The creation of this tenth anniversary 'SECOND EDITION' of Astral Dynamics has been a true labor of love. My continuing exploration of life and Out-of- Body Experience (OBE) has significantly improved my understanding of the greater reality. The idea for this tenth anniversary edition came from my editor, Frank DeMarco, between shrimp and salad, as we dined at a quaint little restaurant in Virginia Beach in early 2009. The idea stuck and soon became official. This new edition bears little resemblance to the original. It is more concise, with so much new content that it can be considered to be a completely new book. The energy work and training sections have been completely replaced. New ideas, methods, and OBE experiences are included. The illustrations and artwork have been upgraded to higher quality in full color. Of particular importance, new ideas and ways of working with your higher self are included. These utilize the manifestation process for the development and practice of OBE. Your higher self holds all the keys relating to OBE and psychic abilities. It is wise to work with this dynamic force, rather than against it. Aligning with your higher self solves many OBE-related problems and greatly improves results. This also eases many of the natural fears associated with OBE. Robert Bruce.
About the Author:
Robert Bruce is the author of six groundbreaking books exploring such mysteries as the human energy body, the out-of-body experience, kundalini, mind's-eye vision, spiritual and psychic development, metaphysics, psychic security, spirits of nature, and manifestation. He is a true spiritual pioneer, dedicated to exploring the dynamics of all things spiritual and paranormal, and testing the boundaries of the greater reality.
Robert began experiencing OBE at the age of four and raised his kundalini in his early thirties. He describes his life before kundalini as a series of educational awakening events, leading to his spiritual rebirth in the Australian wilderness. His experiential approach to life has resulted in profound contact with his higher self that continues to grow.
Robert Bruce currently resides in Australia. He lectures internationally and conducts interactive online workshops, teaching energy work, astral projection, clairvoyance, and spiritual and psychic development.
When not writing or lecturing, Robert is often found diving enchanted coral reefs, seeking new guests for his saltwater aquarium, or exploring wild and lonely places in the Australian outback.
Robert Bruce is an English-born mystic author living in Perth, Australia. Bruce is best known for his studies of Out Of Body Experience, which first became public in the early 1990s through his activity in the alt.out-of-body Internet news group. Over time, he collected and peer-tested his findings in an evolving set of articles, A Treatise on Astral Projection, which he later expanded upon substantially to form his first book, Astral Dynamics, which has sold over 50,000 copies as of 2008.
In 2008, Robert Bruce was listed as one of the world’s foremost OBE experts by EnlightenmentNext magazine.
Bruce's book on out-of-body experience is the best I've read over the years, and I've read quite a few. All of my out-of-body experiences were not under my control; I had many in childhood and one big one in my late teens. The world has never seemed quite the same; or rather, I feel like I've been let in on a big mystery. For most people, being conscious is an embodied experience. When you're out of the body, however, you see yourself as a coherent, plasma-like field and can go through walls, doors, etc., and the materialist explanation of things seems reductive and diminishing. OBEs are much more fascinating than dreaming and Bruce has some fascinating things to say about OBEs.
For example, I love his explanation of imaginative overlays--that persistent problem of OBE testimony regarding the real world being subject to errors, to object appearing where they're not supposed to be, and so on. As it turns out, once out of the body you can have 360 degree vision, because you're not face-forward, as when embodied. (There's no such thing as front and back, unless you believe it or comfort yourself with an astral form. But how do you orient yourself, say, when you go through a door into the kitchen? Is the sink to the left of you or to the right? If you first thought it was to the left, but flip into spherical sight and then back, but facing the other way around, then you might just imaginatively recreate the sink to your left, to reorient yourself, even though it's actually now to your right. And if you create an imaginary door and then walk through it, you pop out of the realtime zone into the astral dimension and it just gets wilder and wilder from there.
The real benefit of Bruce's book is that he has well thought-out energetic techniques and relaxation exercises for learning to leave your body at will. Now, if I just had time to apply the techniques--and get over my fears....
Quote by Bruce: "It is my considered opinion that when you have an OBE, a dream or a lucid dream, you are not actually moving outside the boundaries of your own mind, because your mind has no boundaries or limits (apart from your own beliefs)."
FYI about this review: I'm an experienced lucid dreamer who had hundreds of lucid dreams, hundreds of false awakenings, sleep paralysis and dozens of OBE's. So this review is based on how much I recognize things from my own experiences. There is a big difference between lucid dreaming and OBE's and this book is one of the few out there which explains it in much detail.
