Born in Fukui, Japan in 1977, Masakazu Ishiguro (Japanese name: 石黒正数) is an award-winning comic artist who made his debut in 2000 with the Afternoon Magazine Four Seasons Award winning short "HERO".
While Ishiguro initially cut his teeth within the science-fiction realm he is possibly best known for his comedies; particularly the Japan Media Arts Award winning And Yet the Town Moves (Shonen Gahosha). Whismical, stylish and often surreal, Ishiguro's works are often put into their own SF genre (slightly fantastical).
Fun to follow the relationships of all sorts of characters in what initially appears to be a typical Japan residential/shopping district. I really like how it gave a vivid life to a wide group of characters living here, interweaving their arcs and lives. Really nice slice-of-life, seeing the characters embrace growing up.
Scrolling through the Crunchyroll manga, this title caught my eye. It looked like it would be a fun slice-of-life, plus it was a compete series with over 130 chapters. And to be honest, it was exactly what I expected. It was cute, funny, and whimsical story about a less-than-incredible maid cafe and its three miss-matched maids. My favourite chapter of this volume has to be seven (Space Adventure Romance) although chapter nine (Equation of Love) is a close second. Hotori is such a lovable dopey character, and very reminiscent of pretty much all slice-of-life protagonists. Her differentiating traits are that she’s obsessed with detective novels and wish to be a detective in the future and in love with her maths teacher (who naturally does not like this). It’s funny at times and a good manga to read when you just want to switch off your brain and read a lighthearted slice-of-life. ⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
