An afternoon finishing up her Christmas shopping should have been fun. Instead it went horribly wrong!
Sebastian had been fighting his feelings for Eve for way to long now. He’s been good, keeping his hands to himself. But when he gets home from a mouth long business trip to find Eve was in the middle of a bank robbery his feelings suddenly cannot be contained.
~Terri Anne Browning~
After waking up in the hospital broken and unable to remember the months leading up to the car accident, Alexis has fought hard to get back on her feet. Moving to California to live with her father was supposed to be a new beginning for her.
But when she walks into her father’s office and comes face to face with Jared Giordano she is forced to face those unknown months leading up to the crash…
It's two different stories in one book. Both of these stories were good. I liked both authors. The only problem I had were the typos and the use of were and where. For some reason, the word Where was used instead of Were. No big deal but it kept tripping me up while I was reading. I had to go back and reread the sentence. lol Other than that both of the love stories were really good. I wish they were a bit longer. The one by Terri Anne Browning was hard to read because the main character was a car accident victim. I am a car accident survivor myself. I was hit by a drunk driver head on. My main injury was in my back and the character Alexis had this problem as well. The way she described her pain and how hard it was to do physical therapy brought me back to that time in my life. I felt very connected with the character. All around good book.
Terri Anne Browning’s book (book 2) of this anthology:
The story of HxhxOW = Jared, Alexis, Nica (Monica)
JARED AND ALEXIS: Insta lust. Insta love. Really lovely and dreamy and romantic. They break up. She takes it really badly, has a sort of mental breakdown, has a car accident and becomes disabled. Moves back home so her family can look after her. Don’t see each other until 7 months later. By sheer coincidence. NOT because he tried to find her.
LOTS and LOTS of stuff happening but (in excerpts) here’s the bottom line:
Him: “These past seven months have been Hell, baby. I haven’t been able to eat, sleep eludes me. If Gabriella had told me that you were hurt I would have been back in a heartbeat.”
“Please tell me you missed me too, Lexis. Tell me that you still feel something, even if it is more hatred than love.”
Her: “I don’t know you.” She told him. “I don’t remember you.”…… “I lost all memory of the months leading up to the accident.”
Him: Maybe this was a way for them to start over. He didn’t have tell her—hurt her with the reasons why she had felt the need to kick him out of her life. (LIAR)
Her: “Why did we break up?” She demanded,
Him: “We had a misunderstanding. I had to go to Rome, my father had been sick… “I was so busy with everything going on over there that I didn’t have time to fix us just then. So I let you have some time to cool off. I thought that when I could get away I would have time to win you back…”
When I tried to call you back you sent me straight to voice mail. All my texts went unanswered… If things had not been so crazy at the time I would have been by your side in a heartbeat.
Her: “And there wasn’t time for you to come home, to explain it all to me in person?
Him: “Things got crazy. My father got sick. Nica (THE OTHER WOMAN) had a miscarriage (not his kid)…” ….. “She was too fragile to be left alone. She needed me.”
Her: ….to him she would always come in second. Nica was his priority. How else could he have stayed by the woman’s side when his own child was being ripped from Alexis’s womb along with all chances of having another child?
"My uterus was torn to shreds. I lost the baby…And all hopes of having another one.”
“So even though I didn’t remember Jared, I knew that there had been a man in my life. And for the first week I waited, and waited. Expecting the father of my child to show up…… …..I knew that he didn’t love me. Because if he did, how could he go a week, two, three without seeing me? How could he stand that distance between us?”
Him: “…..Each day was an agony. I wanted to be with you. Craved to be in your arms, to have you in mine. But I had my father to deal with. He nearly died. And Nica...Nica doesn’t matter though. (LIAR) None of it matters. I should have been with you. Never should have left your side for even a second.”
So they try again and lo and behold the liar-liar-dick-on-fire messes up again:
Him: “It isn’t what it seems, Lexis.”
Her: “You lied to me.”
Him: “I was terrified to tell you the truth. (uh huh: LIAR) I just found you again. I couldn’t chance telling you about Monica.” He cupped her face in hands that shook. “I love you. I wasn’t ready to risk how happy we were over her.”
THE HEROINE She’s literally broken: she can’t walk unaided, has gruelling physical therapy (kudus to the author for this part, it’s so well done, I didn’t realise I’d been gritting my teeth and tearing up right along with her until my jaw started aching and the words seem to swim across the page.) That’s only PART of her brokenness. Mentally and emotionally she’s a wreck as well.
