I wanted to punch myself in the face after I read this book. I didn't, but I thought about it. After I finished Fitting In I told myself that I wouldn't read any more of her books because honestly at that point I was really seeing a pattern in her writing start to develop.
There weren't any were foxes in this, but I swear that Robin Roseau only knows how to write two characters. She might change the small details such as their hobbies, family or their jobs, but ultimately the personalities of her leads always seem to be that of Michaela and Lara. It comes out in the way they speak, their actions and their interactions.
Robin does approach the BDSM topic with some care and I can tell she did do her research. There were a few interesting scenes in the book. Oddly enough the book is not very erotic. I would describe the bdsm scenes as being almost technical.
My problems are many though and mostly have to do with the main characters. Bethany describes herself as fat with saggy breasts...hot right? Now I am all for different body types in books and maybe that is what Robin was going for here, but she still gave her red hair. So lets just call Bethany by her real name: Older Michaela With A Few Extra Pounds. Anyways Michae...I mean Bethany is from the Carolina's and often referred to as a southern belle by our other lead. She doesn't have any experience in bdsm at all until she receives an invitation to an exclusive party in California while there for a job interview.
The company she works for is being taken over and her entire workforce has been flown to California to interview for job. She doesn't think she will get the job because it won't pay enough to let her live there. She does hope her other co-workers get the job though. This whole process wasn't well thought out as Robin describes Bethany as being one of the most important people within the company and the person who made everything run smoothly yet there wouldn't be a position for her somewhere? And if the salary offered wouldn't allow her to live there how would it allow her co-workers to? Maybe Bethany despite being so important only makes half the salary of the other workers? Oh and this character had a very interesting take on the interview process lol. Ugh...okay moving on.
Okay so Bethany meets the beautiful and severe Katrina who is a Domme at the sex part she was invited to. She is instantly captivated as is Katrina. Five minutes later Katrina has Chubby Michaela up on the stage in a contest of wills.
One of my biggest problems is that despite having no experience in BDSM Bethany easily is able to "top" from the bottom. Or maybe Katrina just wasn't that great of a Domme. She failed do a whole lot for me.
Biggest problem is the time table for this romance is something like a week. They meet, have some kinky sex, add a dash of fake drama and boom! Now they are living together. Maybe its less than a week. These two were making commitments and Bethany hadn't even explored her girlfriend's house. I'm not kidding.
Also the big twist at the end? I guessed what that was on maybe page 5...This whole book was filled with fake manufactured drama that just didn't ring true at all. If two people meet and fall in love and want to be together you would think that is the direction they would try to go. Instead Bethany doesn't even try and more or less makes every attempt to go back home because the situation is so very hopeless.
I didn't like it and I hate saying that because I love the d/s theme. Robin has a lot of fans, but I feel that I am going to have to start staying away from her books. I absolutely loved Fox Run and Fox Play, but haven't been very enthusiastic since then.
I'm giving this one 2.5 stars.
