“A complete history of the Sixties remains to be written, but The Party makes a very strong start. It deserves to be read and studied by everyone who wants to understand … the Sixties as they really were, seen through the eyes of an active participant.”—Seven Oaks An engaging and insightful account of the anti-Vietnam War movement, the Civil Rights movement, Students for a Democratic Society, and the Socialist Workers Party, including personal reflections on Malcolm X. Barry Sheppard was a leading member of the Socialist Workers’ Party in the United States. He lives in the San Francisco Bay Area.
This is a thurough look at the socialists workers party during the 60's thru the 80's. I personally worked with the Authors wife for many years at an auto manufacturer in california. The book tells of the struggle and the against all odds work that was done by them. You may not believe in their politics, but Barry Sheppard tells it like he lived it. I like the ideal but find it hard to live the life. Barry's wife has since died,I hope he is able to write volume two without her. She was the only jewel in out union's local, I am sure that she could be president if she were around now. R.I.P.
