Jacinta is struggling with all of the changes going on inside her. Just as confusing is her relationship with the men who were chosen to protect her. Anchors, wormholes, and new designations aside, it's time for her to focus on herself. If only the universe would allow her the time to do so.
Her family have not given up on getting her back, the military want to contain or neutralise her, and the changing dynamics amongst her closest supporters are throwing them all for a loop.
Can they pull themselves together in time to face the greatest threat of them all? Or will their inner turmoil leave the Earth open to an attack from the most unexpected source?
This is a "why choose" romance with adult themes, unuitable for readers under the age of 18 years.
Hi! I'm "Jade" (pen name only). I'm a stay at home mother to three gorgeous young children. I've been writing stories since I was a little girl, but I have never had the confidence to share them. Finally a friend talked me into publishing something, so, "Siren" was born.
I ask you to be kind in your reviews. I know that you may not like what I write, but it doesn't mean that you have to be nasty about it. I don't understand people who feel the need to do that. My books cost less than a cup of coffee. If you didn't like the coffee, would you abuse the person who served you?
Where do I start. Jade Thorn's books just keep getting better! I find myself so invested in the characters and their lives that when I finish reading the book I am left feeling bereft; like I have left my friends behind.
I love that I am left guessing as to how relationships will develop, how the characters abilities will continue to grow and what will happen next.
Jade is a genius when it comes to making her readers feel like they are part of the friendship group and carries them along for the whole of the book.
I cannot wait to read the next book in this series as soon as it is released!!!
"Quasar" is book three (not the final book) in the Portal Connection series and it picks up right where book two ended. I'm happy I did a reread of the first two books before starting this one, because the dynamics between all these characters are fascinating but also pretty complicated at times. The bonds between portals and anchors, sometimes as friends and sometimes as more, become a lot more interwoven with each other in this third book with new anchors being revealed and while I absolutely love it, I was also tempted to start drawing lines between all these characters to keep the links between all of them clear while reading. It reminds me a little of some of Crea Reitan's work where all relationships matter equally, whether they are romantic or not, and I quite like it.
Quasar suffers a bit of "third book syndrome", with solidifying all parts we discovered in the first two books while simultaneously building on it towards a finale in book four. It means that the new discoveries are limited in this third book, and the focus is more on connecting all the dots. I don't think this is a bad thing, it's quite natural for a longer series and it makes me mostly excited to discover book four. I have to admit however I'm not clear how the author will ever manage to write everything I'm still expecting and hoping for in one more book. Unless we can look forward to a massive book like the fifth book in the "Of Magic and Contempt" series.
Lines are being drawn in this book, and I'm excited to find out how good will defeat bad in the next book.
Highly recommend this series to anyone looking for something a bit different
Those who follow me on Goodreads will know that I am somewhat obsessed with this series - I've read book 1, Stellar, 7 times since it was released - and this installment does not disappoint. Jade writes the quietly strong fmc incredibly well - Jacinta doesn't kick a*ses, rather she has inner strength but is outwardly vulnerable - and the adaptation of the outwardly strong male characters to her is beautifully done. The slow-burn romances begin to really heat up, and several of the burgeoning relationships make progress. Plot-wise, a new threat is introduced, an old threat keeps popping up, an unlikely ally makes themselves known, and a new victim comes in at the the end, all of which ratchets up the tension just enough to make for an impatient wait for book 4.
Highly, highly recommend this series to anyone looking for something a bit different in the #whychoose genre, this is sci-fi romance, but with elements of military, contemporary, dystopian, and fantasy.
This is book 3 of this series and boy oh boy did Ms Jade not disappoint! Jacinta picks up where book 2 left off- still recovering from her injuries and her last portal experience where she “accidentally” brought back Astron from his planet Skarra. This is a book about learning together as a team ~ portals and anchors; friends and lovers; aliens and humans; civilians and military personnel; and how each of these connections plays an important role even if it’s ever so small. Astron has much to teach them and with others with their own personal/professional agendas on the line, theres not always safe space to do so. If you enjoy sci-fi then this is definitely a series for you! This book does end on a slight cliff-hanger but not one that makes you feel that the book is rushed or incomplete- just leaves you wanting the next book which if I know this author will be a doozy!!
another amazing story from Jade! the uniqueness of this series gets me every time and i love the direction book 3 went. Jacinta’s guys are amazing and i love the exploration of the bonds and friendships between all the characters. i can’t wait to learn more about Skarra and the science in general! bring on book 4
What I often appreciate so much about this series is that the plot is the focal point! These characters are so fascinating as they have grown over the 3 books! The authors writing style reminds me so much of amazing literary artists in similar genres like Auryn Hadley, Kirsten Banet, J Bree! Her ability to keep suspense while slowly revealing plot lines is phenomenal! I love the journey Jacinta goes on as she finds her fierceness that allows her to blossom into someone with their shit together! High recommend this series- Book 3 exceeded every expectation and I’m eagerly awaiting Book 4!!
