Time travelers try to solve a crime before it is committed - 3.5 stars

Three time-traveling "angels" go back to 1978 to a Midwestern town where an independent theme park owner wanted to outdo Disney. The main attraction in Hilburn, Nebraska was the "Time Roller" rollercoaster which was about to have a terrible accident. Hilburn had no hills, just flat pasture with a population of 20,000; everyone knows their neighbor.

Leaving from 2023 or so (the current time) in which cell phones are ubiquitous, it seemed strange (but appropriate) to go to a pay phone to call across town. I felt that the language used was current with far more swearing and meanness that I recall from the 1970s. While I did not recall common availability of single-serve water containers, it is easy to verify that the trend was gaining momentum in 1978,

In opposition to the theme park developer, Alexander Carter, a group of pot-smoking hippies protested the poor ecological practices at the amusement park. As the story develops, the angels find evidence of bribery and corruption in the small town but only tangential suggestions that sabotage is underway.

There is pressure to figure out what, if anything, can be done to stop the destruction of the rollercoaster before it happens, time keeps trying to maintain the already-had-occurred events on track. The angels do both brave and foolish things as Hilburn visitors. Shots fired after a break-in are only one of the ways that time acts to try to maintain the course of history.

I was drawn in by the climax - even knowing that time's paths had already been chosen - in trying to determine who was planning the destruction of the roller coaster.

Time Roller by Andre Gonzalez

Andre Gonzalez never disappoints me. Time Roller is Book 4 in the Arielle Lucila series. I want to meet Arielle. I think she would be an awesome woman to be friends with.

In this story, we travel back to 1978 to a town in Nebraska where five bodies have been found at a theme park. What caused their deaths? Some say it was due to polluted water but what really happened? What secrets are being kept? Will Arielle and her team be able to discover the truth in time?

Mr. Gonzalez writes page-turner, books that you don’t want to put down once you start. His characters come to life off the pages. As a reader you feel you are right there with them, traveling through time, and solving mysteries.

If you have not read any of the Arielle Lucila stories start with Book 1. Once you do that you will be hooked and quickly moving on to the others. Then, like me, you will be eagerly awaiting the next one.

This book was an exciting thrill ride of read that grabbed me by the throat and never let go! With each mission Arielle, Felix and Selena become more efficient working together. I liked that the setting was a small town because it made the story even more personal. I was completely floored by the final reveal! The ending was really heartfelt! I can't wait to read book 5!