I read this book again 9 years later and I still believe it's the best book about OBE's out there. This is the only (!!) book which explains the mind-split effect, experiences I had in which I was observing space from 2 locations at the same time. For years I searched in books and online, no answer was given... besides this book. The same goes for astral wind, the magnetic pull, blurry vision and more errors you may find during your experiences.
As far as critique goes: This book is so detailed, it can probably feel like he's dragging you along from time to time, I know I had this feeling with the chapters about energy work and chakra's, especially because I already know this stuff. His techniques are very detailed and might be repeated from time to time. Sometimes he writes things as if they are the norm for everyone. Like afternoon OBE's, I never had them and so far I simply can't no matter how hard I try - while in his opinion those are the easiest to achieve. He describes places and things as if these are collective creations which really exist for everyone, but besides a few I never experienced those. Do they really exist? I'm not able to tell you.
But I deeply respect the fact he decided to share his own experiences and put them in a 'manual', even if you won't get to see what he's seen, the information is here and you can use it to navigate if you ever find yourself in those places. And you will, if you truly believe these are collective levels.
Even with the critique, I'm changing my 4 star rating to a 5, after all those years and many resources later this book is still the best and most detailed book out there.
I’ve initially read this years ago, but only from the chapter “Astral Wildlife” onwards as I was only interested in phenomenons.
Now years later, I reread the entire book and this time, I felt that the earlier chapters held great insights into how one can achieve an OBE. The methods explained were very feasible and simply broken down into layman terms. The theories behind the methods were soundly put, and made a lot of sense. Take for example when Robert explained how mind split could be done, he also explained how this was made possible. The reasonings were well thought out and logical, and seemed to be solidly backed with a lot of his experiences.
One thing I notice though that it can get very theoretical and for readers like me with low attention span, it becomes very tempting to skip paragraphs and chapters altogether. (Probably also the reason why I skipped the first half of the book when I was younger 😝)
Some paragraphs I also find repetitive and becomes a chore to read on.
Personally, I would have loved to read more about what populates the astral planes. It would have been nice to have a seasoned projector create some sort of an encyclopaedia/ glossary of the beings to be encountered there. Would have also loved to read more of his personal encounters with astral beings. The one with that old monk was very entertaining.
I was also very much interested in the Akashic records, and I thought the explanation behind the astral wind/ Akashic pulse and the whole karmic thing was brilliant and sensible.
All in all, this was a really neat book with good coverage on techniques. I’d recommend this to any serious wannabe projectors but for entertainment value more towards the lower side. See this as abit like a textbook
A pretty good read, I was more than surprised. If I had anything critical to add it would be that some of his subjective experiences have been portrayed as the norm, and they might very well be the norm but we have no way of knowing until some well administered, documented and accepted experiments have been performed. It was very refreshing to read about things I was unable to explain that I had experienced as more common than I once believed.
His language was well thought out for such an abnormal subject matter. Most of the things he names have already been named before and he does a good job of using his lucid nomenclature consistently. This book would be equally engaging for a beginner and adept.
A brilliant easy to understand guide for astral travel/OBE. It lifts the lid on a topic that has intrigued thousands. For me this is a very useful reference book. For anyone who would like to expand their ability to lucidly have OBE/astral travel then this book will provide an exceptional framework in which to operate and "launch" from.
An outstanding introduction to a world accessible by all, easily explained & using western words to describe complex Eastern terms, this book is essential reading for those interested in this area. A landmark piece of work.
"The compilation of information tihat Robert provides on energy work, mastering astral projection and practicing psychic self-defense can enhance any earthly spiritual journey. This book is packed solid with information about spiritual journey's outside of the body and a vast array of spiritual experiences that focus on understanding and working with energy and the spiritual realms." ~Dulcinea Contreras
I’ve picked this book for two reasons 1. The topic of astral projection is intriguing 2. I had a curiosity towards reading the Arabic translation
The author summarized the key concepts and techniques needed for astral projection.
The topic is indeed interesting, and was summarized well. My only critique is that it lacked scientific or evidence-based support, which maybe the case when discussing a topic such as astral projection.
Have not achieved conscious exit yet, but I really like this guy's approach. Focusing on physical sensation instead of visualization has been, uh, illuminating. A great place to start if you are interested any kind of energy work/development, and a great place to start if you struggle with visualization. I am a SUPER visual person, that's never been an issue for me, but still, I think I have learned a lot by approaching this work from a non-visual angle.
I am in the process of writing up a review/commentary of all my thoughts and questions refering to this book, so I will add it here as soon as it's finished!
