Welcome to the Puppy Place! This Little Apple series stars a lovable new puppy in every book. And it's Charles and Lizzie Peterson's job to find every puppy the perfect home.
Charles and Lizzie Peterson love puppies. They have a puppy of their own named Buddy, but they also foster dogs that need help finding new homes.
Charles and Lizzie are visiting their cousins in the country when a young border collie is abandoned at their feet. Flash loves to run and chase, so Charles and Lizzie know not just any home will work for this puppy. Can they find a forever home that's just right for Flash?
This one was less interesting than the others. There is an element of mystery but it was not well done. The solution was very disappointing. I mean, none of the information has been shared in the series EVER. I think if there were a twin house on the street, it would have been mentioned before while on a walk, or a friend going to the wrong house.
Here are this issues/talking points for your kids if you let them read this: 1. In the first few chapters Charles and his cousin repeated call their older sisters “bossy”. I am trying to encourage my children to not call people names. This doesn’t help... they will see it as ok to call others names.
2. Chapter 3- charles and his cousin, Becky, sneak into the house to get food for the be found puppy. Charles is suppose to distract the moms while his cousin was getting the food. Becky accidentally makes a noise and when her mom says, “What’s that nose?” Charles states that it’s just Becky getting something to eat. Then the author tries to cover up the lie by saying, “He wasn’t lying. Becky was getting something to eat. It just wasn’t for herself—but he just left that part out.” I’m sorry, but this is where books convince you that deceit and sneaking around are ok. Then a page later, he does lie when his aunt asks him why he was asking questions about a man
3. Chapter 4– more lying. When Charles sister Lizzie asks why they were in such a hurry, Charles tells her that there is no reason and that they were just going for a walk... then he name calls again, calling her, “Nosy Lizzy.”
I didn’t finish reading this book because I can’t handle it teaching my kids this.
This is my first time reading a PUPPY PLACE title. It wasn't a classic read, but it was good. The book is only 84 pages so is a quick read for new and reluctant readers. Most kids like dogs and will relate to Charles and Lizzie's family who rescue dogs and find them perfect homes. This time a couple drop of a dog they obviously love and leave it. The brother and sister try to solve the mystery at the same time that they are growing fond of the new border collie puppy named Flash.
I really like how the kids bond with the dogs...even Stephanie who is a city girl that likes going to the mall, forgoes a shopping trip to spend more time with the dogs at an agility test site.
I also like how the books tells facts about the bred featured (border collie) especially that it is a work dog and likes to stay busy, even when just playing. It also mentions the movie Babe that featured this type of dog (which happens to be one of my favorite movies).
The book also has the voice of the dogs in certain places throughout the story, and it seems like the actual voice of the dogs.
Charles and his older sister, Lizzie, are in elementary school. They recently got a dog named Buddy and still foster dogs and help them find a home.
Charles and Lizzie are visiting their cousins in the country when a car pulls up, drops off a puppy named Flash and then takes off. While they are trying to figure out who abandoned the puppy, they discover that Flash has lots of energy and an aptitude for agility training so start training him along with their own dog and their neighbour's dogs. Happily they find the right home for Flash in the end.
Though this book is a quick read and directed at elementary-aged children, I found it entertaining. There is a learning experience and a puppy tip at the end. It is written in third person perspective and first person from the dogs' points of view. It is the sixth in the Puppy Place series, which currently has 64 books in the series.
Aww! Such a heart-warming story. It is a bit confusing how in all of their family nobody doesn't like dogs in real life quite a few people dislike dogs even hate. It is also annoying how Charles doesn't want his " bossy big sister to help" because sometimes big sisters know the right thing to do. But overall I give this book a big thumbs up it is soooo cute! Especially when Flash finds his forever home.
Interesting Book Love the way they are adopting dogs and giving them a home and the adventures they have and giving advice on raising puppies A wonderful book series
This book is about two kids and two cousens who were playing outside when a laidie with a blanket comes and starts talking and explaining about Flash. So,the kids hide him from there strict parents. The parents find out when the dog goes wild chasing the kids.So they try to find Flash a home and they find him one that he could call it a home. This is a wonderful book for all ages. The genre is realistic fiction because this could really happen. The part I really want to remember is when all the puppies were doing a agility contest.I ask myself why did Flash's owner gave him away?I have schema with this book because I care about dogs as much as Lizzie and Charles does.
I love the concept for the Puppy Place series of early reader books - a brother and sister foster puppies and try to find dogs the perfect forever homes. It teaches kids responsible pet ownership with a sweet plot. The perspective of canine characters is shown in italics, cute touch.
In this installation, Flash is a border collie pup who needs space to run! Oh, how he loves herding the kids. My only concern was the amount of exposition, and lots of names to remember. But again, love what Miles and Scholastic are doing to educate and entertain kids about dogs!
This is a cute beginning chapter book series that is relatively new. Each book focus’ on one puppy that needs a new forever home. This book is about Flash a border collie who is abandoned at Charles’ cousins house in the country. They have quite an adventure trying to find out who left him and a good home for him.
Flash, by Ellen Miles is about a family who loves dogs. They are given a dog by mistake on Thanksgiving and are now responsible for it. They all go through tough times making decisions for the puppy, to give him a good life. Overall, I thought the book was quite interesting about how they give care and love to the dog. I recommend this book to people who live cute adorable puppies and animals .
Review from B., age 9. I thought this book was great and really fun because it was about dogs and because of how the mystery went. One thing I didn't like was that it was hard for me to remember the people's names.
my favorite part was when everyone found where flashs actual home was. the worst part was when murray and dot dropped off flash at the wrong house. my favorite character was lizzie. there was no worst character. auryn 11 years old, 2014
