2,5 stars The writing style is weird. And I still can't decide if it bothers me or not. Probably yes, considering I didn't enjoy the book much. It wasn't exactly bad, just not very good.
Talented psychologist Dr Amelia West meets mysteries brooding private investigator Olivia Santos. Two totally opposite people but interest and sparks fly when these two ladies are side by side, investigating a case. I am immersed in the story and I like the two main characters. I have been reading the other books in the series. My only issue with the whole series I've read so far is that sometimes things jump suddenly without a back story which may leave me with unanswered questions; maybe they get resolved in later books. Yes, I'll keep reading!
When extraordinary imagination along with passion, sexual tension, and nefarious egocentric criminality comes together, I find myself discernibly immersed in the story. Plus, this book starts a series entitled "When Hell Meets Heaven". I am hooked! On top of all that, I have a special fondness for true opposites when they generate the spark of more than friendship thereby completely invigorating my day. Would you believe this book takes place somewhere in the United States where an ancient order has rebuilt their cloistered nunnery which has existed since the fourteen hundreds? That delightful bit of eccentricity was simply icing on the cake. Magnificent!
Doctor Amelia West's best clients come from the church, the Catholic church in fact. She is an accomplished psychologist and devoted to the church in ways that stunned more than just me. She also has an amazing dedication to her patients and a tremendous amount of confidence in her capabilities. That may or may not be part of the reason she can be a bit short-tempered at times. Nevertheless, this special attention to the needs of her patients is very possibly a beauty that is not always recognized or appreciated. I suspect she might inadvertently make some associates feel diminished in her presence. Curious!
Olivia Santos is simply glorious and a consummate private detective, too. She has a bit of a checkered past, a present that shouldn't be examined too closely, and a Latin temperament that serves her rather nicely. She is tall, quite beautiful, and with a sultry evocative voice that is remarkably expressive for her work, for her protection, and for those resplendent seductive instances. She is occasionally exasperated and sometimes impressed by Amelia. I believe it will take some time for Olivia and Amelia to mesh. For me, that may be worth the price of admission!
A very gifted, delicate, yet otherworldly nun needs assistance. In addition a society woman with a bit of a temper requires some help from Olivia's detective agency. Amelia and Olivia join forces primarily for the nun, but the society woman is not lost in the shuffle. The author hints that this collaboration is indicative of...when hell meets heaven. What an amazing story with some perfectly enjoyable characters. This opening book for the series is really fine and I recommend it. It is splendid!

I've yet to read a book by JM Dragon that I haven't thoroughly enjoyed. I didn't read the blurb for this book because I have such an appreciation for her work, so I was pleasantly surprised about the characters and plot. It's a combination of mystery, suspense, and a bit of supernatural. I'm excited to read the next book in the series.
Psychologist, Dr Amelia West, is asked by Father Johansson, the priest she has known since childhood, to speak to one of the nuns in a cloistered order, Sister Marie Clarise-Benoite, regarding a private issue. At the same time, Father Johansson asks Private Detective, Olivia Santos, to discreetly assist Amelia in solving a mystery surrounding Sister Marie.
After a rocky beginning, Amelia and Olivia bond together in their quest to find the missing answers. You could say this is heaven meeting hell as the mystery deepens, with no apparent end in sight.
First in a compelling series and it’s off to a flying start. The book is a page turner right from the start through to the end. JM Dragon is a terrific writer. I’ve read all of her books, some of them several times. This is my second time of reading this book. It is the second edition. I can tell everyone here and now that the series is a winner.
I loved the chemistry between Amelia and Olivia. They balance one another out. Their interaction is great. They are backed up with a solid cast of secondary characters to progress the story forward.
There are plenty of twists and turns along the way that kept me on the edge of my seat, right through to the very end.
This book is either free or next to nothing to buy. Don’t miss out on a great series. Once again, Affinity are looking after their readers.
