a job working at the sheriff's office and they are thrown together often, friction between them mounts I know you will want to read this last book and find out how Nora and Cam come to terms with finding "Love" in the midst of adventure in Faith Glen when there is a horse thief and kidnapper loose in the area.
although there were three authors this series and the stories of the sisters was well correlated. Thanks for a great story Cheryl-Renee&Winnie....
Very good book. Nora is settled in Faith Glen, taking care of Grace and working for the sheriff. She has told herself that she will be happy as she is - she will not risk her heart again after having it broken back in Ireland. Cam refuses to think of a family for himself after things that happened as a youth make him feel he is not able to take that risk. Nora starts a bakery business for herself as a way to supplement her income. She also finds herself spending more time with Cam. After learning of his past, she feels she must convince him that he has a lot to give. Cam also finds himself attracted to Nora, though he is often frustrated by her nearly obsessive independence. I really liked the way they worked together, and how much they understood one another, even though it made them nervous to be known that well. The horse thief from book two makes another appearance, with two surprises about her identity. One of them I suspected, the other was a complete surprise. I loved the conclusion and the epilogue.
Griggs is one of my favorite LI authors. This one did not disappoint. I liked that Grace (the "baby between them") was not the focus of the story. Too many of these types of books use babies/children as a clutch, where the woman falls in love with the man's children, and then realizes she loves the man, or vice versa, or raising a child brings the man and woman together. Griggs uses Grace to help bond Cam and Nora, but Grace is not their only nor their primary bond.
I read Bridget's story but not Maeve's. It was a little hard to keep up with all the minor characters in Bridge's story so I imagine a reader would have the same trouble here. It seems that all of the story arcs started in one of the first two books were resolved here, so those who enjoyed the first two books will enjoy the resolutions (even if predictable).
Some books strike a chord because of your own life. With Irish ancestry and two younger sisters, I was naturally attracted to the Irish Brides Love Inspired Historical trilogy about three sisters who make a new start in America. But it was the writing trio of Cheryl St. John, Renee Ryan and Winnie Griggs that really caught my attention.
In “A Baby Between Them,” Winnie Griggs wraps up the adventures of the Murphy sisters with the tale of Nora, the oldest sister responsible for an abandoned infant. Her relationship with the local sheriff Cameron Long is beset by obstacles of all kinds, traumas from the past, responsibilities of the present, and fears for the future. The author’s emotional style weaves a story as inspirational as it is romantic. I kept turning the pages as fast as I could and was sorry to see this series end. But it could not have ended on a better note.
I won this book as a goodreads giveaway and I enjoyed it very much. It is a Christian historical romance, and it was wonderful to read such a positive, uplifting story. The plot was definitely predictable, after all, we read romance because the heroine always gets her true love. What set this book apart for me was its wholesome tone and the caring of the characters for everyone, no matter how flawed. For light summer reading, I recommend this book.
I liked this book. It was predictable, but clean, and easy to read. It's worth reading, but not super exciting. This is the 3rd in a series, but written by different authors. From the book: Nora Murphy has cared for the abandoned infant she found on their Boston-bound ship. Settled now in Faith Glen, Nora tells herself she's happy. She has little Grace, and a good job as housekeeper to Sheriff Cameron Long. She doesn't need anything more-not the big family she always wanted, or Cam's love.
I enjoyed reading this book. A spunky heroine, a dreamy hero and the most adorable baby ever are among the characters of this one. As always Winnie Griggs has given us a solid story with just the right combination of problems, a hint of ages old mystery and that oh-so-satisfying happily ever after ending.
Finding a newborn baby on their boat from Ireland, Nora takes it as her own. Her new town sheriff Cameron Long is very skiddish around children harboring a tragedy in his young life. Can she with God's help minister to Cam as well as share her love?
There was a part that tugged at my heart and got me a little heart-eyed.
"Then Nora's expression softened into a smile. "Isn't it a wonderous thing how, twenty-six years ago, the Almighty was already laying the groundwork so that me and my sisters would be taken care of in our time of need."
This is a heartwarming story, very engaging characters and a nice progression of the romance. I really enjoyed reading about Sheriff Cameron Long and Nora Murphy because they start out as friends and slowly come to care more deeply for each other. Very nicely done!
Nora's story was very good. I liked her character, but thought it took forever for her and Cameron to fall in love! Or at least it took forever for them to realize it. :) I enjoyed their story, and getting updates of the other sisters as well. It was a nice epilogue at the end.
