Confusing

The story was very good and is the only reason I read this third installment. After spending the second book watching Freya pass out or take naps ever third paragraph, I had high hopes that Rise of the Seven would take me back to the bigger story. The action was great but I spent a good deal of time trying to understand all of the 'knowing looks' being shared with zero context clues.

This book felt more like a very early draft that was intended to get the main ideas down. It is lacking all of the rich detail that would allow me to be there with the characters.

Rise of the Seven is just as epic, just as bombastic and just as kick ass as you want it to be. Melissa Wright brings the best elements of Frey and Pieces of Eight, while bringing something new and unexpected at every turn. When you think everyone's safe, another danger appears for Frey and her team of Elf Avengers to overcome. With Frey's memories returned, the strength of her past mixed with the humility of her most recent adventures, she is an unstoppable force to be reckoned with. 2012 Review:

At last, Wright’s much anticipated final installment in her Frey trilogy has arrived with a bang. RoTS shines in plentiful, often garish colors, pairing the grit with the gumption of a fully matured kick-butt heroine. One of the things I admired most while reading this was the added depth of Freya’s character. With a return of her memories at last, the character is given several new dimensions that all flow seamlessly together. The pages turn like a well-oiled machine, now that we have come to know the company so well, allowing for even more action. The addition of fey to this world was a delightful surprise and only added to the broad spectrum of the world Wright has created. Magic abounds with intrigue and at the heart of the novel is Chevelle’s unwavering love for Freya and their long history together. And in the end, all loose ends are tied and wrapped in a rocking package that you’ll want to pull apart and read over and again.

I'm actually really surprised so many people have given this book series a good review. I found so many parts of the first 3 books frustrating and annoying as well as the writing style being sloppy which is why I was glad I got the first book free. Unfortunately lol I'm the type of person that once I start a book series I have to see it through to the end to know exactly how things ended. Not impressed with the series at all although I find the concept really interesting. Very little sense is made even tho ....

Frey and Chevelle finally get together together 💕 which I had waited for. Didn't understand at all why he was so cold and nasty to her for so much of their journey. If you truly love someone failed memory or not you don't 1 hold their lack of memory against them and 2 stop having emotional reactions to them. He kept getting ticked off because he was emotional towards someone that wasn't really her .... but it WAS her and why couldn't he love her regardless? Being warm and loving towards her wouldn't have made her have any weird memory faints (which was so annoying to have a heroine that faints over every little thing) and would have just been a new love blossoming for her.
I also hate when she regains her powers I'm not impressed at all with them and she's still crazy weak like 🙄. Just so disappointed in the whole thing.

So, I guess this was a step up from the last book when all you had to look forward to was Freya passing out most of the time. After Freya gets her memory back though they would talk about people and give knowing looks like we were supposed to know who and what they were. This felt like a really rough first draft of a book.

I feel like I have either lost my ability to read a book and retain the story or this book left out so much detail that the story made almost no sense. Redundant scenes made me feel like I had missed something, only to find out it wasn't there. Ugg. I'm done with this series.

The ending of Pieces of Eight (Book #2) felt so rushed, and the opening line of Rise of the Seven echoed my own thoughts as I finished the former... and I was glad that the start of the third book in the saga actually started out well.

My relief was short-lived, and as I dragged myself through the pages of this third installment, I wasn't even sure I'd make it to the end. Some of it was OK, and I wouldn't say it was badly written, I just didn't enjoy it.

There are further books in Melissa Wright's The Frey Saga series, but I don't know if I will bother to read on, if I'm honest. There was so much potential for this saga to be one I fell in love with as I have other fanatsy series, but I just haven't.

This one wasn't bad although we are still having to deal with certain unfamiliar storylines as well as to be introduced to characters that seem to suddenly have names where none existed before. Frey, it seems, has gone from one extreme to another; no power to too much. It looks like the bumbling abilities are still there as well. Just read through the "Banquet" segment to check out her lack of control. Her dealings with the fey and their master seem to also have a previously unfamiliar tone although many writers come up with "never make a bargain with a fairy" for most of the same reasons documented here.

Having made it this far, I guess I'll try to finish this out but I'm guessing we'll simply be switching out one enemy for another. Have to see.

This book was full of action, and the love connection was nice when Frey found out she was bonded. At first, I had trouble picturing the characters in my mind, but then I looked on the Internet for pictures of elves and fairies and other such creatures. That helped me imagine what they all looked like. It was actually hard to put the book down. The transition between this book & the previous one was seamless. Great grammar & spelling.

At this point I'm convinced the author just doesn't know how to write strong female characters. Even with the return of Frey's memories, her character is still constantly doubting herself and current and past decisions. The book itself wasn't bad, though a bit more fighting scenes than I needed. Didn't have enough intrigue with the mysteries at hand. But, tied the series up with a nice bow without over explaining everything

The doubts are gone the Lord of the North is herself. The battles hard, but our heroine was born to lead. Alliances forged, enemies vanquished. Now, Elfreyda, Lord of the North, stands tall in victory, with Chevelle by her side. Well done! Looking forward to the next installment!

Every book gets better

Great storyline, explains more of the sustaining power of Melissa Wright as an author. You definitely need to read these books in the order written. Be assured that convoluted as first, and second books are, the third one explains very nicely.