THE HERO: (Many readers who love the “jealous-possessive” hero will love this hero.) Lying dickhead. Assish asshole. Whiny, needy, crying, tearful, emo, jealous, possessive weak, sniffling liar. Liar. Liar. (me--->hero--->boat in the deepest ocean--->nunchucks --->cement shoes)
THE HERO AND THE OTHER WOMAN: Apparently there was never anything romantic between the OW and H. (Cough-cough-bullshit) Yet, for SOME reason he gives up months of being with the heroine to be with the OW so he can help the OW make his brother jealous (tabloid style fake engagement, etc) so that said brother can realise that he and the OW belong together. (All this without a word to the heroine, at a time she needed him the most) OW now married to his brother. Creepy, incestuous bond between him and the OW:
OW: “…he’s my best friend...”
“Jerry! (her nickname for him) How could you cancel on me like that? Aren’t I the love of your life?”
Excerpt: The look on her face was so close to the one that she had had when she spoke to her husband that Alexis was almost taken aback.
Like I said: lots happening. Much more than the above. Then Hxh get married. In future books she falls pregnant despite her shredded womb.

Two different stories in this book. Seemed like a lot of typos and I really couldn't get into the first story. The second story was good but having read other stories by the author, not great.
In this book there are 2 completely separate quick stories, one from each author - they have no individual titles.
Anna Howard - 3.5 stars
Step-sibling romance and the author mentions characters from her other book, Shatter Me (Keith and Kari).
Eve and Sebastian (Bastian) became step-siblings when Eve was 14 years old and Bastian was 25 years old; their parents were truly in love with one another, but tragically Eve's mother had passed on. The familial love between her step-father, Garth, her step-sister, Quinn and her other step-brother, Cameron was very beautiful and sweet to behold.
Eve was just a bit too meek and somewhat lived in her own glamorous world while Bastian was kind of a needy and a bit domineering. I did enjoy the story but they did get on my nerves, for example, the Aria situation and Eve running off to another country she had never been to while holding onto a big secret.
Terri Anne Browning - 3 stars
Amnesia/second chance romance and the author mentions characters from her series, The Rockers.
Not my favorite memory loss story due to the fact that Jared basically manipulates Lexis into falling in love with him again without telling her what happened at the end of their relationship. I really couldn't connect with Lexis because she was too easily manipulated, for example, she doesn't know Jared, he's a total stranger yet she gets in his car and allows him to take her places; ummm excuse you don't know this guy at all. However, once she realizes he may be part of or the reason for her dark past, she still doesn't stop seeing him instead she keeps him a secret from her loved ones yet she is completely wrecked and taken off guard when confronted with the sad truth.
And yes I agree with Lexis that Jared did put everyone before her, he basically had a list of people who needed him before he would try to make time to tell her about his plan with Nica. Then for several months, he doesn't come look for or inquire about the woman who is his everything and when he finally sees her, he's upset with her.
I just couldn't love the couple in this book: Lexis who puts herself in hurtful situations (both physical and emotional) and Jared, a man who says he loves a woman but never put her first in his life.
I think you are supposed to read this story before you read The Rocker series since Gabriella (buttmole) introduces Ember and Nik.
First story, from Anna Howard; it's kind of awful. There are so many gaps in the story, like the idea of pregnant Eve but lack of emotion from Sebastian. It's just, I'm glad that I finished it. Really. Overall good story and I liked it, but the execution's kind of bad. Not to mention hundreds of typo and lines that in desperate need of editing.
Second story, from Terri Anne Browning; to be honest after I finished the first book, I'm looking forward to read story from Terri Anne. My expectations are quite high. But.. Let's just say this story didn't awed me. I don't like Jared. He's awful to Alexis. Even though in the end he begged her to go back to him, he still didn't win me. I still can't get over the idea that she's 'sorry' that she'd never have his kid in the future. I mean, really Alexis? He's the one that should be sorry not you. But overall I liked it. Just not my favorite.
I only read the part of the book that had Alexis and Jared's story since it is part of the series that I have been reading. Overall it was not bad and it gave me a nice background to Alexis and her cousin Gabriella. Now I understand how Jared came to take Alexis's last name as his. It was sweet and it was his way of proving how much he truly loved Alexis. I wish that they would get another book to fill in more blanks about their love story.
I really enjoyed reading this book and managed it in one day. I love Terri Anne's 'Rocker' series and so it was great to get a glimpse at some of the characters from those books and see a different side of Gabriella. I really felt for Alexis and Jared, there was plenty of angst, which I really like in a book and hurdles for them to get over.
I read this whole thing backwards. I've been reading the Rockers series since the beginning and kept hearing about Lexi and Jared but I had never read their story. I'm glad I finally did. :)
Two wonderful stories are in this book. You become so invested in these characters that by the end of the story you are not ready to let them go. Very fun read.