Kicking off right after the events of book two, we dive back into the life of Jacinta and her men. As expected, with the introduction of new characters and the deepening relationships - Quasar did suffer a little with the middle book syndrome, but not enough to make it unenjoyable. While still quite good, it's getting a bit much to keep track of everyone and everything including all the sci-fi elements. I'm actually really glad that I have read these three books in a few days. If it's been a while since your last read, I recommend reading the first two again to prepare.
That being said, boy is the tension building in Quasar! The plotlines are thickening, new threats are being discovered and the harem is taking shape. Jade is forming a wonderful and unique story, worthy of a place beside some of our why choose queens like J Bree, Auren Hadly and Tate James.
Thank you to Jade Thorn for the opportunity to read this one pre-release in the form of an ARC. Quasar is available now.
For those who’ve been on Jacinta’s journey, Quasar is a wonderful way to reacquaint yourself with an old friend! Grab a cuppa, your favorite snuggler and tuck in to a wonderful adventure!
As has been the case in both Stellar and Supernova, Jacinta’s life has not been nor is it getting any easier! Uncle Rowan and the crazy People movement are still trying to catch her, an alien is bonded to her which is just the cherry on a crap sundae, if you consider everyone lives on a military base and all of her friends, anchors and team-mates are ranking officers in said military. Just another day in her life, LOL!!!
Her circle of protectors grows and changes in this book, and new friends are introduced into her inner circle. Her powers as a portal grow exponentially, as do the strengths of her anchors! Also the list of people trying to use her and her people for their own gain grows too! Break out the baseball rosters, you’re gonna need it to figure out who's on first & which side they play for!
On a more personal note, things between her and Hammer & Leo get much more…personal! Now mix in Bowie, Doc, Tones and Lister, who knows where all these guys are gonna fit in!
This does end on a gentle cliff hanger, and I can’t wait to see where everything goes next! Thanks Jade for another peek into Jacinta’s world, I really can’t wait to be invited back!
I used the metafor of a roller-coaster for the 1st 2 books, Quasar is more like the Scrambler ride! First, you're gliding in one direction, then, "oof," the book shoots you somewhere that you didn't expect. You feel a little jostled, but the thrill is totally worth it! You have our girl, Jacinta, getting closer to her first 2 anchors, bringing in a couple more, and then assisting still more people along the way. We see several new characters come in, some with conflicting agendas. Towards the summit, we have the top brass tipping their hands for us, allowing a peek into yet further machinations which will probably cause grief and harm to those we've come to cherish, along their journey! Cannot wait for Book 4 to arrive!
Author Jade Thorn's world building is masterful and engaging! This series will suck you in like a wormhole and spit you out a bit rearranged, but all the better for the experience.
This book is by far the best out of the three so far. In saying that I did read all three in 2 days.
I found it really hard to put the book down when I stared reading and I felt more connected to the characters and their emotions. I love how Jade sets out the storyline while giving the characters their own spotlight. In the books I usually read I get the POV of two MC’s. Having more than two MC’s can be really challenging to not only keep track of but figure out their role in the storyline and Jade has basically nailed it!
I gave Quasar a 4/5 stars because while it is great book but there were parts that felt a little confusing, that could just be me, I am fairly new to reading third person writing.
I am so excited for the 4th book to come out and see where the group dynamic goes from here!
Just a heads up! You may need an ice bath after this book!
Just when I didn’t think this series could get any better, Jade gives us Quasar!
Oh. My. Goddess.
I’ve been on a dark romance / dark paranormal / dark fantasy path for quite a while now and all I will say is that this entire series has been a breath of absolute fresh air. It’s reminded me of why I love sci-fi so much.
The family that Jade has built in this series is wonderful. They will do everything they can to protect one another. The connections between the Portal and Anchor are very well written, giving off a Sense8 vibe for me (a tv series that I adored).