I didn't read the first two books in the series, I might at some point, but I'm not going in search of them. I liked this book, didn't love it, I couldn't connect with anyone except the occasional understanding of where Nora or Sheriff Long were concerned
A fitting conclusion to this trilogy--I enjoyed this one as well. All three are enjoyable reads, and are sweet reminders of the goodness of God and the graciousness of His love and forgiveness.
Book Three in the Irish Brides series by three different authors. This is another awesome story in the series and the story of Nora the oldest sister and Grace that baby she found abandoned on the ship, and Cam, the sheriff of Faith Glenn, MA where the sisters now live. Nora takes a job to clean and cook for the sheriff and his deputies and prisoners and the sheriff and deputy’s homes behind the jail. While she is working for Cam she keeps Grace with her and he is leery of the baby because of is dark past, but he is slowly falling for Nora. Cam helps out at the sister’s cottage where Nora is the only one left not married. When there, he still steers clear of the baby until Nora catches on to him and occasionally leaves Grace with him while she has to go do something either at the jail or her cottage and he is still afraid he is going to do something to hurt the baby. This on has a lot going one including the kidnapping of Grace. This brings a lot of things into light from Cam’s past and Nora’s. It also is one of mystery, and mayhem. This is another great built story and another of faith and inspiration and forgiveness of one’s self. Redemption people can find to remove their pasts from former problems and hurts and great reflection, and of course love at last for two very lonely people. I loved this book as much as the first and second in the series. All three authors write as if you are right in the story instead of just reading them. All three pull you right in from the beginning and all three are had to put down. I highly recommend this story as I did the other two. But you have to read them in order to really get the whole story of all the Murphy sisters. Get this one as well as Book and two.
Sheriff Cameron (Cam) Long: broken, yet so caring for everyone in his town.
I enjoyed watching the attraction develop between them. The mysteries were obvious, but I was fine with that as I like the faith-filled nature. It was a very emotional story in a tender sort of way. I also liked the older couples; one a budding romance and another a lifetime of love in marriage. 💞 4☆☆☆☆ I purchased this book from Thriftbooks.com. All opinions are mine alone without expectation or compensation.
IRISH BRIDES SERIES: (3 sisters) 1. The Wedding Journey (Maeve's story) by Cheryl St. John 2. Mistaken Bride (Bridget's story) by Renee Ryan 3. A Baby Between Them (Nora's story) by Winnie Griggs 🤱🏻
This is the third book in a continuity series, meaning each of the other two were written by other authors. This wonderful story finishes the trials and life altering decisions made by three Irish gals as they leave for Boston aboard a ship. Upon the death of their Pa, they no longer had a home, income or family who could come to their aid. Many events changed all their lives as they found jobs on the ship; and, traveled to Faith Glen to follow a dream. I loved the series and especially the care the girls all gave to the newborn infant found abandon on the ship. All their lives changed and for the better. I smiled and tears fell throughout this book. Thanks for a great finish.
I really enjoyed this Love Inspired Historical Romance. I bought this clean story at Wal-Mart and I voluntarily chose to review it. I've given this a 5 * rating and I am continued to be amazed at what our ansestiers went through. The sheer happiness over a baby buggy had me laughing to myself. Anyway, there are a lots of feels in this story, and plenty of action along the way. It was hard to put down, but hubby gets a little cranky if I don't feed him sometimes. It had a nice ending that left me smiling.
3 Irish Christian sisters arrive in America during the potato famine in Ireland and after their parents die to receive a mystery house as an inheritance. The third, Nora, has taken over care of a baby who was abandoned on board the ship that they arrived on. Nora looks for a job and finds one as a housekeeper for the sheriff along with keeping the jail clean. "Cam" is coming off a childhood memory that has convinced him he cannot marry and he would never be a good father. Young Irish lass and interaction with a newborn change all that. And you guessed it, they fall in love.
This is the third book in a continuation. Each book was written by a different author; all of them collaborated on the main points of this wonderful series as they completed their part. The story shows the importance of forgiveness and second chances as well as the trouble that can be caused by blaming ourselves for mistakes and obsessing about them. I enjoyed this book very much, and Nora’s faith and compassion are impressive.
I recommend this book! What a joy and wonderful storyteller. I truly enjoyed this story. So many ups and down, but loved the scriptures included and strong Christian teachings. Thank you Winnie. ❤️📖📖❤️