Robert Bruce does a great job bringing these timeless concepts of astral projection and lucid dreaming into modern scientific language. He outlines his vast experience in the field, that experience being a lot of practice in traveling the astral world and studying it like a scientist. It somewhat reminded me of the work of early theosophists who put these concepts into science; however, those works are over 100 years old so the language is dated. Bruce's language is very modern and up to date.
In addition to several summarizations of his experiences and some in depth work in trying to categorize, classify, and bring the mysteries of the astral world into modern consciousness, he also presents several techniques to get into the astral plane.
Also, he discusses the nuances between being in the astral plane experiencing the physical reality versus traveling in a projection only loosely based on physical reality. For example, traveling in the physical world using your astral body, it is possible to validate/verify this by doing things such as reading playing cards or things that actually exist in the physical world, then checking back when awake. Wheras in a projection, it's not the real world, but a simulation likely created by your own mind
Overall, while there are some more practical books for learning techniques (such as The Phase), Bruce's personal experiences are quite fascinating and i love the way he gets into the nitty gritty of the science (to the best of his ability, considering that it's almost impossible to prove non-physical science in the physical world). His insights are enjoyable and relevant for anyone stuyding the phenomenon. I think he'd also be a cool person to meet!
This was a very strange read as there were many contradictions in the first 3rd of the book. The author talks much about his methods and how he has only found them from personal experience and not look into any of the methods out there. Then shortly after compares his methods to whats out there. He does this throughout the book. It's these stretching of truths that made me doubt his work. Then it came to techniques on leaving the body. Instead of introducing many different techniques, the author takes pages up on pages of showing different imaginations of the same technique. But all in all admits all the waffle and stretched speculation being stated as truth, there is some information to be found in this book.
This is an incredible book and the only book Ive read that has helped me achieve conscious OOB experiences. Robert's explanations of the techniques and his interpretation of the way it works are very easy to follow and don't come across as mumbo-jumbo despite a general sceptical view of the overall topic. I was blown away by my experiences of OOB feeling more real than the waking world and once I got over the fear and the noise of the stages preceding OOB I found that it was easier to transition. It's given me a different perspective entirely,
I see this as a textbook to practical OOB. If your curious and sceptical then give it a go. You might be surprised.
So I read the second edition of the same book which came out around a decade later and changes were made.
Just from an editing standpoint this book is really well made. It is concise and simple. No doubt having so much time between editions really helped.
As to the material, Robert Bruce puts forward many interesting ideas about astral projection, lucid dreaming, remote viewing, etc.
As to whether or not the techniques work, I do not know, they are common enough to astral projection. Though I must say, from the people who I have heard who have the ability, they never did any practice, it simply occurred.
I read this after reading William Buhlman's book Adventures Beyond The Body. Buhlman's book is a better how-to guide but Astral Dynamics explores energetic aspects of astral projection left out of Buhlman's book. I also bought the 90-day Mastering Astral Projection book and did not like it much. Overall this book is OK but gets too tied up in energy work and ignores the fact that astral projection/out of body experiences do not require intense energy work.
As for reading this book, I sometimes had to 'force' myself trough it. I follow some of the other reviews in that he is a little arrogant at times and the book gets quite repetitive (True, they're exercises, but I would have done it different). Then why four stars? The information he gives works for me. Haven't got to an actual exit yet, but the energy movements more than convince me of the possibility. If you are serious about projecting I would suggest you give this one a chance!
I was looking for a book on reality shifting, and my friend gave me this. I did learn a few things that works with shifting as well, but this book wasn't quite what I was looking for. But to those who are looking for a book on OBE, this is it I think. It is an amazing and easy-to-understand book on the topic, very informational, and with stories from the author and others about their experiences. If OBE is what you're looking for, this is like a bible, I think.
Easily the most relatable, believable and accurate according to the experiences that I've been having my whole life. It's the first book on the subject that I have ever read (and I've read every single one that I could ever get my hands on since I was 12 or so} that actually explains the exact experiences that I've been through and then goes on to explain how and why they happen. I guess I'm kind of say I loved it! I guess I'm kind of say I loved it!
Astral Dynamics is an unparalleled resource for understanding the intricacies involved with higher levels of consciousness. There are important insights in this book that I've not found anywhere else. IMHO, this should be required reading for any serious student.
I have actualy had OBE for a long time. That is the reason why i read this book. Many things i knew and because of that the book became a little bit long. But many things became clear as I finished reading the book. I recomend ti go through the book.
wasn’t exactly what I what looking for. It explained all the sciency crap about it which I thought it was interesting and I could use that information in my writing.