With a few more twists and turns, a few new threats - both civilian and military - and a potential war coming. It's ramping up and I cannot wait to read the next one.
And Bowie... finally! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 That scene alone was worth 5+ glorious, glorious stars!
This series is so freaking good! The build-up, the tension, the plot, the characters, the world, everything is so addicting and I need more!!!
The spice I was waiting for was so freaking worth it. Omg. But that spicy scene at the end of the book? Oh. My. GOODNESS! That was so hot and intense 🥵
The banter and teasing throughout was so good. I laughed out loud so many times especially with Tones remarks, he definitely knew how to lighten a scene or just to make Jacinta laugh or just to be Tones tbh 🤣
I loved this and I cannot wait for the next book because I definitely need to know what happens next!!!
Jade you have out done yourself with this book. The third installment for the portal connection has certainly gone above and beyond the last two.
In this book you see more Connections happen between the portals and anchors. And holy spirit they certainly connect. The team face more obstacles but also overcome alot that is left hanging in the last book. But in true Jade tradition it ends on a cliff hanger that will make you wonder what next in more than one way.
Definitely a must read from the start of the series, The fourth book can not come fast enough
Where do I begin? This series (so far) is so not my normal idea of a good read. But I am so glad I took a chance on this! I just devoured these books! If life didn’t happen I’d have finished sooner!
The way Jade writes is so captivating and I’m so excited and now impatient for the 4th installment! I’m so invested in the love stories and omg Bowie and doc! I didn’t see that coming from Bowie but boy oh boy - did someone turn up the heat!
If you are on the fence about this genre - please start here! You won’t turn back! As for me - I’m off to find another Jade Thorn book to devour!
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
There are no words to describe this book, from the beginning you are drawn into the characters world immediately, and you stay there, captured by the storyline and your imagination.
The plot is fantastic, the characters are more defined and relationships are explained in detail. The world building is superb, as the two previous ones are, and you feel the full range of emotions while reading this book.
I would highly recommend that this be the next book to buy, you can never go wrong with a book from Jade Thorn.
I really enjoyed this book and it was worth the wait for it to release. I enjoyed the story and this book just kept building on the world that Jade Thorn has already created in the previous books and added more depth to the story. I love the characters in this series and I loved seeing them develop in this book and fell in love with them a bit more as I was reading. This book is a slow burn reverse harem with MM content. I am already looking forward to the release of the next book.
It’s been a long three years since the series originally began. The setting and plot is pretty unique which is why despite the pacing issues I’ve been invested. Unfortunately, it’s like Thorn lost the plot completely. There’s a distinct lack of world building not to mention relationship building outside of Jacinta and Hammer. The characters suddenly acted in manners that didn’t reflect how they’d been written in previous books. The plot had so many loose threads that at some point I stopped understanding the journey. This book could definitely use an editor
Wow, well what can you say. You are a powerful supernova and keep needing anchors to help you. Best part is you are also able to help other Stellaris as well as anchors.
Another why choose, when you can help everyone and they can help you.
Jade has kept me gripped yet again in book 3 and left me wondering what is going to happen in the next book in the series.
Quasar is book 3 in this series and I think is my favourite so far - the story is all coming together, the characters have formed & making their discoveries whilst the spice is ramped right up in this one!! There is a lot going on is this book, leaving the reader with questions unanswered ... Will all come together with the HEA in book 4??
oh my what a word smith! And Hammer is so swoon worthy! Oh the more I read the less I wanted to put it down! Jade’s books are so addictive! One is never enough! Now I have to go reread more of her books! I need more! And can’t wait till the next!
I have really enjoyed this series thus far!!! The theme is original, so I was taken on a ride through all 3 books. Quasar had a lot of action, smut & twists/turns that had me begging for more! I love how each book is just as entertaining as the next (very rare)! Can’t wait for book 4 😍🤞🏽
This book was absolutely incredible, the plot, the characters I can’t wait for the next one and where it takes them. I hope Rowan gets what’s coming to him.
That finished with a bang! Loved the complex relationships that are occurring while the plot just keeps developing ... can't wait to see what happens next.
Dnf 26% So much Hammer gushing over his Kitten, just became too syrupy for me. It's hard to imagine him as a strong soldier given all the mush. Also, the story seemed to really slow down.
